What a surprise to find an amazing boutique hotel at a reasonable price. We enjoyed three nights. We were warmly welcomed at the reception desk with the offer of a glass of port. We were treated in our room the first afternoon with a Nata, a delicious typical custard in a pastry crust.

Breakfast is a must! It is an experience you should not miss.

One evening we had friends join us for dinner in the hotel restaurant. We had a “seven moment” tasting menu that was full of wonderful surprises.

If you can, this is a great place to stay in Porto.

Loved our stay in Porto. The staff were so friendly and welcoming we extended for an extra day. Room very clean and comfortable and very good breakfast included. The mini bar is well stocked, replenished daily and Free! The location is great, on a small square with several restaurants and entertainment, and just a very short walk to the train station. So much good information from the staff as to great restaurants and things to see.

Can’t beat the location and we really enjoyed the combination of old and new in our room and a window that opened out over the floor below (not officially a balcony). But the bathroom was tiny with the basin on mobile stand in corner of room. We were room 102. That was manageable but the lighting and power points were impossible to work out!! But all worth it for the location and it is fun area at night...

Spent three nights at this little gem of a hotel located in the middle of the action on Rua des Flores, close to the river but just far enough away from the most hectic part. Wonderful room, great breakfast spread and very helpful staff- highly recommended.

Room tip: Superior room was very spacious and overlooked the square, but great windows kept it quiet

This was the best hotel we stayed at in Portugal. Great base located in the middle of the Old Town and an easy downhill walk from Sao Bento Railway Station. It is also less than a 5 minute downhill walk to the "lively" promenade and river and boat cruises.

We stayed in Room 309 with city views – great for day and night photos. There were 3 separate rooms – a spacious bedroom, separate bathroom, separate toilet and study nook. Pleasingly, there was also plenty of shelf space for toiletries in the bathroom and for 2 pieces of luggage in the bedroom. Sleep quality was good because it was quiet.

The “free” complimentary drinks in the fridge as well as delicious biscuits and chocolate treats were very much appreciated. The Castelbel bath products were good quality. Staff spoke excellent English and went over and above with their excellent customer service. Guests receive 10% discount for one night’s dinner at the restaurant and we took advantage of that discount and would definitely recommend eating there. The breakfast was excellent with good variety, satisfying all tastes.

We could not fault this hotel and would certainly recommend the 1829 Hotel to our family, friends and work colleagues visiting Porto.
