We recently spent two nights at this small hotel on Santa Catarina , very close to the main attractions in Porto. It's at the upper end of the street and the area is run down but we felt safe. We walked to everything we wanted to see , including the waterfront. the staff were very helpful , the breakfast was one of the better ones we had over the two weeks we spent in Portugal, the room was clean and spacious. the parking is a bit tricky but I hear they will park your car for you if you ask. Great value for a city hotel.

Room Tip: we did have a back room which was very quiet. the street facing rooms could be noisy.

The hotel is situated on a main street running down into Porto centre, in a rather run-down area, although near to a metro stop. Despite the surroundings the hotel is welcoming, very clean and with spacious rooms. Our bathroom had a bath with a shower over it. Solid double glazed windows mean quiet rooms. All very comfortable and wi-fi free with code from reception. Laundry service available.
Grey colour scheme in breakfast room was attractive with average continental breakfast and varied cakes.
There is a car park adjacent to the hotel, tight spaces but several free when we stayed in April. Helpful reception staff who provided us with maps and details of metro back to hotel.
Comfortable feel and good value for such a well cared for hotel.

Room Tip: We were lucky to have a large room with double bed and an additional single. Upper rooms further awa...

We stayed for one week in this hotel and had a really nice time , it is in a slightly shabby area but lots of places in Porto are a bit run down and a lot of derelict buildings but the Seculo is clean with great staff and free parking on site , it is only a 10/15 minute walk into the main town centre , the breakfast is very good with a good selection and fresh bread and cakes and great coffee , the rooms are very good and very clean the rooms at the back and very quiet the front rooms suffer from traffic noise .
All in all a very nice hotel and very good value for money we will certainly stay here again when in Porto .

The Seculo offers a friendly welcome from desk staff who also takes time to offer any help and advice that you request. It seems to be a Hostel that has worked hard to the best there is and I would be delighted to find a Hotel in this price range with all is services whenever I travel. Located around 15 minutes walk from the centre of porto (downhill) for the return the girl on the desk advised taking the Metro to Marques which is the station up the hill leaving you with a 5 minute stroll back down the hill to the Hotel. We tried this and with a fare of around 4 euros for a couple I would say e reasonable alternative was the taxi we caught when the pouring rain made and walking an unattractive option which only cost us 4.20 euros, delivered to the door.
The room was clean, comfortable and adequately furnished a flat screen television had a multitude of channels and being Portugal all the English language programmes are in the original language with portuguese subtitles. Free WiFi in the room gave us 10 mbps (wish I could get that at home). Free parking through an arch and behind the building was a bonus but VERY tight and you need to be sure of the width of you vehicle and the first time in staff see you in in and apparently if you are not confident they offer a free valet parking service - nice touch. All this for just 39 euros per night with breakfast was included, our 3 night visit in february was exceptional value for money - Highly recommended.

We spent two nights in this hotel in January 2013. The hotel is located in 20 minutes from the city center on a quiet part of the street. The rooms were clean and warm, breakfast was good and service was excellent. Highly recommended if you want to spend a weekend in Porto.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2012

Seculo is one of those properties that got a (formal) new lease on life following the introduction of the most recent legislation, being reborn as a hotel following a long previous life as a 'pension' :-) Having said that, it is a very decent product with spacious rooms, very friendly staff (everyone from the front office to the night guardian) and a copious buffet breakfast. It is within walking distance of 2 metro station (direct access to the airport) and very close to the centre yet it is not very 'central'. A good choice often offering value for money (check out their rates).
