We stayed at the Quinta (Spring cottage) towards the end of April just as the weather started to get warmer during the day and nights still clear and cool. It was a serene stay - the Quinta is located in a private rural location at the end of long drive flanked on each side by a vineyard. The cottage had a kitchenette / dining room; spacious bedroom with plenty of natural light and large bathroom. In the grounds the Quinta has a very nice swimming pool which our daughter enjoyed. The breakfast was wonderful with homemade jams, fresh bread rolls and orange juice. Overall, it is a wonderful small hotel and in a good location for touring around the Minho.

We loved the experience. Despite the rainy weather, we could walk outdoor (wonderful forest) and enjoy the excellent comfort of the houses. We have spent a wonderful new years' eve with family and friends with a great stone fire place and a great view over the dozens of fireworks in the sorrounding villages.

Room Tip: The lavender house was great for a family with kids.

My family and I had a wonderful time - the setting was beautiful and very tranquil. Fantastic breaksfasts every morning (delicious fresh bread rolls). Excellent service, and well appointed rooms. We greatly enjoyed our stay.

We recently stayed at the Quinta (my husband, myself and our two teenage girls). What a lovely stay! The old manor house and grounds are nestled in a gorgeous setting among the vineyards. We stayed in the Lavender Cottage; a nice blend of old and new and was perfect in that it had 2 bedrooms, a nice bath, small kitchenette and dining/living room.
While this place is a bit off the beaten track, it's an easy drive to Viana do Castelo and the beautiful Minho region of northern Portugal.I would highly recommend it!

Our stay was a perfect part of our European honeymoon, we just wish had had booked for longer in Quinta da Bouca d'Arques. The place is very nicely set up for comfort, relaxation and enjoyment, and the level and quality of attention we received from the owner/manager was outstanding. The beautifully appointed cottage was lovely, a great size with very functional kitchenette. In addition we had a great common-room for breakfast/relaxing.

The pool, gardens, grounds and surrounds are simply beautiful, either for strolling, relaxing or biking. Probably due to the sea-breeze coming up through the hills, but the place was noticeable cooler than some other places nearby that we visited, so even though we were there in the hottest part of the year, we were extremely comfortable.

Thanks to the wonderful staff and management for taking such great care of us, with wonderful breakfasts, use of all the facilities including the mountain bikes, restaurant recommendations, and suggestions for day-trips in the vicinity (we did a lovely day-trip into Spain with ease from this area). We highly recommend Quinta da Bouca d'Arques to anyone wishing to visit the north of Portugal.

Room Tip: We were in one of the 3 first cottages built and we didnt see any of the other accommodation, but we...

We thought nothing could exceed our wonderful experiences in Portugal - until we stayed at this charming place. The service was friendly and discreet, adding to the homely feel of the Quinta. Each room is traditional, tasteful and all too comfortable. The location is perfect for a short escape to the mountains; a family get away at the beach, or indeed quality time at Quinta for rest and relaxation. A 3-day stay feels too short and where we can't recall a single thing that might have been better.

An absolutely superb and memorable place to stay. You stay in and around the family's stunning and historic house and estate. Our room was huge and secluded with a lovely courtyard garden for breakfast (brought to you in the morning).

The owner and his team could not have been more helpful, the swimming pool is lovely and they have an honesty bar with excellent local wines and ports.

We will definitely return and we strongly recommend you visit too!

Please change our classification to 4 stars ! Quinta da Bouca d'Arques is a beautifully restored Manor House in the Minho region of Portugal. The owners of this small chic hotel Ana and Joao have taken the road less travelled in renovating this beautiful house; they have moved away from traditional materials and have used iron, glass and concrete throughout the property creating a modern fresh feel in all of the 7 casas.AccommodationQuinta da Bouca d'Arques has 7 casas, all one-bedroom apart from the two-bedroom Casa da Lavanda. Antique wooden and wrought iron beds are mixed with power showers and contemporary colour palettes. Each casa has its own balcony, living room, outside area and kitchenette and all come with LCD TVs with Satellite, CD & DVD players and WiFi. Two of these luxury cottages have air-conditioning. Breakfast is prepared and left in the fridge and fresh bread is delivered every day to the room. This ensures that guests can enjoy breakfast at their leisure wherever they like.ActivitiesIn a corner of this small hotel there is a charming small wooden house where children can play. Beaches are just 15 minutes away by car and are just as good as the beaches in the South of Portugal. The swimming pool is in the garden and is treated with salt rather than chlorine. Mountain bikes are supplied to guests and there are 3 great golf courses within 30 minutes of Quinta da Bouca d'Arques. For those who wish to be pampered, take a relaxing massage. ... more   less
