It is a perfect destination for a weekend away from the city. Very peaceful, pleasing and delighting. You cannot miss it. Beautiful swimming pool area. Perfect base to visit Viana do Castelo (only 15 minutes away). Just go now!

Now I can experience paradise before I pass away.I stay at Quinta da Bouca dÁrques and that miracle happens.
In fact I´ve stayed several times, mostly in August, but this time I chose October, and the experience was delightful.I´ve enjoyed the charm of the house, the tranquility of the surrondings, the wonderful gastronomy, the beautiful square of Viana do Castelo, with its nice people, history and cultural heritage.Difficult to forget this cocktail of emotions.

Room Tip: All different with charm, difficult to advise

We stayed in the Casa the Jacaranda, amazing modern architecture, with everything you need: small but fully equiped kitchen, very comfortable bed, good bathroom, nice sitting room, lovely terrace with view of the vineyards. Good breakfast every morning on your doorstep, advice about restaurants, lovely swimming pool and a quiet wood to walk in next to the quinta. Ideal for trips to Viana, Barcelos, the beach and Ponte de Lima, Barga...

This was a perfect place to end our holiday through France, Spain and Portugal. A beautiful house, full of history, in natural surroundings. We were allocated the cottage which is beneath the owner's living accommodation and were astonished at how much space we had. The interior was rather dark which meant we sometimes had to have lights on in daylight hours but it was wonderfully cool with wooden shutters, better than air conditioning. We also had a verandah with deck chairs where we could relax and also eat the breakfast that was delivered each morning. One minor winge was that we slept late one morning and by the time we got up the flask of coffee had gone cold. The grounds are lovely and although we didn't use the pool it was a pleasant area to curl up with a book.
A car is essential if you want to see more of the area and visit nearby towns and beaches. Be aware that access to the property is along a cobbled, single track road and access through the entrance gate is very tight.
A unique and interesting place to stay. We liked it very much and would recommend to our friends.

This place is completely idyllic - set in a fantastic location in the midst of vineyards and with unspoiled views for miles around. It's part of an old country estate and you can still feel the history all around you, although it now has plenty of stylish, modern design twists. We stayed in Casa Lavanda - perfect with 2 small kids (7 and 4) with 2 bedrooms and a separate lounge/small kitchen area. The pool is small but pristine and set away from the rooms. The family who own and run the hotel are incredibly friendly and welcoming. And with Viana only 15 minutes away, stunning Porto 50 mins away and several stunning beaches within 25 mins drive it's very well located. All in all - a great choice for anyone who likes peace and quiet in an unspoiled location - with a touch of style thrown in.

Stunning isolated location perfect for getting away from it all. Lovely living room - shared space but a little uncomfortable if the adjoining apartment are using the dining table for breakfast - not sure if it's their dining room also? A car is a necessity here. Breakfast is unique - delivered in a basket each morning!
Prompt help when there was someone in the office with broken TV/DVD player. Can't help thinking it's getting a little dated internally e.g. Rusty fridge, bathroom, no iPod dock.
We would have loved to have arrived by car however we arrived stressed as a result of the lack of information or support available on bicycles on Portugese trains! We had emailed before booking to ensure it would be possible to bring bicycles however little advice or help was provided on the nightmare journey from Vigo with bikes.
It's such a pity that the lovely coffees weren't replemished by house keeping - wasn't a problem when we asked for them at the office. Missed opportunity with regards to a small welcome hamper of local good - a nice touch which was lacking.

Positiv: sehr schönes Gelände, sehr schöner Pool, sehr nette Personal. (My mum put her camera under the pillow which was then accidentally send to laudrary by the cleaning lady, they did all they could to help us find the camera and in the end sent it to us to our hotel in Lisbon)

Negativ: a bit worn. We stayed in the two-bedroom apartment and find the kitchenette quite outdated (still the electronic one which needs long to heat up and you almost can still boil a pot of water after switching off) The wall between the bedroom and the bathroom is not sound proof at all. The bathroom is in between of the bedrooms. So whenever someone went to the toilette during the night the whole family woke up. Further more, we paid extra for the baby cot which is always free elsewhere. In the end we paid 90 Euro for the baby cot for the 6 days stay. We could buy 2-3 brand new baby cots with that money. So all in all, we find it bit overpriced. We stayed also in similar apartments in Porto and in Lisbon. They are both brand new with modern kitchen and facilities. For one we paid 65 Euro less for the other 15 Euro less but it has two bathrooms. On the other hand, neither of them has swimming pool or the beautiful garden. We also find difficult to go out dining as the nearest restaurant is 10 km away. And soon the recommended restaurants list within 20mins drive is over. So be prepared to have to cook yourselves.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Please change our classification to 4 stars ! Quinta da Bouca d'Arques is a beautifully restored Manor House in the Minho region of Portugal. The owners of this small chic hotel Ana and Joao have taken the road less travelled in renovating this beautiful house; they have moved away from traditional materials and have used iron, glass and concrete throughout the property creating a modern fresh feel in all of the 7 casas.AccommodationQuinta da Bouca d'Arques has 7 casas, all one-bedroom apart from the two-bedroom Casa da Lavanda. Antique wooden and wrought iron beds are mixed with power showers and contemporary colour palettes. Each casa has its own balcony, living room, outside area and kitchenette and all come with LCD TVs with Satellite, CD & DVD players and WiFi. Two of these luxury cottages have air-conditioning. Breakfast is prepared and left in the fridge and fresh bread is delivered every day to the room. This ensures that guests can enjoy breakfast at their leisure wherever they like.ActivitiesIn a corner of this small hotel there is a charming small wooden house where children can play. Beaches are just 15 minutes away by car and are just as good as the beaches in the South of Portugal. The swimming pool is in the garden and is treated with salt rather than chlorine. Mountain bikes are supplied to guests and there are 3 great golf courses within 30 minutes of Quinta da Bouca d'Arques. For those who wish to be pampered, take a relaxing massage. ... more   less
