Granted, the place looks very stylish when you enter the lobby. But when you check in it feels like your checking in to a fancy youth hostel with all the rules and regulations you have to obey and the rather poor service level. For instance breakfast: You have to purchase a voucher in order to be allowed to enter the breakfast room. If you need to borrow an umbrella: No! They make you by one. The receptionists all have fake names like Sun and Smile.
The rooms are quite big nice at first glance but when you look closer you can see the little faults. There is absolutely no storage room - that's ok if you are on you own, but for 2 people - no way this will work. The Konigsstraat is very noisy, even in the 8th floor you can hear every car passing by. Not to mention the trams. You need earplugs to get a decent rest.

After I was more than just disenchanted with my previous regular lodgings in Brussels (the NH Arenberg), it was time to set up shop, as it were, somewhere different. For our traditional Pre-Christmas Brussels Spree we therefore selected the Bloom! I must admit that I was not sure whether we should take the risk - as reviews here seemed pretty mixed - but then we decided to just go ahead and book.

We have not regretted the choice; the Bloom! is a fun hotel to stay at, with large rooms (different sizes actually, size "L" gives you about 30 square meters and a nicely sized bathroom) and professional service. Check-in was fast although several conferences (Head and Shoulders, Pampers, ...) seemed to be taking place at the same time. We had chosen the 'organic' room design in advance and though I must say that the particular design of the room was different from and less relaxing than I had expected, I must admit that I find the idea of designer rooms charming, although it has obviously been done before.

Breakfast was 19,- EUR if booked in advance and 25,- if booked at the hotel and I do feel that this is a bit steep considering what is offered at the buffet - even though the atmosphere in the breakfast room is quite nice. Across the street is a Carrefour Express so you can get your own groceries and store them in the minibar after you have consumed the two complimentary bottles of water. Senseo coffee maker is a nice touch and worked fine. A/C could be more powerful and the room was a bit stuffy but maybe they turned it down for the winter. I do not agree with some reviewers' complaints about the staff. Everybody we dealt with was professionally friendly and accommodating. When we notified reception that the small safe in our room did not work properly they apologized and told us that regrettably no technician was on duty that day but offered us a change of room without any fuss.

We did not dine or drink at their bar/restaurant but it did look quite nice from the outside. Prices are a bit high, though: 12,- EUR for a glass of whisky (Blended, not Single Malt) is a wee bit overpriced, I think. I would definitely recommend the Bloom! for travellers seeking the unusual although I have to admit that, at about 83,- EUR per night (including city tax), it is not a gigantic bargain.

PROs:
- nice design
- professional service
- furniture ok (flatscreen, nice chairs)
- Senseo coffeemaker
- minibar and safe (complimentary bottles of water on arrival)
- location (Metro Kruidtuin/Botanique just around corner, bus 61 connects to Montgomery, Noordstation)

CONs
- breakfast a bit overpriced
- rooms, esp. bathrooms tending toward the slightly grubby in places (corners, mortar joints)
- no identifiable Dutch speakers at the reception, although English worked ok (Belgium IS a country with two official languages)

Just back from a 3 night stay at the Hotel Bloom, and I have to say we were really impressed. Im quite a traditionalist, so when my husband suggested this hotel due to the great reviews on here, I wasnt sure, but really shouldnt have worried. The room was lovely and big and clean and bright. There is a free safe and ipod charger. There is a coffee making machine in the room, but not many supplies and the replenishing random, but you can easily stock up from the Carrefour supermarket over the road. Free water in the fridge a nice touch too. Like other guests we thought the breakfast was too expensive at €21 so opted to eat breakfast in one of the many cafes closely available. The hotel is about a twenty minute walk to the Grand Place, so is a little way out but the metro, trams and buses all run nearby. Eurostar deal £482 for travel and hotel for 3 nights.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back away from the main road.

We're just back from three nights at this hotel, and would warn about bag thiefs operating within the hotel & outside.
On entering the hotel & before check in, we were advsied to keep an eye on our bags as theft is a problem for the hotel. Upon checking out we witnessed this first hand, in the form of a well dressed gentleman casually picking up one of our bags whilst waiting for a taxi, so beware.
Something else that seems to be missing, is the mention that the hotel is located within a red light district, opeartional even at 9am !
There are better located hotels nearer to the centre that are queiter (traffic noise is loud - no lazy lay in), but you will struggle to find the size of room, especially the XL rooms.

Room Tip: Room Tip - Ask for a room at the back of the hotel to minimise the traffic & tram noise.

We're just back from three nights at this smashing hotel, as part of a Eurostar package. Having read some variable reviews we approached Hotel Bloom with a degree of trepidation. We need not have worried as, from the start, it was an excellent stay. The hotel fully complied with our e mailed request for a twin bedded room in a quiet part of the hotel (we were on the 5th floor at the back).
Our room was quite spacious and modern, despite being very much the standard option, and the bathroom was everything it needed to be, i.e. the shower was good and the water hot. The T.V. had at least two English channels, including BBC 1 & 2, together with the usual dire BBC World (yawn). The internet, which is nearly free (5 Euros a day if a certain limit is reached), worked well.
Breakfast, at 25 Euros per person per day, was ludicrously priced so, like a number of other guests, we did a DIY version courtesy of the Carrefour Express across the road; at about a tenth of the cost. There is a coffee maker in the room and free water is provided.
The hotel is about a 20 minute walk downhill into the centre of town but would naturally take longer coming back. The Botanique metro station is virtually next to the hotel and a taxi to the Eurostar terminal was about 12 Euros each way.
The staff were helpful and friendly, apart from the slightly charmless girl on reception at checkout.
Whilst accepting that not everyone has had the same experience as we did here, we can only speak as we found and would recommend this hotel to anyone. Last but definitely not least, the hotel element of our Eurostar package was £140 in total - unbeatable!

Room Tip: E mail your request a few days earlier (as we did) - it worked for us.

It's one of those Brussels industrial-scale hotels from the 60s, just next to the Botanic gardens (memo to newcomers: these are Belgian-style gardens, ie right next to main roads and skyscrapers!). Large sized rooms, fully renovated by designers about five years ago. Enough space to work and relax in. However, the renovation didn't quite stretch to the bathrooms, which are still essentially as per 1965 (although clean). I've stayed here a few times over the years and it's always worked out for me: free wifi, free water in the room, nice bed and normally pretty quiet. On my last stay, the checkin/checkout was a bit random: eventually got the breakfast that came with the roomrate (persistence pays!) but not the 'XL' sized room which they swapped for an 'L' without checking with me.
