“A lot of promise but no delivery”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

I would vote Belgium and France as the two most unfriendly cities in Europe. The Hotel Bloom is in a good location, is well finished and has a couple of very helpful staff but most of the staff did not seem interested in the customers. The restaurant has to be one of the worst experiences we have ever had. The first day they did not have what I had ordered, then they did not deliver the right order and then the tuna was cold and from a tin. No offer was made to give us a free dessert or even a apology.

The next night we went into the restaurant for a drink. After 25 min. of no service I went to the bar and ordered the drinks. We were in the bar about 45 min. and not a single waiter/waitress came by our table.

This is not a cheap hotel. Parking and breakfast and taxes add $50 a day to the bill .

Next time I will use the NH hotel, it is in the same price range and we have had good service at other NH hotels

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

1 night stay on august 27th
The lobby is just incredible, the staff is lovely, the rooms are clean and nicely decorated (each room has its own fresco painted by an artist, love the idea!)
The rooms are well maintained, and well soundproofed (even though I had a room just in front the elevator!) and bedding is quite comfortable. By the way the air conditionning is quiet too !

For the geeks like me out there, there is a nice TV set, with a very rich multimedia interface with Internet/Youtube/Facebook/Twitter and more directly available directly on TV! I really enjoyed.
I really recommend the breakfast buffet (even if you think it is expensive, read on, it is NOT !), because you will find almost ANYTHING you would ever have for a breakfast (I traveled a lot, and this is one counts for the rare to have that much choice).
Before a daylong walk in Brussels, you will definitely enjoy to have your stomach filled for the morning !

The hotel's restaurant, at the time of my visit, only offers a limited amount of dishes (Salads or pastas), but you can order your choose and customize your dish, and the food was very good !
So, simple, but effective and tasty !

For the next couple of weeks (probably until september 15th), because of work in progress on the main street, you could have a bit of noise during the day, but they stop at around 6PM.

If you are coming by car, don't hesitate to use the hotel's parking. It's expensive, yes (27€ for 24h) but at least your car is safe, and no hassle with your bags and stuff, you can access directly to the hotel through the elevator !

Definitely recommend !

The main lobby is inviting and stylish with a large eating area for breakfast. There is even a mini bar in the lobby where one can buy drinks and sandwiches 24/7. The staff is friendly and can advice on the area. Next door is a park, which is frequented by the locals. We had some construction outside, but it didn't effect our sleeping. The rooms are slightly smaller than average, but adequate and the price was right at around 100 Euros.

The hotel is located perfectly near a metro station (Botanique) and 15 mins walk from the Grand Place. The rooms were spacious and modern and clean, the bathroom also was really clean with interesting design. Although there were engineering works on the main street outside the hotel, the rooms were on the other side and were very quiet and peaceful, we couldn't hear anything and that was great for our sleep.
The wi-fi speed in the room was really good. There is also a room with pool and 4 desktop computers on the floor below the lobby.
We stayed there for 2 nights several days apart and definitely recommend this hotel.
The overall price was excellent for what you get.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the upper floors 5 or 6, they seem to be quieter and have good view over the surro...

A large, mainstream-seeming hotel that is actually something different. The decor is funky, geometric, minimalist and modern; and each room has a different original mural on the main wall, each painted by one of various youth artists. Out teenaged son thought this was about the coolest hotel he'd ever been to! The staff on the front desk were friendly and helpful, as was the cleaning staff we encountered. The receptionist gave us an extra "summer discount" on our room rate that was a nice surprise. We had an XXL suite on the 8th floor, which was quite large, with lots of storage and a sitting area with a tremendous view of the city. There was plenty of room to put in an extra rollaway bed. The bathroom was also large, with modernist styling and a good shower. Everything was very clean. The inroom climate control worked well, and the windows open (not too widely) for fresh air, which I always look for.

The restaurant and breakfast lounge were closed while we were there, possibly because August is downtime in Europe; but my husband has stayed there on business in the past and says that the restaurant is good, and the breakfast extensive, with amazing made-to-order Belgian waffles (when in Belgium...)

The hotel is next to a botanical garden/park with a massive statue of king Leopold I, and is a 20 minute walk to the historical old centre of Brussels, which is a lovely area to wander around in, lots of restaurants, cafes and shops. You won't be bored. Nothing is cheap, however!

Conveniences in the hotel include in-room coffee, and in the lobby they have a refrigerator case where you can buy fresh sandwiches, salads, pastry and drinks, just pay at the reception desk. Very handy. There is also a small Carrefour grocery store right across the street, and several restaurants in the immediate area. There are a few English channels available on the TV, and the WiFi is good, although a bit tricky to setup on an Ipad. We had no trouble getting an early wake-up call on our day of departure, and our taxi was waiting at the appointed time.

The only drawback we found, as has been mentioned in other reviews, is that Rue Royale right in front of the hotel is currently torn up to install new tram lines. This made things a bit tricky, but would not discourage us from staying there again. Our room was in the back of the hotel, overlooking the city, so noise was not a problem; and when the construction is finished, state-of-the art new trams will run right past the hotel.

We liked Brussels, and enjoyed our stay at Hotel Bloom. We would definitely stay there again for either business or pleasure.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back side of the hotel, away from street construction in front.

Thanks for this great review! It is correct, in less than 3 weeks the road works will be finished and we will have a beautiful street again! We do hope to see you here again so you can try out our restaurant as well.

Hotel Bloom on line it looked different, each room created by a different designer, it had a very open feel, it looked a bit quirky and relaxed. Our stay proved these to be true and the staff so helpful

My husband booked it for my birthday. The place is beautiful, art on every wall. Something new and exciting to look at. The only downfalls were the construction going on outside the hotel and also there was banging in a room next to us early in the morning and throughout the day. I recommend booking a room facing the city side and high up for a decent view. Also the restaurant "Smood" was closed so we didn't get to experience what people have been going on about. Plus I wanted to take picture in the restaurant but couldn't. The area is within 10-20min walk away from city centre and most bars and restaurants are scattered everywhere. Using the metro is straight forward and I'd say the easiest way to get around. The taxis vary in price because they knew we were tourist some would start at €2 others would start at €7 a big difference before we've even got to our destination.

Things are expensive over there so if your on a budget plan what things to do first.

The room was nice and clean and the coffee machine and fridge was helpful.

On a whole I would go there again and recommend anyone else to experience the amazing time I had.
