We stayed at the Thon between 24/01/14 and 26/01/14 and I would recommend it to anyone. We arrived at 10.30am and expected to put our suitcases in the luggage storage until check in but to our delight the reception staff told us our room was ready and we could check in now.
The room was a good size and the bathroom was very spacious. The television in the room has BBC1 and BBC2 but not a lot else in English. The green idea if you are staying more than one night is a really nice touch. The room was also spotless and the temperature of the room was just right as well.
The location couldn't have been better. There is a city sightseeing bus stop right outside the hotels front door. There is a supermarket next door and if you are going to walk into the centre it will take you at the most 10 minutes.
I read other reviews for the hotel and they all seemed to criticise the staff. I couldn't disagree more. Every member of staff that I encountered was more than lovely. I asked for extra pillows, directions to different places, the best way to get to Bruges as we were going on a day trip and a couple of other things and the staff couldn't have been nicer. They always had a smile on their face and remembered when we had asked about Bruges as a couple of days later the same receptionist asked if we had gone to Bruges and had a good time, not bad considering the hotel has 29 floors. I also asked what time check out was and was told it was 12.00pm but we could stay in our room till 2.00pm for no extra charge if we wanted. You don't get that at every hotel.
The 2 computers with free internet in reception was also a lovely change as nearly every hotel I've ever stayed in they charge you. Of course you get certain guests that take liberties with the free internet. I came downstairs at one point and there was a child watching a film on one of the computers with other people waiting to use them!
On the day we were leaving our flight wasn't until the night so we asked if we could leave our suitcases in the luggage room. Again this was no problem and no extra money was charged.
The only thing to note is that you have to pay a city tax per night you stay which is not included in the room price. It is approx. €6.50 per night.
Overall a fantastic hotel, close to all amenities and fabulous staff.
