Carleen is amazing !!! She is the best. You must see her if you come. She works in the restaurant and served us our breakfast each morning. The staff are super friendly and extremely hospitable. It's really nice. The infinity pool at the top of the hill is magnificent. You will need to take the shuttle to the beaches, which aren't far. The area is not too commercial, which I like. Local area restaurants and businesses and other resorts are in the area. The rooms are very nice. We had a pool on our deck that looked out onto the Caribbean side of the island. I took my buddy here for his birthday. I had Aveda points and used them for a 3 nights stay. They have an Aveda concept spa on the premises. Free massages were included in our package. Carmichael's, their premier restaurant, on top of the ridge, has a great view. The food is over priced, though, for the quality. We got the all inclusive meal plans, so it wasn't a big deal.

We chose Sugar Ridge as we were looking for a quiet, relaxing, high-quality experience for our Silver wedding anniversary holiday. We stayed for 2 weeks on the all-inclusive option and have just returned home after our amazing experience. The staff at Sugar Ridge are the friendliest and most helpful that we have ever experienced. There are too many to mention all by name, but we had super service from Carleen and O'Neill in the Sugar Club restaurant at breakfast, and also O'Neill was highly attentive at bringing our drinks to us around the Sugar Club pool. Nafuna at reception was always so helpful, and with a cheery smile every time we went past. All the Carmichael's staff were just great. The barman mixed us some amazing cocktails while we enjoyed the infinity pool and the service at dinner in Carmichael's was always attentive (Fiona definitely worth a mention!)
Vorn is highly knowledgeable of the local area and took us to lovely beaches in the hotel jeep. We also went on his morning 'walk' and learnt about trees and flowers ( plus some lovely mangoes from his friend's orchard). The local beaches of The Nest, Turner's and Darkwood are all beautiful. Food and drink is included at the Nest and Turners on the all-inclusive deal.
The restaurants at Sugar Ridge are a good mix of fine-dining (Carmichael's ) and more standard fare at Sugar Club, but themed evenings there (seafood, steak, Caribbean evenings) meant the menu changed regularly. We had some stunning meals at Carmichael's (just a small supplement on a few of the more expensive dishes on all-inclusive). Our final meal of whole lobster and fillet steak was a worthy rival to any fine dining experience in London. The fillet steak was probably the most tender of any we have eaten anywhere in the world.
There's plenty of options for trips out if you want. We hired a car for the day to see English Harbour, Nelson's Dockyard and Shirley Heights. We did a boat trip one day...snorkelling, barbecue lobster on the beach at Bird Island..well worth it. Mostly though we just chose to chill on the almost-deserted beaches or by one of the lovely pools.
Overall - lovely staff, comfortable room, vast amounts of food and drink, beautiful beaches, warm climate, interesting trips out. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Higher up gives better views. Lower down is less climbing, but lifts to the top pool and Carmichael...

I have mixed feelings about Sugar Ridge. My family stayed in 2 rooms with plunge pools and the rooms were very nice and the rooms and pools were clean. The staff was very friendly, but there was no sense of urgency. When you need a golf cart ride to Carmichael's at the top of the hill, it doesn't arrive on time. I waited with another guest for 10-15 minutes in the rain. I should have asked for a lift 15 minutes prior to my reservation. The food at Carmichael's was very good, but it was overpriced by a third, in my estimation. And all of the restaurants were open-air, so on hot, humid nights it wasn't terribly comfortable for us. The 2 most important thing to know are that there is little to do in the area, and nothing is air-conditioned, even at restaurants in Jolly Harbour, which are also outside under awnings. Second, Sugar Ridge is a mosquito haven. Even though the resort sprays a few times a week in a manner that seems akin to chemical warfare, mosquitoes are still present on occasion and it's not a good idea to leave your room doors open while enjoying the balcony view. The grounds are not terribly beautiful--certainly not like upscale Hawaii or Fla. resorts, but the views are terrific. I would go back, but only at off-season prices.

Room Tip: The higher the room number, the better the view.

We have been to this hotel several times for dinner in both the two restaurants they boast.
Every time we have had to complain or send something back its outrageous, we will not be eating there again thats for sure.
Tough steaks on the 2 for 1 steak evening.. The complaint was met with a shrug of the shoulders!
The more expensive carmichels restaurant was so bad we refused to pay!!
The cleanliness of the rest rooms was very bad, it just put us off our dinner completely.
Pool loungers were tired and some broken, shower heads off in the changing room, tiles missing from the pool, oh dear what has gone wrong???
Come on sugar ridge... Spend some money on this place please!!!!

I was very concerned to read your review which has since been discussed with both Restaurant Managers and our Executive Chef. Unfortunately we have no record of anyone refusing to pay their bill in Carmichael's and also no knowledge of your complaint at Sugar Club. Both restaurants normally enjoy an excellent reputation for food and service and I am extremely sorry that your experiences would appear to have been so different.

Facilities throughout the hotel are maintained to a high standard through our on going maintenance programme which accelerates at this time of year when the hotel is quieter and there is more time available.

If you could send us your name or a telephone number where we could reach you we would like to investigate your complaint further .

So, I was coming through Antigua on my way to/from BVI on business and thought that I would like to do a quick overnight in the island to take in some sun before making my way back to Europe.

As I had fond memories of Jacqui O's Restaurant on Love Beach, St. Mary's from my trip here last February, I pitched up at Sugar Ridge since it is a short shuttle ride down the road from Jacqui O's. Sugar Ridge's comfortable and well appointed accommodation made a great combination with Jacqui O's fantastic beach and fabulous food. (see my review on Jacqui O's).

Sugar Ridge is not on the beach and in a place like Antigua, for me, that's crucial, so the marriage of the Sugar Ridge Hotel with Jacqui O's Beachouse/restaurant was the killer combination.

We found sugar ridge by reading the reviews on Tripadvisor and a few other sites and we were not let down.

Right from the start the staff were warm, friendly and could not do enough for you. The place was clean and fresh looking and very comfortable. The food is totally delicious and there is so much to choose from. Carmichaels at sunset is very romantic and the food sets the evening off.

You must try the spa centre on-site as this is one of the best I have been to and the couples massage is amazing..

Only issue we found is what to choose, beach or pool, boat trip or relaxing. I would recommend sugar ridge to couples who want to have a quiet, relaxed time. But this does cater well for families also.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view and the ground floor rooms have a great plunge pool but rooms higher than...

I don't even know where to begin! My husband and I just got back from spending a week at Sugar Ridge for our Honeymoon. It was everything we wanted and more. This resort is designed and catered for a romantic, adult getaway. As soon as we walked into the reception area, we were greeted by Lafaan (sorry if I've spelt it wrong) who made us feel so welcome. The ice cold tropical punch was also a great addition! Sugar Ridge is exactly how they describe it, a boutique style resort - which was exactly what we wanted. It has 60 units that are all placed along the side of a mountain. The rooms have views of the gorgeous harbor, water and island and lots of privacy. The higher the rooms the more privacy, but the further you are from the main reception and main pool. We had unit 42 and it was perfect. It had a private plunge pool on the massive balcony and it was such a great way to unwind each night. The rooms themselves are spotless, modern and comfortable. The air conditioning worked perfectly, and the bed is very comfy! Our favorite part was laying in bed with the french doors open - enjoying the warm breeze and views.

The property is gorgeous including both restaurants, lobby and pools. Carmichaels pool is amazing, definitely go up for sunset and a drink! The sugar ridge club pool is also great, we spent many afternoons there with snacks and drinks. The lounge chairs are comfy too. The resort is not on the beach but it didn't matter because the resort has beach shuttle service to many of the local beaches. These beaches also happen to be among the best on Antigua. Turner's beach is nice but we really loved the Nest Beach (Valley Church). We always went back to the Nest. The beach bar there is authentic and low key, and the beach itself is just gorgeous. It was quite secluded when we went, long wide white sandy beach front, and the water is amazing. It is the most turquoise water I've ever seen, and literally no waves. You can just lounge around in clear, warm blue water all day!

We did the all inclusive which worked out perfectly for us being on our honeymoon. We didn't want to think or plan meals or restaurants. If we went back, I'd probably just do the breakfast package and explore the island restaurants a bit more, but the all inclusive was definitely great for the honeymoon. I especially liked that their all inclusive menu included champagne! In terms of food, the Sugar Club is where we ate most of our meals. Amazing staff, great food and variety. We had 3 dinners at Carmichaels (the fine dining option) but it didn't blow us away. We appreciated the Sugar Club more, but Carmichaels view is definitely worth at least one dinner during sunset. Our ONLY complaint (and we didn't mind) was the wifi sometimes iffy. Some days it was perfect, other days it didn't work or would go in and out.

The best part of Sugar Ridge is honestly the service. It is a step above. The people are so nice and accommodating. A few to mention are: Rodayne (dealing with our flight issues and being so nice), Carleen (the best most friendly server at Sugar Club), Stevette (helped us plan our ATV trip, which was also so much fun and highly recommended -- Antigua Buggys Tour - you see the entire island from a cool dune buggy and get to have lunch on the most secluded beach), Vaughn (the beach runner, knows so much about the island and took us to get local fresh fruits), Oneil/Javin (all such nice people, readily available to give you a lift up the hill in the golf carts) and the Manager Keith (who dealt with our check out and reservation issue professionally and promptly).

Overall, the island of Antigua was a great honeymoon spot. We really enjoyed how low key and authentic the island was. Thank you to Sugar Ridge for making our honeymoon one to remember! We hope to be back for an anniversary!

Room Tip: Unit 42 was amazing. High enough up on the mountain for a great view and privacy, but close enough t...
