“I love Kids But !!”
Reviewed 10 January 2013

we went to Sala booked through Kuoni for a relaxing and well earned break over new year. we had a warm welcome and were shown to our Pool villa which was comfortable clean and big enough for two of us but not huge. Staff throughout the stay were helpful polite and attentive with out being in your face which was welcomed. Our biggest gripe was that there were a lot of children there, now before the heavens open with daggers flying at me that im not a child hater, im no really. But We were expecting a relaxing couples kind of resort, I could not find on the Sala website anywhere where it says family friendly Hotel, or come to that on the kuoni site either. In fact it says "Magically minimalist and ideal for relaxed romance" it also comes under the kuoni category of a "time together resort", which means, tranquil, relaxed uninterrupted time together. To be fare it does say children's pool on teh kuoni website, but with all the other descriptions we were hooked by the tranquil side of it. Didn't help that on the first day we are sitting in the pool of our Villa and a football comes over and lands in the pool, then kids jumping in the pool in the villa next to us. shouting and bombing. I guess it wasn't what we were expecting so was more of a shock than a huge disappointment. There were kids round the both pools at sala jumping in and making a racket, all perfectly normal things for kids to do on holiday, but not on the holiday we were expecting of a resort like sala.

Apart from that the food was good, Just one more thing i liked the ideas of the pools of water round reception and the one that surrounded the Lap pool, but really this would have been lovely if it was filled with clear water with plants and fish swimming, instead it was a murky muddy water and not good i would think for distracting the ever present mosquitos !!

Ok Winge over !

Dear signature "forest 149",

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review on Tripadvisor. We are pleased to read that your overall experience was positive, and that you enjoyed both the room and the services of the hotel.
With regards to children, you are absolutely correct that we are not marketing ourselves as a family oriented resort, but it does happen that in times in times of school holidays, Christmas and New Year, Easter etc, there can be around 10 children in the entire resort. As the pool villas are private, it is difficult for us to control what goes on behind the walls, -but we would have appreciated if you notified us, and we would have tried to either calm them down, or offer you an alternative villa. Around the beach and pool area we separate it so that 1 pool ( the white so called fun Pool), that has a separate children's section, is open for all, whereas the black pool and the surrounding area is for adults only.
The pond around the black lap pool does have an overflow system, and the water circulates, but it is meant to have a more "natural" appearance,

Kind regards

SALA Samui has got to be the nicest hotel we have stayed in. The staff were fantastic and we received brilliant service throughout our stay. As it was our honeymoon, i was treated to a bunch of flowers, chocolates and champagne and the bed and bath were decorated with rose petals. We were also give a massage each and a complimentary dinner at the hotel.

We stayed in a deluxe balcony room which was huge. The balcony area was massive as was the partly outdoor bathroom. Some people have commented that there is a lack of privacy and these rooms are noisy but i cant say this was the case for us at all. The room was perfect.

The two pools were beautiful (we used the black pool more as it was quieter - most of the families with children seem to stay by the white pool). The beach is also nice, although public so you do have to share with other holiday makers outside of the hotel and get approached by beach vendors, not that this was a problem.

We didnt expect the restaurant to be as brilliant as it was and we really cant speak highly enough of the food. There is a great selection at breakfast and everything is made fresh so isn't left sitting around like normal hotel buffet breakfasts. We were there over Christmas and the hotel did a fantastic tasting menu on Christmas eve. We wish we had tried their usual tasting menu but went to Dining on the Rocks at Six Senses (don't bother with this - not worth it). The Thai Buffet on Wednesday evenings is also good but there are several Thai restaurants just outside of the hotel that are great and fantastic value for money (The Orchid - food great but takes ages, about £15 for a meal for two with a couple of drinks, Chaplins - food good and service quicker, similar prices).

All in all, i cant speak more highly of SALA. The staff are amazing and the hotel is beautiful. The location is great (not too far from Bophut Fisherman's Village or Chaweng for a bit of shopping)

Room Tip: We stayed in a deluxe balcony room which was huge. The balcony area was massive as was the partly ou...

We stayed 4 nights in a pool villa as part of our honeymoon on December 2012. There are so many great points to this resort I couldn't possibly list them all. The staff were fantastic, very helpful and always polite. The food was exquisite, and the rooms were beautifully prepared to offer luxury at an affordable price. This is definitely the place to stay in Koh Samui, especially if you want to avoid the hustle of Chaweng Beach but still want to be close enough not to have to travel for an hour to get to the best shopping locations. The spa is also highly recommended, my only regret is that we didn't stay longer.

Room Tip: Pool villas are best to experience all this place has to offer

Well, I win a twango auction for 2 nights in Sala Samui villa pool.
Living in HK easy for a relax week end. From booking to the end of my stay all have been great. No matter the room, the hotel by itself or the swimming/sea area, the staff all were perfect for a relaxing time.

I am frankly puzzled by all the rave reviews of this hotel as these people couldn't have stayed at the same resort in which I had just spent three days. Sala Samui was the worst hotel (yet the most expensive) we stayed in during our 10 day trip to Thailand. The problem with this hotel lies both with its management and accommodations.

We stayed in a Deluxe Balcony room. While I understand we were traveling in peak season, the room is definitely not worth the money. First, it is tiny and dark. Second, the room is completely non-functional. It has an open bathroom concept that completely fails. There is a huge glasswall that seperates the non-air conditioned bathroom and bed area. However, the toilet is not hidden, so everytime you want to actually use the bathroom you have to draw the curtains which get stuck in the awkward glass door. There is barely any room for luggage in this room and most of the rooms do not have ocean views. We peaked into one of the pool villas and they did not seem much better.

It seems that the place is mis-managed. There are plenty of staff and they are nice and trying, but they don't really seem to know what they are doing. There is no towel person at the pool and when they run out there is no one to ask for more. Getting a waiter's attention at dinner is impossible. I watched a man at the table near mine raise his hand for 15 minutes waiting for someone to come over. The service is just not that of a 5 or 4 star resort.

The pools are somewhat shabby and the beach is pretty dirty. Overall, I would say this is more of a three star resort with 5 star prices.

We stayed in a pool villa room which includes its own plunge pool and outdoor bath. The suite is well maintained, clean and was quite spacious. The room pool was also very clean and free of debris. Check-in was efficient and friendly and you're given a refreshing beverage while you're getting checked in. Upon arrival to your room you're given a selection of pillows and soap scents. Turn-down service included sweets and a note from the room attendant.

Our room rate included the buffet breakfast, food selection was ok, would have liked to see more selection but it was good enough. The fresh juice bar selection was a highlight. Service in the restaurant was excellent, the staff was friendly and efficient and the food and beverage manager was onsite at nearly every meal we had there. There is a also a good happy hour from 2-3 and 6-8. There is a shuttle that takes guests to the main strip of town for a small fee.

Room Tip: Pool villa is excellent choice.

I couldn't have been happier with our stay at Sala. The facilities were first rate and the rooms were just incredible. The staff were the best I have come across, you couldn't ask too much of them and they often thought of things you might need before you did. They also always had a genuine smile on their face and cared about how your holiday was going. The food was also excellent and we loved our breakfast every morning looking at the beautiful pool and beach. I was very sad to leave but we will be back!

Room Tip: Getting the private pool villa is worth it!
