“Honeymoon at Sala Samui”
Reviewed 20 February 2014

It was gorgeous. We were treated wonderfully, all the staff were polite and so so friendly.
The weather was a bit of a shame-the first few days were windy and therefore the beach was not very nice however we got some good r n r time by our villa pool reading.
Rooms were lovely. Every night we got a little note and sweets from Chef Max.
Only issues were mozzies (which are everywhere anyway) and straight away, when requested, a mosquito net was placed over our bed.

Well what to say about this superb resort...it proved worth the bucks spent at this splendid spoiling property for my honeymoon. i stayed here in December'13 for 3 nights in SALA POOL VILLA. Believe me... it's an experience you should have. I will fall short of words for this amazing property and over whelming staff.

The Room:- It was a large room and its doors opened to a giant and 1.5 m deep private POOL. Maintenance and cleaning staff is top notch and humble. the open bath tub was such awe-sum add on. Also the day beds and sitting area in the garden was amazing.

The Beach:- I rate it as the best beach in Thailand because of its cleanliness and beauty. The Beach is not a private one but very well maintained by the hotel staff. They clean it regularly. The scenic beauty is at its best. Hotel's furniture on the beach is too good and class. You will get staff at your service moment you are heaading towards the beach and he will spoil you with anything u need.

The Pool - the beach has two pools. White Pool( crowded one as kids are allowed) and Black Pool( Silent one for real swimming). Both pool were 1.5 m deep and good for swimming. Awesome sitting areeas along the pool where beaautiful huts are made for leisure.

Restaurant:- Apart from the big buffet for breakfast which is spoiling enough, Sala offers the biggest Ala carte menu to order. I was spoiled by the amazing breakfast i had there and no other hotel had and has yet matched this benchmark for me. i personally loved the fruit puch every morning. There were a lot of activities going on every night by the pool side like live music, Thai night with thai dance girls and music etc. which were a delight.

Bar:- Ohhh my my... would you believe that in a five star property u get served with best of alcohol and mocktails in swimming pool with HAPPY HOURS ALL DAY LONG. and the prices otherwise are also very less.

The Staff:- always smiling...they are so happy that they will make you happy. They are so humble that they will greet you and give you the way everytime they see you.

freebies:- Since i was on a honeymoon i got alot of freebies from the hotel. Room set up and a bottle of wine, a couple spa, complimentary sweet dish every night.

Room Tip:- choose villa no. 12 if you are opting for SALA POOL VILLA as its very close to the beach.

thank you !! Sala Samui for making my honeymoon so special. I cherish my time spent there.

Room Tip: choose villa no. 12 if you are opting for SALA POOL VILLA as its very close to the beach.

They say nothing is ever perfect therefore something has to be close. For me it's the Sala Samui. Had my 8th stay in 6 years recently and all I can say is that the feeling I had on that first stay was still there. We stayed in a Garden pool villa and the room was as stylish and enjoyable as ever.

But for me it's not about the room that keeps me coming back for more. It is the ambience and feeling of total relaxation that I get from the pool and beach area. The restaurant is located oh so close to all this beautiful space and it makes you feel like you live there. The food is just beautiful and fresh as well as varietal enough for all and in my opinion is the best breakfast option of any resort I have stayed at in SE Asia.

If it's total relaxation and spoiling you are after look no further than the Spa. I have spent quite a bit of time in it over the years and always walk out half asleep!

The location is also a part of the draw back to repeated stays. It's only a short shuttle or taxi ride from the airport and Cheongmon beach is one of those little quiet local beaches that escapes from the hustle and bustle of Chaweng. It's close to the quaint fisherman village which is worth a visit on a Friday night to see the night market or "Walking Street" as it is known. There are also some relaxing bars and restaurants in the area.

I would like to finish my review to talk about the staff as I truly believe it is the staff f the Sala Samui that gives the resort it's biggest edge. Every year, every stay we feel more and more welcome by everyone. From the General Manager down to the maintenance staff nothing is too much trouble for any guest and the staff ensure every minute of every day is a great experience.

Will I go back again for stay #9? Yes I will, because being so close to perfection is contagious ..

Room Tip: Unless you desperately. Want your own plunge pool, which there are many of, consider the standard ba...

We travelled to the Sala as part of our honeymoon and it was the best 5 star we have ever stayed in. The Sala is a beautiful, calm, spotless, resort where the attention to detail sets it apart from anywhere I have known.....but, standing out over anything else, is without doubt the staff. I find it hard to believe that ANYBODY could have negative comments to make about any of them. All over the island, we found Thai people to be lovely, gentle and happy individuals, but at the Sala....they are a dream! So polite, friendly and they literally cannot do enough for you. All carrying out there jobs impeccably and with what seems to be genuine enjoyment. If there was ever any issues (and if there was, it was very minor) they were rectified immediately. Anything you asked for is delivered to your room so promptly and mistakes were never made. Amazing people.

The Sala pool villas were amazing. The outdoor bathroom is a treat and I can honestly say that in 11 nights, we didn't see any 'crawlies or creatures' other than lizards; despite the extent of trees and gardens within the resort.

Housekeeping again cannot be faulted. We rarely saw the housekeepers in the day, but the chap who used to come at night for the turn down service was an absolute darling! The little sweets and notes that were left were a really lovely touch.

The pool and restaurant area are beautiful. Breakfast was the best I have ever experienced in any 5 star resort. The choice at the buffet and on the a la carte menu caters for everyone.
Lunch menu (reasonable prices) and evening menus (the seafood BBQ and Thai evening buffet were delicious if a little expensive) both fantastic. I often had the pizzas by the pool at lunchtime and they were to die for. The happy hours make the drinks prices much more reasonable.

Loved both the pools, especially the big beds. The service by the pool was second to none and we loved the bits of fruit and constant iced water that were handed out.
As the pool areas are quite compact and surrounded by large trees, it was occasionally awkward getting a bed that wasn't shaded at some point during the day, but the staff always found you somewhere!

The beach is stunning and it is fantastic that the Sala staff can be seen regularly cleaning it.

If I was to feedback any constructive comments, it would probably be that at times, the cooked breakfast menu options came out lukewarm. Also the dishes on the evening buffets which should be served hot, were cool. This didn't take away from the wonderful presentation or taste but it was sometimes a shame.

We stayed in the deluxe balcony room for a few days before we were upgraded to a villa (complimentary). Again, beautiful rooms, but the feature swinging door did sometimes get a little awkward with the curtains. Also, as there were no mirrors inside the air conditioned apartment, getting ready in the evening outside was often a hot and sticky affair!

I appreciate that this is a 5 star resort and the prices are set accordingly. Compared to 5 stars in other parts of the world, it is actually very reasonable. However, for Thailand and Choeng Mon, it is quite pricey and it is a shame that you put on the wonderful evening entertainment (sax on the beach, Thai dancers and Acoustic session) but can't seem to attract a larger/later audience. We loved the relaxed entertainment and lying on the loungers drinking wine, but there was rarely more than a handful of people after 9pm. Perhaps the temptation of cheaper drink in the town impacts on your custom at night?

I would return to the Sala without hesitation, it really is something special with a unique, peaceful and intimate aura....which you rarely find in a hotel. Even the 5 stars.

Room Tip: Go for a pool villa, much more space and a real treat!

We booked our honeymoon here (6 nights- garden villa room with private pool), and we believe this was not only the perfect destination but the resort could not have been better,

We were both spoilt upon arrival and there is nothing the staff wouldn't do for you to make your stay better.

The spa service was amazing and we received the best massage that we have ever had.

The food is also outstanding and they have a variety of dishes, so you can have traditional thai or more western food if you wish.

We would love to come back here and would highly recommend this resort to other couples.

Room Tip: Choose a room with private pool to enhance your experience.

Hi -

Here's the scoop - this was our second stop on a 2+ week honeymoon tour of Thailand. We were only staying at 5 star resorts, going all out, wanting to have a great time. Also, I'll freely admit that my wife and I are snobby about hotels. We have high standards - it's just who we are.

This hotel did not meet those standards.

Now, is it a bad hotel? No! It's perfectly fine, but it's also not a 5 star resort. Some examples why:

-The towels at the beach are rough, have holes, and don't cover the seats fully.
-The locks on the room seemed flimsy. The glass doors didn't enhance the idea of privacy, either.
-The outdoor bathroom (cool idea!) of our room allowed people in the public library area to get a full view of us in certain spots (bad idea!).
-The overall quality of the food was lacking. Little care went into preparing the breakfasts. The lunches were fine, but unremarkable.
-The in-room internet was very spotty.
-Simple customer service things were very difficult to manage. For instance, we asked for 3 electricity adapters. An attendant came to our room with 2. And one of those 2 didn't work. When we sent the one that didn't work back with another attendant, asking for a replacement, no replacement came.

Again, I realize that this probably sounds petty, but when you travel halfway around the world, spend the money, and try to do the research that will guarantee that you live the life of luxury with your new wife for 2 weeks, and you get this instead, it's a bummer.

Also, (and this isn't a reflection on the resort, but the locale), but we found the entire area of Ko Samui to be largely overrun with drunk tourists. It had a very "spring break" vibe to it. Again, not bad, but just not what we were into.
