We stayed at Sala Samui in February this year to celebrate a big birthday. We've been to Koh Samui before and stayed at Chaweng and we wanted to be away from the hustle and bustle this time so Sala Samui was perfect. The beach is so much more peaceful than Chaweng and much cleaner as the jet-skis are kept away from the hotel beach area.

I don't really understand why people complain about the entrance area - it's a pleasant desk area where you check in: I don't really know why you'd want to spend that much time in a lobby area anyway! We were greeted on arrival with a lovely cold drink and our room was ready even though we arrived early in the morning so that was fantastic after a long journey. We were shown to our room and had a quick explanation of everything. It would have been helpful to have had a bit more information about the hotel when we arrived - maybe a little mini tour of the restaurant and pool areas to help us find out how everything worked - but we worked it out ourselves so not really much of a problem.

Our room was beautiful. We had a Garden Pool villa and the pool was fantastic - such a treat to have our own private pool - I loved it. The outdoor bath and shower was amazing - being able to shower and look at the sky was just fantastic. The bed was very comfortable - you don't need the duvet though - way too hot! A couple of the lightbulbs didn't work when we arrived so we rang housekeeping and they were replaced immediately. We also asked for extra mosquito coils and they came very quickly too. As mentioned, it would have been good to have all the little bits explained at the beginning, e.g. show us where the mosquito plug in was kept, and that the coils were replaced daily and that sort of thing. We didn't really understand the choice of pillow idea or the body lotion choices - whether we were supposed to change them daily or just get the same things the whole holiday so we just left that. Anyway, we are probably just a bit dense and the pillows and body lotion we had were fine!! It was really handy having a nice beach bag which I found in the wardrobe - nice idea. The cleaning staff and the turn-down staff were fantastic - they couldn't have been nicer and did a brilliant job. The guy who did the turn-down and left the night-time sweets often left a little note which was lovely.

I was given vouchers for spa treatments for birthday presents from friends so I had a facial, a massage and a manicure which were all good. The Clarins facial was particularly brilliant! We were also offered a complimentary thai massage for myself and my husband so that was another bonus.

The breakfast buffet was out of this world - top class. Major plus point for a hotel buffet - the coffee was very very good! I could rhapsodise about the breakfast forever - suffice to say it was wonderful. We were also given vouchers to the Thai buffet night - the food was lovely but the wine is expensive. I know it's the same all over Koh Samui because of the wine tax which is a shame. As other reviewers have said, most people go elsewhere to eat in the evenings or eat and then go off to party at the cheaper places nearby so it's a bit dead after about 9pm. It's a shame, as it's such a lovely setting, but I don't really know what the answer is - it's a 5-star hotel so you're not going to get bucket-shop prices and they're not really way over the top - it's just compared to the local places they are more expensive. If somehow they could get the place a bit buzzier in the evenings it would be nice to stay and party at the hotel as it's so lovely.

The two pools and the beach area are wonderful - beautifully kept and maintained. The staff are incredibly attentive and helpful. One day I got up to move my bed to face the sun and a gardener rushed over to do it for me before I could lift a finger. It's the same all over - the staff are such a credit to the hotel and really what make it 5-star. Every member of staff was friendly and helpful and always with a charming smile. They really helped make it a perfect holiday.

Room Tip: Definitely take a villa with a pool - it just makes it so special.

Dear signature "VP1",

Thank you very much for your extensive and very positive review of SALA Samui, - and regarding the entrance, we are happy that you liked it, as the reception could not be anything but what it is. It is a SALA. The architectural structure of a SALA is a part of the Thai heritage, and as innate to the Thai culture as the hospitality, smiles and friendliness of its people, and we are delighted to read that you also discovered that side, and on behalf of the entire team, we would be delighted to welcome you back,

Kind regards

Sala Samui is the most beautiful and relaxing holiday resort we have ever spent time at. The hotel rooms are clean and spacious and the staff cannot do enough for you. The hotel and pool villa is a very modern stye, all white and nice!

We stayed for our Honeymoon and were highly impressed with Sala Samui, it exceeded all our expectations and it was certainly tough to leave! We had a garden pool villa which had a lovely deep pool and sunbathing loungers alongside. The staff were friendly, the room and facilities exceptionally clean and there were lots of nice touches to the room and surprises during our stay. Only real down-point was that you need to go along the beach a little to swim in the sea as there is a lot of slimy seaweed in the shallow water directly in front of Sala (perhaps they could clear this out?). Highly recommend. Would definitely be back!

Room Tip: Go for a pool villa!

We stayed at the SALA for five nights. We were upgraded to a larger suite (always nice, thanks Dick). The private plunge pool is very relaxing and all the amenities are top quality. Didn't care much for the outdoor toilet or the heavy duvet on the bed.
The outdoor shower and tub are wonderful.
The restaurant is very good and we cannot say enough of the staff. From the reception to the restaurant to the pool and beachside, all the staff are friendly and helpful.
The complementary message was very relaxing and professional.
The gym is better than average for Samui.

Room Tip: use the ceiling fan with the AC. better control.

The Sala Samui resort is great for relaxed luxurous vacation. The staff is very friendly and very obliging. They know your wishes 4before you know them by yourself. We stayed in the Balcony deluxe room which was spacious and very calm. The villas have their own pool, which is nice if you want complete privacy.
The two pools are big enough for swimming (the black one) or comfortable for relaxing (the white one).
The food at the restaurant is delicious. -You have the possibility to enjoy your dinner as a "romantic dinner" directly on the beach in the sand in a light tend, decorated by flowers, candels. This is a must for lovers.
Don't miss the spa treatments. After a massage of 60 or 90min and/or a facial and the milky bath you feel like new born.
We stayed at the Sala Samui for 10 days, at the last day we were sad, that we have to leave.
We stayed at the Sala Samui for 10 days, this Resort is a very good recomendation.

My wife and I spent an absolutely fabulous 4 days at the SALA resort. Our pool suite was very private, spotlessly clean with a really fun private 1.5 metre deep pool. (Caution for those with small children who can't swim)The beach is in a bay with quiet seas and not too crowded. Staff were very helpful and always trying to please. If you are like us and want the real taste of Thai food you need to ask as dishes tend to be somewhat westernized. With many steps the facility is not handicap friendly. Loved it, we are staying longer next time.

Room Tip: The pool suites are worth the extra

I stayed in Sala Samui Resort for 4 days. We usually stay in Four Season, Six Senses or Banyan Tree. This is my 1st time visit to Samui and overall comment is good.
When we checked in found the resort is pretty small, we stayed in Sala Pool Villa and it has all we need but room is smaller than I expected.
Room is nice and we have our own quiet time mostly. One day for half morning, we found pretty annoying, a worker washed the floor with jet spray for non stop 2 hours outside our room and it was very noisy.
Our room door lock was broken, and it was repaired in 2 hours and surprisingly hotel GM gave us a bottle of champagne, very sweet though!
Breakfast is good, we tried the BBQ seafood buffet is just OK no lobster and dessert all look like homemade trials still taste good . Restaurant staff is sincere but some are not quite well trained as noticed some hardly able to hold 3 plates on their hands.
Has shuttle every hour goes to market and also has lot of restaurant choices within 10 mins walk.
Spa is comfortable. Also has some local massage on the beach which is 1/4 of price but we didn't try.

It's worth to re-visit.
