After spending 20 hrs on the planes, on transit and in the airports, all we ever wanted then was our pre-booked private room at the hostel. Unfortunately, our private 4+1 bedded ensuite room was taken by someone else despite the hostel's email confirmation we had. We were really upset about this. The staff apologized and offered us a discount of 2 euros per person for our stay for that nite (oh... big deal!!) and assured us a private room for the following 2 nites.
We were put in a 14-bedded mixed dorm on the 1st floor (same level as the bistro. The room wasn't too bad. What we could not really stand was having to stay in the same room with some stinky travellers. It was a little stuffy.
Thank God, we survived!
We had our private room the next day as promised by the management. Ours on the 4th floor facing the main street. 2 bunk beds, a small rollaway, a clean bathroom with standing shower and balcony. Condition & cleanliness - new & good. Rooms are serviced daily.
The hostel has common toilets every floor - clean and new. Most standing showers are installed with shower curtains. These curtains can be a nuisance - it blows back and sticks to your body while you shower. It can be quite annoying. The hostel should consider installing fibreglass shower screens instead to keep the bathrooms dry.
Location - bout 5 mins walk to Omonia metro station. Restaurants - just about everywhere. Supermarkets (Carrefour -Athinas St) & another one along Menandrou St - about 5 mins as well.
Monastiraki station is about 30 mins on foot from the hostel (slow to moderate speed). It's a good stroll along the way - where you can get some fresh fruits from the fruit and vege market along Athinas St.
Overall I would highly recomment this hostel for its location and rooms. It would have been perfect if our reservation was not screwed up!!
