Yes it’s not on the main tourist drag but so much the better.Looks welcoming from the outside but when you go inside with the just so lighting, friendly staff, spot on service, great drinks menu and small but excellent food menu you do think ‘wish this was round the corner from me’.
Not cheap but everything good value as the quality of food and drink is tip top.

Very nice place with good food and excellent wine, though at prices that mean you are more likely to savour every mouthful than gorge yourself.

There is a bit of a risk that you will sit close to a pretentious wine sniffer and slurper but very good to get out of the moussaka zone after a few days in Greece.

From the moment you walk into this wine bar, you can feel the positive energy of the place and the welcoming staff ready to help you find the wine of your taste and pair it with the right dishes.
There is a great variety of natural wines, which is generally hard to find, and a glass cellar full of little treasures to explore. You can even buy any bottle of the cellar you like which is amazing!

The dishes are so tasty and unique that we ordered half the menu and would repeat it gladly. Eg smoked trout with two textures of chickpeas, beef tagliatta, puree of lentils with quinoa and fresh tuna steak.
Definitely worth a visit or more!

On our arrival in Greece for the first time we decided to relax and begin to enjoy the local culture. We had booked a small group wine tasting at this place through Viator. We arrived early and our host Dennis invited us to start. After providing a plate of deli meats and cheese he began the tasting. While we both prefer red wine we really enjoyed the white varieties he started with. Nicely crisp and full bodied, they were definitely ones we would like to buy. The reds were similar to some medium bodied Italian wines we have had - not surprising given the similar climate.
One thing we learned was that the Greek producers generally do not make enough for export so we likely will not find many of these at home in the US.
All in all a pleasant evening with some nice wines.

What an awesome experience!! A group of us are here in Greece visiting (Athens, Mykonos, Santorini) and on our 2nd night in Athens did a wine tasting here. What an amazing and fun time!! The owner brought out various wines for us to taste (from whites to rosés to reds) with their nicely arranged charcuterie board. A number of us bought bottles, yes bottles of wine to go. I would highly recommend this place for groups, couples, solo, anyone that loves wine and wants to have fun sampling and learning about the wines of Greece!!

I know the place and I get to love it even more every time I visit it. The owner loves wines and knows how to explain to you what exactly you are drinking. Their amazing snack creations also make sure that the taste of the wine you are having is getting correctly pronounced. If you are in Athens and you like good wine in a nice cozy place do not forget to spend a night in Materia Prima!

We intentionally stayed in the Koukaki to be part of a neighborhood. We found that Materia Prima was within a very easy walk of where we were staying at Hotel Tony and were so happy to find it. We had the opportunity to taste a variety of Greek wines with a tasting selected by the owner. We had a small meat and cheese plate, too, that was paired with our final wine selection. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
