It takes some finding to get here but when you find it its worth it. Its just like sitting in someones lounge and the whole family is there all working away in the kitchen which you can see from your table. Service comes with a smile and even though the house wine is not the greatest the food makes up for it. This became our local restaurant while we were in athens as the food was so good.

Just fabulous! You can order a succulent plater with vegtables, tzatziki, onlons, cucumbers, tomatoes. lamb & beef and pita bread. With wine, it was wonderful! The restaurant was very busy and there is not alot of space, however, sitting outside it was great for people watching and meeting!

My friend and I went here from the AVA Hotel and found this restaurant to be charming and low-key, with friendly folks running it, and very good food. Not fancy, but a great little restaurant. We had a terrific dinner. It wasn't crowded, and it wasn't noisy. Off the beaten path a bit. It was a little chilly and there was a fire inside. There were many tables outside for when the weather is warmer. I really loved this place -- unassuming, but good.

Not for everyone perhaps but my wife and I are used to small Greek island cooking and would much prefer this taverna to anywhere else we eat in Athens. Like most reviewers we stumbled upon this gem while drifting around Plake where we were staying. In November (we were in Athens for the marathon) it was very quiet at lunchtime and by entering we doubled the amount of tourists present. There were two locals playing backgammon and a log fire burning however so it felt very Greek and very authentic.
Having decided to simplify lunch by having a set meal for two (various costs but we chose the 50 Euro) we sat back and went back in time when the half litre of inclusive wine was served in a metal jug and we were given two tumblers to drink it from.
The greek salad was authentic and four times the size that Pat had received the day before in a "posh" restaurant that served it with baby tomatoes. Calamari also as a starter to share and then zucini fritters and the advice to dip them in the tzatziki.
The main came while we were still going through the starters which also took us back in time (we now order starters on islands and then ask for the menu again to order mains) and when it came, described as "Various Fish" we were both astonished. Centre piece was a huge swordfish fillet with fish, octopus and squid all around it.
We had planned to eat at our hotel that night at the Electra Palace and were going to the posh 5th floor restaurant overlooking the Acropolis - we never made it and just about managed breakfast the following morning.

An excellent restaurant above and away from the hustle and bustle of the Plaka. We discovered Taverna Thespis on our first of three nights in Athens and had such a wonderful experience that we came back for dinner the other two nights also. The food is excellent and very reasonable, and the service is very good. Ask to be seated in the garden patio -- we happened to be there on a full-moon night and were treated to the sight of the full moon over the city on our left and the magnificent sight of the lit-up Acropolis on our right.
