“Tourist trap, but nice!”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

In Plaka you expect taverns to be tourist traps. Mostly they are, including Ta Giouvetsakia. But atmosphere was good, a sunny Easter Sunday and they attracted us with a large barbecue rotating stand with a whole lamb. They served only lamb and the request was high. The trap was inside the lunch, our lamb pieces consisted mostly of bones! But, we expected that and received the plates cheerfully.
You may try the restaurant but do not expect to much, except Plaka feeling woth tourists around.

“Not worth it”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

Having the feeling upfront that this was a tourist trap i still decided to give it a try. Me and my girlfriend had our last lunch of our Athens visit at this restaurant.

Simply put, this place contains all the ingredients for what can be called a tourist trap:

- We had tasteless souvlaki and gyros. (We ate this almost every day of this visit, and by far this restaurant had the worst meals)
- Way overpriced for what we got.
- Bad table service.

Nothing much to add, not to repeat.

“OK restaurant with sidewalk tables”
Reviewed 15 August 2013

We had lunch at this restaurant in July. It has a fairly limited menu, mostly hero's and fries. They did have souvalaki. Food was fair to mediocre. This place had very clean restrooms.

“The One Must Try Taverna On Adrianou”
Reviewed 31 July 2013

If you are a tourist strolling through the Plaka area, you will definitely come upon this restaurant. You can’t miss it. It is prominently located where Andrianou meets Afroditis, where it has been for more than 60 years.

If you walk by in the early afternoon or evening, stop there for your lunch or dinner. You won’t regret it. With its distinctive yellow walls and old school waiters, the atmosphere just screams tradition. It’s not just the atmosphere but the food as well. Don’t miss the house specialty, giouvetsaki (after which the restaurant is named), moussaka and baklava dessert.

On a personal note, one of the waiters rushed over to our table when he heard that we were from Singapore. It turns out that his brother runs a Greek restaurant in Singapore and when he told us its name, I remembered having been there before, as it is just around the corner from where we live. There was an immediate connection and we started chatting as if we were old pals. It’s that kind of place, home away from home.
