“Unforgettable traditional dinner”
Reviewed 24 May 2014

Definitely the best dinner we had in Athens. The place was very busy and we didn't book, so we started almost at midnight a warm welcome from the owners and great salad and cold dishes to stat. The main dishes including the traditional Bakaliarakia were tasteful and the best was the octopus and the shrimps. For dessert we asked for an extra dish of shrimps, and then we received the Halva and Baklava -on the house.Excellent and most recommended
On our next trip to Athens we will come again.

After re-visiting some old favourites in the first nights, we decided to try a new place. Food was ok-ish, fairly well done and economical but nothing really stood out... with so many other brilliant places to go to in Athens, it might just be difficult to come back ...

... a restaurant with a very tasty fish and without the annoying people on the street trying to convince you to come in.
... proper vegetables on the menu.
... a reasonable price for high quality.

“nice to visit once in a while”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

This is an old, authentic, Taverna, in the Plaka.
Went there for dinner, attracted by the fact that one of its specialties is cod (I am Portuguese...), and I definitely wanted to taste to local way of cooking it.
The place was full with foreigners, just like me, but I was not put off by the touristy appeal.
Started with the octopus, as a cold appetizer. Was very tender, which is not always a given, was very tasty. Main meal had to be the cod, which comes to your table in a very small plate, with a generous portion of a thick garlic sauce, more like a paste really. The cod was a bit salty for my taste, while I just tasted but then avoided the garlic sauce, which I found daunting. I would never recommend it if you are going to hang out with others.
Chose a beer - a very good Greek beer, my favorites being Alfa, which they didi not have, and Vergina, which they had - because I thought it would sit lighter in the stomach than wine, since fried cod already provides some 'weight'.
Staff were helpful and diligent.

“Subterranean gem that has stood the test of time.”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

Once you tear your gaze away from the colourful backlit ouzo bottles of Brettos' bar and spirits shop on the ground floor and look down at the simple blue door of Damigos that leads to the basement - don't hesitate. You're in for a treat so go inside. The star is the deep-fried salt cod with skordalia (olive oil mashed potato with a motherload of garlic) but everything in this simple taverna is freshly-cooked, simple and full of flavour. Octopus, Greek sausages, souvlaki and salads arrive quickly. Prices are low, wines well-chosen. Staff are efficient and friendly and the rooms are small and it's impossible not to interact with fellow diners who appear to be a mix of locals and well-informed tourists.
