“A short visit to Athens”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

We stopped at Athens while on a cruise and decided to get the X80 bus from the port to near the Acropolis and then paid (after a joining a short line) to enter - as we were a party of one adult; one 65+; two teenagers cost of entry was low (the 65+ person had to produce evidence of age and a UK driving licence was adequate). We climbed up the steps to the top -stopping along the way to admire the views and it was worth it for a short while but quite busy as tours had arrived by now.
We descended and had ice cold lemonade that actually cost us more than the entry fee.

“Great experience”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

Pay the 3 euros and go in, lots of tourists didn't when I was there but is worth it. The marble is fantastic, the stands are well worth walking around and sit to experience what it would have been like at the first olympics

“Majestic and awe-inspiring”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

What a fabulous awe-inspiring building! It's a shame the scaffolding has to stay there for so long, but I suppose that is necessary given its age and the delicate nature of restoration.

“Somewhat disappointing”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

As one of the most famous landmarks in the history of mankind, we were disappointed in what we saw. Lots of construction. In reading some of the signage, it appears that the Parthenon itself has been 'restored' so many times in the past (and according to what we read... poorly curated) that it felt as though we were looking at something far from authentic. Compared to anything we've seen in Rome or Italy generally, it fell flat. Glad we went. But no need to ever go there again.

“Ancient Wonder of the World”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

It was my childhood dream to visit Parthenon. I took Rick Steve's audio guide & book for the tour. There was too much sun...so wear sunglasses and use sun block lotion.
