This is a great hotel in an excellent location in Athens. I can't add too much to what others have already said. Clean, nice rooms, good full size bathrooms, great food, 1st class service and the whole works of what you'd expect of a hotel of this type.
Here are some tips. If your breakfast is "included" in your room price, the breakfast is served on the top floor (essentially a covered rooftop) and has an incredible view of the acropolis. If your breakfast is not included, eat there anyway as the view is great and the breakfast is phenomenal. The pastries and baked items are some of the best ever! In the evening, they turn on lights on the Acropolis and you have a great view as well... even better I think.. it's beautiful at night with the lights. The food is great and it is not super fancy (no shorts for men, but pretty loose dress code). The bar is also in same location (same view) and is also casual.
So, here's my tip. You almost certainly will eat a meal or two and or get a drink on the top floor. I do not think it is worth the $ for an "Acropolis view" room. A couple of other reviews mentioned getting an interior facing room (for the quiet) but I would strongly disagree. We had a view of the Parliament and the room was very quiet (no problems from street noise at all... ) and it was VERY special to watch the changing of the guards and the activities at Parliament from the room. Also just watching the crazy drivers and the pedrestrians who try to elude them:) wow! We had a 6th floor room which had a balcony. The balcony was very nice.
A first class hotel with first class sevice, a great downtown location, and all of the amenities that you would expect.

Room Tip: I think exterior room facing the Parliament is the best bet. You will see the Acropolis plenty from...

This is a very luxurious hotel in a very convenient location in central Athens. Our room was located facing the courtyard, which was fortunate because the room was quiet at night. Rooms facing the street side would be subject to the street noise from the constant heavy traffic. The lobby is opulent and spacious. Checkin was efficient. The staff is friendly and accommodating- especially in the restaurants. They accommodated our request for breakfast on a very early checkout by providing us with complimentary breakfast boxes, with continental breakfast ingredients. Only minor quip- Internet access was not complimentary. Overall, though, this was a nice beginning to our Greece vacation.

Room Tip: Court facing rooms may not have street views but they are quiet.

We had planned our trip to Greece and wanted to quickly get through Athens on our way to the Islands. Booked the Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens. The stay was fabulous. Service was wonderful but the views were the highlight. From our room we could see The Acropolis and the Changing of the Guard at the Parliament buildings

This hotel is beautiful and centrally located. We truly enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were lovely and we were placed on the butlers floor. The restaurant on the rooftop is good and has an incredible view of the Acropolis. The staff was not as friendly as I would have expected for a hotel of this caliber but they were fine. It just did not feel like you were made to feel special. The hotel manager was great as they sent a bottle of champagne to our room upon arrival as we were there for a special occasion.

A perfect location in central Athens. Everything including a rooftop pool. A 5 minute walk to the Agora and Plaka and 100's of restaurants. This is one of the most reasonable cities with great weather through October. You can drive to virtually all of mainland Greece within 3 hrs.

We booked two nights before boarding our Seabourn cruise, our suite was a junior suite with courtyard views ,we choose this suite as we wanted a peaceful night’s sleep, we also had the services of a butler, our room was of a nice size with period decor, very clean from top to bottom, there is also a roof top swimming pool a little small but suitable for a cooling dip, there is also food and bar service available, the only problem we found is there is not much space between the sun loungers we felt like a beached sea lions.

We had booked a table for dinner on the roof top restaurant and our table had lovely views across to the Acropolis and Parliament buildings, we enjoyed the food and wine together with the service.
On retiring to bed we were awoken at 4am by somebody above our suite on the above floor walking backwards and forwards for around thirty minutes but we did eventually fall back to sleep.
The following day I decided to book a table again for dinner knowing that many Seabourn passengers would be staying here that very night and the restaurant would be very busy, the booking of the table was through our butler which he confirmed for 7pm, upon entry to the roof top restaurant we were told a table had not been booked but we could have a table for ninety minutes only as the restaurant was fully booked, the service that evening was too quick we did not enjoy the experience, and again when retiring to bed we had the same guest at 4am walking above our suite but this time the noise was worse it sounded like they were running.

Our final morning was a disaster after arriving for breakfast at 8.30am the restaurant was packed, we were told we could take breakfast downstairs in the Winter garden which was also another disaster, we ordered orange juice and cereal followed by smoked salmon and scrambled egg, the order took forty minutes to arrive but the smoked salmon and scrambled egg arrived first but was cold and then our fruit juice and cereal.

The Grande Bretagne is a very impressive building but the hotel fails badly when at full capacity, the service becomes nonexistent, our experience was reported to reception on the sixth floor but we only got an apology for the butler not booking our table.

We stayed 3 nights at the Grande Bretagne and highly recommend this hotel!

It is superbly located right on Constitution Square and hence walking distance to the city centre, Plaka etc. The hotel itself is absolute luxury. The rooms and bathrooms are beautifully furnished. Facilities such as the pool and gym are fantastic as well. They have like a separate concierge to the gym area who provide you with a locker, robes, flip flops. You can also enjoy ice lemon tea or hot drinks after your work out :)

The restaurant on the top floor is really really good. We ate there twice as the food is superb and you can enjoy amazing views of the Parthenon at night. Breakfast is served at the same restaurant and the spread is amazing; really fresh pastries, local cuisine and even a dessert selection! Also, on the last morning, we had to leave way before breakfast started to go to Mykonos and they packed us all individual breakfast boxes, inclusive of coffee (you have to ask for the coffee but they do it!).

Staff were all very friendly and professional. They take the pains to explain everything to you from the first time you enter your room to any where you go in the hotel.

In summary, easily the best hotel I have had the good fortune to stay at (and I have experienced quite a few of equal class in France and Italy). Everything is such a pleasant experience from the staff to the facilities. Highly recommend !!!
