“Phenomenal!”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

GB is definitely a class of its own. I stayed there last week with my wife and 2 years old son. We were upgraded to a suite on one of their dedicated floors with butler service. The suite was huge with 2 x balconies and 2 x LCD TVs, one for the living room and the other for the bedroom. They had already placed a crib inside the room. It's location and proximity to all attractions within walking distance is impressive. They had evening turn down services. We had flower bouquet in our room (we celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary during our stay there) and fruit basket and mineral water replenished on daily basis. Lavish buffet breakfast was served at the roof top restaurant with stunning views of the Acropolis and the Parliament. My wife had to ask for hot water in a flask she carried to prepare milk for our son only the first day and the remaining days the restaurant staff just took it from her and refilled. They have friendly and courteous staff, always with a smile on their face, I'm sure they might be enjoying their jobs as much as we enjoyed our stay there! The guys at the concierge gave precise information, they were like a refined search engine. Exceptional service standards, renaissance architecture and luxury makes GB a class of its own. If you are planning to visit Athens, GB is the place to stay. We have memories we will cherish for a life time!

Room Tip: We stayed in suite on a dedicated butler service floor. If you look out of the balcony, you have stu...

We had booked this room for two nights at the beginning of the trip and one night at the end.
The complains: A very Grand old hotel, but like all of them this too had attitude problems. We booked a room which hotels.com showed could sleep 3 people, so obviously it would be big, but when we were given the room, it was tiny, there was literally little space to open our bags.
The second time around when we checked in the same category of rooms, surprisingly the room size was huge, though it was unserviced and dirty. They simply took the key back and offered another one without so much as an apology, which I found strange.. Then they forgot to give us turndown service at night.. for which we made sure they came and did it at 10pm at night.
Now for the good part:
The rooftop restaurant had breathtaking views of both the city as well as the acropolis, and the breakfast spread was one of the best I've seen.
The concierge team was very efficient and prompt, and extremely helpful.
The location was just perfect, right at the syntagma square and walkable from most places where you'd want to go in Athens. The underground metro station is just outside the hotel.
Only the lobby had free wi-fi, and the business center was complimentary.

Room Tip: Don't go for a good view, go for a good size..

Just the most gorgeous hotel we have stayed in! We came over to Athens for a wedding at this hotel, and loved being there.

The roof top has an amazing view and eating breakfast while staring at the acropolis was one of the highlights.

Out room was a decent size, although not a lot of room to store our 6 weeks traveling worth of luggage. Also no PowerPoint in the bathroom for anything other than a shaver - but we have found this in most places through Europe.

Will be coming here again.

Loved the hotel and it's location. The 8th floor restaurant and bar have one of the best views in town. My only complaints are that you have to pay for wifi (you think they would include it for what they charge). You can access free wifi in the lobby but it's not as convenient. Also the staff in the 8th floor bar and restaurant were less than friendly. Everyone else we talked to was extremely friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: We had a first floor street view and slept great. Wasn't too noisy (our 2.5 year old slept sound...

Prestigious location. Not very practicable for the business traveller. Probably OK as a tourist wanting a taste off home.

Small rooms; insufficient charging plugs; poor plumbing but good front desk and dining service.

Excellent view of Acropylis. Great for a drink.

Food is overpriced and bland.

Just spent a night at this lovely hotel. The location is excellent, within walking distance (10 minutes) of the Acropolis and museum. There a shopping area next to the hotel with lots of choice, shops, cafes bars and restaurants.
As we were spending just one night we stayed in their 'basic' classic room; quite small but beautifully decorated, very clean, comfy beds and a largish bathroom with a spacious walk in shower and separate bath. Loads of fluffy towels too. No view as the room faced an inner courtyard, although this was made clear when I booked.
We had a drink in the bar just off the lobby, lunch by the pool on the 7th floor and dinner in the rooftop restaurant with amazing views of the Acropolis. The service was excellent, the food great, if a little expensive and everyone was really friendly and helpful. Nothing to fault really but I have some small gripes. I had requested two single beds and arrived to a king bed, this always seems to happen to me. Also there was no information at all in the room about the facilities in the hotel, just a room service menu. I think this is very odd and really remiss. From a sign in the lift we knew there was a restaurant on the 8th floor and so went there for information. Also they charge for WiFi. Our room was just over 300 euros, without breakfast, charging extra for WiFi is a bit cheeky. However the WiFi was excellent. Nonetheless I will definitely go back to this hotel next time I am in Athens.

Room Tip: The classic rooms are ok for a couple of nights but I think paying a bit extra for a room with a vie...
