“Adequate at Best”
Reviewed 2 July 2012

Stayed here on the front and back end of a trip to Crete. The rooms are on the small side and a bit dated and air conditioning didn't work well in either of the rooms. Stayed in the Acropolis view side of the hotel so the sun is pretty intense in the afternoon. The maids really should close the drapes to keep the rooms cooler, but they open everything up after making up the rooms. On our second stay, we returned to the hotel in the evening to find the power out. Had to take a service elevator to our room and navigate a dark hallway. That evening we had no air, tv, Internet, etc. If I managed that hotel I would have been up all night writing apology letters to the guests. But instead on check out the staff treated it like it was business usual. Would definitely stay elsewhere if I come back to Athens.

Dear Sir,

Many thanks for taking the time to post your feedback regarding your recent stay at the Hilton Athens.

We were concerned to note that your generic impression of your visit was not positive. Please accept our sincere apologies for this.

All your commens have been discussed with my colleagues in order to take appropriate action where needed.

In reference to the power out during your second stay, we feel sorry for the inconvenience caused. In cooperation with the Public Electricity Company we had to perfom an electricity system maintenance and unfortunately this was something we could not avoid. Informative letters had been placed in all guestrooms advising our guests.

Do hope you will give us another opportunity to welcome you back and prove that what you experienced was only an isolate incident.

Kind regards,

The rap on this hotel has been that its a Metro stop away from the old standbys at Syntagma Square. However, in hot weather this hotel is sensational. You can knock off at 5 PM and relax by the pool for a couple of hours before your typically late dinner. If with children, you can get out and sightsee until 1 or 2, have lunch and hit the pool. Rooms and service are excellent...only downside is outrageous Internet fees if you are not Hilton gold to get them waived.

Room Tip: High floor facing the Acropolis...great view.

Excellent service and classic Hilton services. I had a fantastic acropolis view and trully enjoyed my stay. Galaxy bar on the roof top is amongst the best in Athens with excellent clientele. Maybe the best accommodation choice in Athens. Away from any protests it is located in the centre yet not within the action. Full access to tube, taxis and buses. I said that in many of my other Athens reports now it is the best time to visit Greece and Athens as the Greek crises lowered the rates and you can find amazing packages either from tour operators or via the hotels direct. Try the Hilton in Athens and it will be a safe, luxurious and fun choice! Will definately visit again and I would highly reccomend it!!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for about a week. If you expect high class service in Greece, this is one of the only places you can safely expect to find it.

The women on the executive floor were exceptionally accomodating.

We arrived at the front desk and were sent to check in with the executive level concierge on the 12th floor. (I'm Hilton Gold, had booked an Acropolis view room on points, but we were treated as well as if we were cash guests.)

Our room wasn't ready yet and we were invited to wait in the lounge where we had a roll and coffee. After about an hour, we were given our room keys. The concierge had already called bell services to have our bags delivered.

The room was spacious with a great view, easily controlled HVAC, and was comfortable. The bathroom had a seperate deep tub and shower, toilet cubicle behind the shower (good, because the glass wall between the bedroom and bathroom is not 100% private--traveling with my husband it wasn't a problem, however had I been traveling with a friend or associate it would have been uncomfortable) and ample counter space alongside the sink. The towels were large but not fluffy. Waffle robes and slippers were provided.

Bell services arrived and gave a tour of the room, showing us how to use the sliding door, and cautioning that the mini-bar was electronic and would charge if we moved anything. They were excellent.

The flat screen TV was small with limited channels in English, but it was expected and we got BBC World and CNN World, so we were fine. (it might have had El Jazeera English as well, can't recall for sure)

We had twice daily maid service, and that evening when we returned we found a bottle of wine and small bowl of fruit as a welcome gift--a nice touch.

The area around the hotel was a bit loud due to a hospital being adjacent and it being on a major street, but we were never bothered by noise as long as the door was closed. The Metro station was half a block away, and there was a bus stop across the street as well. The metro was very clean, fast, and efficient, and we used that to get around.

Dinner our first night at the rooftop restaurant was very good in terms of food and service, and the view was stunning. It was very, very windy, but the staff made the best of it.

We had breakfast both days in the lounge, but be warned, they only bring out just so much, and when things run out they don't replace them, regardless of how many people are still trying to eat. Only one morning there were eggs left, and I took what was left which was half an order--the pan was never replaced. I can't really complain for free, but if I had purchased the upgrade I would have been angry about the situation.

The only other problem we encountered was at the pool. We arrived around 3:00 pm on a Sunday afternoon and it was crowded. We were able to find two loungers together and settled in. It took over an hour of trying to get a waiter to come take a drink order and bring menus. When we finally flagged one down, we asked for a menu and he turned around and left without taking a drink order. He never returned with the menu. We waited and 25 minutes later we flagged down another waiter. he brought a menu but it took another 15 minutes for him to return to take our order. Then it took 45 minutes to have half our order delivered, he forgot our drinks and brought no ketchup or salt for our burger. While we ate unsalted fries and our burger went cold, 10 minutes later he arrived with the condiments and forgotten drinks. We never did get the glasses of water we requested.

I would return back to the Hilton again, but would never count on getting lunch at the pool, that experience was pitiful at best, and is the sole reason that I didn't rate this hotel Very Good or Excellent.

After seeing it take forever for other guests to get checked in/out at the front desk I was dreading the experience, but in fact it was pleasant and efficient and took about three minutes, mostly because I choose to settle with leftover Euros rather than putting the incidentals on my AmEx.

Room Tip: It's worth it to book an Acropolis view room on a higher floor.

We spend a few days in Athens for bussiness/ vacation and the hotel was excellent. The staff was not as polite as I am used too but the swiming pool, the hardwood flooring in the rooms as well as the breakfast was super. Awesome view of Acropolis, too
