“CHECK YOUR BILL CAREFULLY”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2010

Nice business hotel but be cautious and check your bill. I pre-paid the hotel costs in full for two nights when I had booked on line. When checking out the person on the desk insisted that I had only paid for one night and would not hear otherwise, despite my showing him the hotel voucher. The manager was called and all in all this was both stressful and time consuming as I had to leave promptly for the airport. It took them quite a while to determine the correct bill. They also tried to charge me additional taxes that had been enforced after I had paid and made the booking. Plus for a business hotel, there was no free internet, 5mins cost 5 Euros!

Dear Guest

Thank you for choosing the Hilton Athens for your recent stay in the city and for taking the time to bring the issue with your bill to our attention.

As you probably understand, issues that have to do with billing, payments and especially prepayments are very sensitive, as personal data are used (such as credit card details) and need to be solved very carefully and after thorough investigation. We understand the inconvenience that a delay upon check out may cause, however there are certain steps that we are obliged to follow in order to avoid further inconveniences.

Once again, thank you for choosing the Hilton Athens; we do look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Our room was relatively large, modern and clean. Lovely view. Staying on concierge level definitely worth the extra money. Free drinks and snacks all day, plus good continental breakfast and evening light meal. Gym was very welkl equiped and clean, and free of you are on concierge level. Main drawbacks are not as centrally located as hotels on Syntagma Square for similar price, and internet access is outrageous 23 Euros for 24 hours or 11 per hour!
Going up to Galaxy Bar is a must to see the Acropolis light up at night. Paid 20 Euros for a single malt scothc, but the view was priceless.

Easter weekend was spent in Hilton Athens. On check in i was advise that i have to go to 11th floor as we got an upgrade to Executive Level. First surprise (for a lack of a better word a white lie) was when i asked for a room with a view of Acropolis - sorry i was told, those rooms are reserved for smoker's only so we got a mountain view on the 10th floor which is NON SMOKING FLOOR! Executive lounge - munchies for desert and late snack are not bad, however morning selection was same all 3 nights we spent at the hotel Selection was WAY TOO Continental. When asked if one perhaps can get an omlett or something hot we were told SORRY NO, WE CAN NOT BRING IT FROM DOWNSTAIRS - why - Berlin Hilton Delivers warm orders, London does, Paris does it and so does Warsaw - what's the exception here especially for premium customers (not trying to be a snob here, but u catch my drift). Room was nice and clean, but when one walks in and wants to drink u find a 1l of water sitting on the desk with a label that i can do so for 6Euro. The complimentary bottle, that is customary to executive level room was hidden all the way in the back right above the fridge behind a tea cattle - how nice. Bed was hard as a rock (not typical Comfort Bed of Hilton) and pillows and bed spread, ok good for people with allergies, but were filler with synthetic material and sleeping on it was less relaxing. When asked for a feather pillow, i got one filled with compressed cotton. In one word - on scale of 1 to 10 - hotel is 9, executive level same scale breakfast was 4, rest was 8 and room was 7. And last but not least - NO Business Center and/or Free Internet Access in the Business Lounge - come on people - with rooms starting at 200Euro per night, i think u wount go bankrupt if u spend 500Euro on a PC and connect it to the internet! For that i give you 0 points. Overall i would rate my experience as 6.5, can do better!!! Hilton Athens has potential!

My partner and I arrived at the Hilton Hotel and were pleasantly surprised with the decor and furnishing of the hotel. We've stayed in a few Hiltons that have been a little run down but this looked new, fashionable and had some very nice touches (such as a marble all through the bathroom, monsoon shower and a very modern design). The room was of a decent size with a balcony overlooking the pool and Acropolis in the distance. The bathroom was big (including a bath separate shower cubicle and space left over). The staff were reasonably friendly (although we did meet a receptionist who did make you feel that asking anything was hassling her).

The problem with Hilton in Athens (and this is pretty much a problem with most Hiltons) is that doing anything but sleeping will cost you more. In Athens case, it will cost you A LOT more. We were lucky enough to find an offer online that make the room 110 euros a night including breakfast, but I can only imagine how disappointed you would be if you paid over 200 euros a night to find that the breakfast would cost an additional 34 euros per person per day! The pool and gym costs an additional 15 euros each per day; mineral water costs 6.75 euros; a tube of Pringles costs 11.5 euros (YES 11.5 euros for Pringles!); cocktails in the beautiful Galaxy bar cost a minimum of 20 euros.

Overall, the Hilton is a really nice, modern hotel. But if you don't buy breakfast as a part of the package you will pay an extortionate price. Having to pay extra to do anything (and especially the prices that this Hilton charges) leaves a sour taste in your mouth. Other 5* hotels I have been to have been more than happy to charge a little more but give you access to as much as you would like.

The Hotel itself is great. Room is very nice. Hotel is clean.American breakfast was great. Very nice place to stay. The hotel is not located exactly in one of the places you would visit but it is a walking distance from Syntagma square or one Metro station to ride while there is a close Metro station to the hotel. If you like quite places not far from the center it is defently the place for you. If you like to walk out from the Hotel and see immediately the place you came to visit you might want to take another hotel.

I read many of the reviews and booked this with some trepidation. I found none of the negatives. The hotel is grand in an austere fashion, the staff is excellent and well trained, the food at the small restaurant is great, and at Milos' even better (though both are quite pricey).

Our rooms paid at the lowest available prepaid rate were excellent with very comfortable beds, and one of the best / nicest hotel bathrooms I've experienced.

The indoor pool is fantastic, as are the other spa/gym facilities (there's a $15 per person charge for use of the "pool/spa") which include steam and dry sauna, locker rooms, full gym with elliptical and treadmills and weights as well as a "health bar" with fruit and juices.

The hotel is about a 20-30 minute walk from the Acropolis, and we found walking to / from the hotel very easy.

The hotel is also within easy walking distance to several excellent restaurants, including "Code Blue" which I recommend.

If there is anything to "ding" it's the tiny TV sets in the rooms -- tiny 17 inch LCD panels, but hopefully you're not in Athens to watch TV.

Wifi is €23/day.

I stayed at the Hilton when I had travelled down to Athens with a group of friends.
It is a nice hotel set in a quiet part of Athens, well away from the old part of Athens which can get quite noisy at times.
Getting to any part of the city is not a problem from the Hilton as the nearby metro station is quite convenient.
Overall a very comfortable stay with good food.......... would definately stay there again during my next visit to Athens
