The Hilton is an extremely nice hotel in terms of cleanliness, facilities and services. The rooms were clean and spacious, the pool was large and refreshing, and the entire staff was amazing... but, unfortunately, EVERYTHING at the hotel is pricy!

The hotel is priced for business travelers with expense accounts they aren't personally responsible to pay for. Room service, spa services and laundry services are insultingly expensive. And if you order anything from the (rooftop) Galaxy Restaurant you might as well take out a bank loan (I'm not penurious, but I find charging $24 for a Cosmopolitan to be both ridiculous and insulting!).

The location is not located near anything you might want to see - everything is a tedious walk or a taxi ride away. And while you will almost always find a taxi ready to be hailed in front of the hotel, you will be fortunate to avoid being ripped off by every third cab driver (a 6 euro ride on the meter will often be quoted at 10 or 12 euro).

Like I said, this would be a great place for the business traveler, but I simply cannot give it a thumbs up for vacationers, especially couples or families who are budget conscious (you don't have to be cheap to find the costs exorbitant, you simply need a little common sense to find this place troublesome).

Sorry, Hilton, but I have to give you a thumbs down for anyone other than the business person who gets to turn in their receipts for a full reimbursement.

This large hotel appears to be the main hotel for the local business community, due to its central location and extensive facilities.

The rooms were refurbished in 2003 to a modern style which has aged well, and are spacious and airy, with quite luxurious bathroom with separate showers. The balconies are a plus, although the area is quite noisy due to traffic. Some of the rooms face the Acropolis, but are priced higher, which may not be worth it as the distance is great.

The executive lounge is spacious and has great views; it appears to have cut back on its food compared to a previous stay and now only serves continental breakfast.

Public transportation near the hotel is fair: the airport bus can be made to stop nearby and there is a subway station across the street. The taxis waiting at the hotel are nicer vehicles with honest if not especially friendly drivers.

Beware! this hotel's facilities are pleasant and typical of international Hiltons, but be aware that local calls cost 1 euro PER MINUTE and if you call someone's cell phone it is 5 euros per minute. This is excessive! In addition don't count on a free fitness center, using the rather small budget class fitness center will set you back 15 euros per day, (though as management pointed out they serve juice and coffee and thus must charge 15 euros per day). Daily internet is 23 euros per day - again excessive! In-hotel restaurants are very expensive, but I expect that - I don't expect to pay 25 euros for a 5 minute call to a colleague's cell phone. What bothers me most was management's indifference. And finally, review your bill carefully as I was charged for services I did not consume.

Dear Guest
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the Hilton Athens.
As we have mentioned on previous responses to guests' reviews, we keep our prices in the same level as other properties of the same category.
However your comment about "management indifference" is somehow unfair, as the Hotel Management value all our guests' feedback. It is via these comments that we see where we are doing well and where we need to improve our services and facilities.
With regards to the charges on your bill of items that you did not consume, we would like to remind you that every guest that checks out at the Front Desk is asked to verify that the charges posted on their bill are correct, and if not, investigation is taking place immediately. We do not charge our guests for services not used or items not consumed, under any circumstances!
Once again, thank you for your valuable feedback.

The Hilton Athens is an excellent option in Athens, as long as you take the Executive Lounge option. As a gold member, we were upgraded for free to the Executive Lounge level (lounge is on Floor 11). I understand this hotel charges around $30 per day per room for non-HH members and couples should give this consideration. The lounge has many options for breakfast (few hot dishes, but many cold options) and a spread during the afternoon and evening as well as free-flowing alcoholic beverages. The view of the Acropolis is beautiful during any time of day.

The rooms are rather modern, with wood floors and IKEA type furniture. However, the one real problem I had was the glass wall in the bathroom! There is no privacy afforded in that room and it's really quite funny that a hotel would design this sort of bathroom.

This hotel is about 5 minute walk from the metro station and near a very pretty park. It was quite convenient as well to the tourist bus. We only walked by the restaurants in the back of the hotel, but did not eat at any of them. They would be a better option than dining at the hotel's very expensive restaurants.

We stayed at this hotel for a couple of days earlier this month, and although the facilities were lovely, we did feel that a lot of the "extras" were very expensive. As another reviewer has already noted, prices of drinks both at the bar and in the mini-bar in the room are astronomical. Whist I appreciate this is a luxury hotel, and I've seen from the comments by the hotel that they feel their pricing is in line with the local market/competition, I think it is important for guests to know what they are getting. Even the internet access costs money - but other hotels I've stayed in (of all grades) generally now include that for free!

The location is great, the rooms were beautiful and the breakfast was plentiful. Just watch out for your bill at the end!
