From the moment you enter the Hotel, you catch the tone of the staff - the bellman is huffing and puffing so much, we decided we would be better off taking the luggage to the room ourselves. This was not as easy as it might seem, since, after levying the elevator, one has to descend 10 steps - an unusual and terrible design feature. On entering the room, one notices it is very small and the decor is terribly drab. The floor is made of some cheap synthetic, is bouncy and rising up in places. First impressions were poor. We heard from other guests that some rooms have no window.
The hallmark of this hotel is the wonderful view of the Acropolis from its 6th floor restaurant. Thanks to a Greek law that forbids skyscrapers around the Acropolis, the view from Lycabettus Hill, particularly at night, is romantic. However, it took only a few seconds for the romantic spell to be broken by the boorish, heavy set man who is the person who greets you as you enter the bar area. He was downright rude and off-hand. When we said we wanted to order a drink from the bar he claimed that the restaurant was fully booked and this might be a problem. When we mentioned that we had a reservation and wanted to have a drink at the bar first, he strongly suggested we might want to go and sit at a table. We held our ground and sat at the bar. We ordered two of the house special martinis, which were good but cost an exorbitant $18 each!!! - so much for Greece's economic woes! We spent about 45 minters on our drinks and during that time not one solitary person came in to the dining room. So much for the assertion that the restaurant was fully booked.
The next morning we had breakfast. We tried the scrambled eggs which were cold. The restaurant staff had forgotten to light the burner under the hot plate.
This is a poorly run hotel that has rude staff, exorbitant prices for food and drink and generally looks run down.
