St George Lycabettus Hotel
Ranked #66 of 282 Hotels in Athens
Reviewed 16 March 2014

The hotel is anything else, but 5 stars. Location is good. Quiet neighborhood in the city downtown. I was told it is the inner city place where rich people live. The hotel is located on the second highest hill in Athens. One should walk 10 minutes to the closest public transport. However I do not think public transport is necessary to go sightseeing main tourist attractions. The area has very nice restaurants, but be aware that they are not with Greek cuisine. If you like to try nice Greek food, go to Psiri.
The hotel itself is moderate and could be considered for short stay.
Yes, there are rooms with view of Acropolis, but my room was overlooking inner space, surrounded only by walls and with very annoying noise, probably from the hotel's air-conditioning system. The noise was a problem for me, as I like to sleep at open windows. The room had ashtray and I was told I could smoke inside. I am not a smoker and did not like the smell in the room. Room without a balcony. Linen was clean, but the towels were grey in colour. Pillows were comfortable.
The staff was nice and friendly.
The restaurant serving the breakfast has a really nice view of the city and Acropolis. I did not try the swimming pool and the gym.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms overlooking the inner yard. They do not have balcony as well.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review on trip advisor. Please allow me to address the points you highlight. The hotel is indeed located in the most exclusive area of the city. Our range of rooms and suites is described in detail on our website - the interior rooms are comfortable and spacious with no balcony and are sold at lower rates than those with Acropolis view and private balcony. During booking, we are always delighted to accommodate extra requests such as non-smoking rooms. Our highly trained staff are at your disposal to offer directions and advice as well as taverna or restaurant recommendations; we are also available to address any issues you may have during your stay to allow you the best service possible. We hope this assures you of our commitment to each valued guest,
Kindest regards,
The Management Team

We were suggested by few local friends who new (but did not stay in) and read good feedback BUT :

Central location but up on the Lycabettus hill, not good for ladies with heels who wants to walk down town for a late afternoon / evening drink!

I was "upgraded" to a room with view! Well you need to go out in the balcony, put your head out and have good eyes to see a view! Still I was lucky as my friend stayed undergroung, in a room overlooking at a wall !!!

My room was no smoking, with an ashtray in room and smelling so bad!

Although I requested and was confirmed & paid for a king bed, i found two twin beds put together and made me believe & pay for a king bed room!

Not to mention about the noise, bad hygene and friendly (!) personnelle !!!

Room Tip: choose another hotel!

Dear guest Curcinya,
Thank you for posting your review on trip advisor. Each and every guest's feedback is important to us.
The hotels location is considered to be unique as it is located in one of the chicest and safest quarters of Athens , surrounded by green and within 20 min walking distance of most of the cities major attractions .The rooms and suites of the hotel are checked daily for hygiene and maintenance. We offer a range of room types at various rates to suit a variety of pockets. The hotel employs a continuous and unobtrusive refurbishment program which allows us to offer a high standard of comfort in our welcoming rooms therefore we were more than happy to upgrade your standard room reservation to a room with a view. We are always happy to deal with any special requests our valued guests may have to assure everyone of an enjoyable and relaxing stay however we were not informed that you requested a non smoking room.
We hope this assures you of our commitment to each and every valued guest and we hope that you will choose us again in the future to assure you of our commitment to producing a quality hospitality product.
Kind regards,
The Management Team

My husband and I have recently returned from a trip to Athens staying in this hotel for a few nights. It is advertised as a 5 star hotel but it certainly isn't. On check in, although efficient did not offer us any further information about where we were staying. A quick overview of the map of Athens and places that would be of interest would have been beneficial and would have saved us valuable time looking around for places of interest, eat, drink etc. There was also a march on when we arrived in Athens and this was rather unnerving as we didn't know whether it was peaceful or not. Hoteliers have a duty to ensure guests are fully informed of local events that might impact on their stay and this was an opportunity missed. The room we stayed in although advertised as a standard should still be 5 star and it certainly wasn't. The shower was dirty as the massage jets had not been fully cleaned. The hairdryer in the bathroom worked for 30 seconds and overheated and therefore cut out and the room itself didn't have the wonderful views described on the website. In fact the website led you to believe you were staying in a hotel that was far better than it actually is. Breakfast is varied, with Greek cheeses and delicacies and was good to be able to try a range of delicacies from the native country but if you are looking for a typical English breakfast, you will not find that here. Prices of drinks varied depending on who served you and as we sat and enjoyed the views from the Sky bar of the Acropolis which were wonderful, several Greek people enjoyed far greater attention than we did when they dined there. A 5 star experience should make everyone feel as valued as everyone else and this didn't feel the case. Alas we did not return to the Sky Bar after this experience. However one young waitress with long dark hair is worthy of a mention as she was very polite and friendly and appreciated my efforts to speak the language.

Choosing Saint George Lycabettus for our wedding reception made the entire day come together in the most amazing way. The hotel staff help us smoothly plan our special day providing all information and options in advance, taking care of all agreed details and always being at our side giving us solutions so us to make this day special for us. At the wedding reception the staff was extra attentive to all of our needs and treated us and our guests, with warmth. The food and sweets were praised by all guests and of course the Grand Balcon with its magnificent view of Athens as well as the decoration of the room, provided a unique experience for everyone there. If we had to do it again we wouldn’t change a thing.

I've stayed in this hotel twice in the last years time and must say it's only adequate. The rooms are a bit old and need to be updated. The internet (Wifi) in the rooms is slow and the cell service in the rooms is very weak. Staff is friendly and attentive. Bathrooms are clean and updated. Beds are a bit stiff and carpet is old. The windows are large and open which lets in a wonderful breeze. T.V. channel selection is limited as well. Overall it's adequate for a quick stay but not for a luxurious and hotel adventure. Location is superb.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing out! Every view of Athens is beautiful
