“A "must-stay-here" for couples wanting romance in Athens”
Reviewed 14 November 2013

The hotel had an excellent small breakfast--the staff will cook you eggs and bacon, so just ask!
We had the jacuzzi suite on top, and (while expensive) it was amazing! We had views of all Athens, including the Parthenon at a distance.
The rooms were very luxurious with a moveable television and blinds, a huge bathroom with a nice shower, and a big ole comfy bed!
A pleasant perk was their agreement with a local gym, that was excellently outfitted and included an interior 20m pool.
The location was very convenient--both for getting around town and out to the airport.

The Periscope Hotel in Kolonaki was a wonderful experience! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The daily breakfast was superb, as was the staff (thanks Katarina) in the restaurant! My only wish is that the menus for lunch and dinner would be improved, as I would have loved to dine there for these meals as well. However, given the limited menu, the restaurant is unfortunately empty except at breakfast. Cleaning staff did a fantastic job. One other minor thing to note, the electronics in the room need updating or at least to have all the remotes in working order with fresh batteries. Overall, fantastic experience and I would return in a second if ever back in Athens!

Room Tip: The breakfast is excellent, so if you can get a good rate including breakfast, then make sure to boo...

This is a small, good value, hip hotel in a gorgeous area. It was clean, with nice linen, great shower pressure and a great breakfast. What we liked the most though were the friendly staff. The concierge could not have been more welcoming and sorted us out a fantastic day poolside at a sister hotel. Really recommend Kolonaki as a base to explore the city. Surrounded by cool neighbourhood bars and restaurants, the guard changing at the parliament and Ermou shopping street is just 5 mins away, and the Acropolis an easy walk.

Room Tip: ones at the back of the hotel are probably a bit quieter.

Periscope is hidden in a small one way alley easily overlook. There are car parked illegally along the alley resulting any car other than smart car will have to drive over the banks of the road onto the pedestrian path so be careful if you are driving there especially on weekdays. If going by cab, please make sure you have the street name right as my taxi driver cannot locate the hotel via the hotel name using his GPS.

Front Office staffs are helpful and friendly but not so for some of the restaurant staffs. I guess she was working very long hours as she got furious when we help ourselves in getting plates when we fed up waiting for her as she was clearing other unseated tables or maybe she was racist, hopefully not.

Room and bathrooms are tiny but is functional. Just functional do not expect more.

It was noisy during our stay because of the construction in progress opposite the hotel. I was surprised that the hotel did not warn us about this.

No swimming pool and fitness center in the hotel.

Pros:
1) Walking distance to Mt. Lycabettus and many good restaurants, bars, delis, fruits stalls and groceries stores.

2) Very good quality breakfast although the selection is small. Nice coffee and i cannot get enough of their sashimi grade smoked salmon.

3) Nice and clean bed with nice mattress and free wifi. You will consider this real luxuries when you cannot get complimentary drinking water in room..

Cons:
1) No water boiler for making coffee or tea. No complimentary bottled water, not even one. The one in the mini fridge is selling at 2 euro each which i can get for 50 cents at downstairs kioks. Paid almost 300 euros for the room per night and they still have to do this trick.

2)There is only stairs to the entrance. Try to travel light to this hotel or get the taxi driver to carry it in for you.

3) Curtains is not user-friendly. It is electronic and unpredictable. We closed it once and can never open it again..Unnecessary headache due to poor maintenance. We just glad it was closed rather than opened during our 3 nights of stay.

4) Bathroom is very small. Toilet is just next to the door and our door cannot be fully closed. Embarrassing to use when you have sick stomach.

5) Bathroom is not really cleaned. Dead mosquito smashed by someone/something onto the wall with its blood staining the wall tiles. The toiletries were opened and almost emptyl, which i think were used by the previous guest. Nasty.

Overall, i would not recommend this to people looking for quality accommodation. Pay a few bucks more and stay near Sytagma Square which you will get much more in return.

We stayed here for four nights. We had a terrible job finding the hotel as it's tucked away in a side street. It was only with the help of Google maps that we actually reached it and we regularly got lost returning in the evenings. There are a lot of nice restaurants nearby and we felt quite safe wandering around after dark.
The room was of a good size for a city hotel with a large comfortable bed and a sizeable bathroom with a good shower and thick towels. The staff were helpful and pleasant. However the handle on the bathroom door was loose, and only attached to the door at the top and the wash basin had a thin crack in it. There wasn't a lot the hotel could do about this during our stay so we didn't bother to complain. However it wasn't something I would expect in a hotel of this calibre.
We were on a bed & breakfast basis and in other hotels we've stayed in, the continental breakfasts have been plentiful but all that was on offer at the self serve bar were 3 mini croissants, 3 mini pain au chocolate and three pieces of cheese, meat, salmon in addition to the usual youghurt and cereals. Eggs were also available. The food was regularly replenished but only 3 of each item were put out at a time so we didn't ever get a satisfactory breakfast. This isn't something I would expect in a hotel rated as 5*. We enjoyed our stay
but I think that it was overpriced for what we actually got for our money.

I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights on a trip to Athens. I traveled by train from the airport (40 minutes) and It was a little difficult to find in the dark but I got there in the end. The hotel is a very small boutique hotel. The rooms are small but very functional. Good wifi connectivity throughout. Well sound proofed and is maintained to a very high standard. Breakfast is quite a small range but extremely good quality. The hot food cooked to order was delicious.

I had lunch here once and wasn't that impressed. They advertise a Michelin chef, the person who served me was the same as who cooked breakfast. I found the lunch portion to take too long to cook, it came undercooked(!), the portion was small and not particularly tasty. This is why I've rated the hotel as 4 stars instead of 5.

It's a 10-15 minute walk to the main shopping area and within a 5 minute walk is one of the tourist bus stops. I found it very easy to get around by foot.

I'd be quite happy to stay here again. The staff were all so friendly and accommodating and really made my stay very pleasurable.

Unfortunately, we only stayed one night at the hotel as it was excellent, we booked the penthouse suite which was brilliant, spacious, modern interior and great bubble bath with view at the rooftop. The staff is very helpfull and friendly, the rooms clean and breakfast was great. All in all a great place to stay and good value for money. It might not be in the top A location and doesn't have the view at the Akropolis but the hotel surely compensates for that and with the metro around the corner you can get to the Acropolis in 10 minutes.
