“Great for getting around town”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

We got the tour at 16 euros instead of 20 Euros by booking online , valid ticket for 2 days for the red route. I think it is great value as other modes of transport are certainly more expensive. The tour covers all major sites. It does a recorded audio guide which provides you basic guides and knowledge about areas you cover. Be realsitic in your expectations in terms of air conditionning as it does have an open top. It covers all important places in Athens , so I would certaonly reccomend it.

“Easiest day trip from the cruise port”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

Athens has two hop on/off companies. This review is of the CitySightseeing company and it's red buses.

This company has two tour routes. The blue route starts near the cruise terminal port in Piraeus. Hang on to your hat, because it's a windy ride on the upper deck of the bus. You then change buses at the Acropolis and go on the red line into town. It was a good overview of the city.

My only concern with this tour, is the thirty minute wait between buses. At several times, we just walked between bus stops because the buses were full. At many stops, people weren't able to get on at all, because the bus was full.

Suggestion: Exit Cruise terminal 'A' building, and stay to the left. Follow the side walk around to exit the port area. Stay on the sidewalk past the port police office. You will reach a parking lot that the buses use for ticket sales and loading. It's about a five minute walk. Buses run every thirty minutes.

From Cruise Terminal 'B', walk across the parking lot to the "Lion's Gate" exit. Look for the red sign and wait for the bus there.

“Ok but not great”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

The tour is billed as 90 minutes but for some reason the driver stays at several stops for between 5 and 10 minutes, so the whole thing should take about 60 minutes. This also means that while you are stopped there is nothing to listen to. If, like us you only wanted to take the tour, then at 18 Euros each (the blue bus is 15 Euros) that is not great value.
If however, you want to use it as a hop on hop off, then you do get to see most of the sites and you could make a day of it.
Be warned, if you want to stay in the air conned down stairs the air con fights a losing battle with the hot air coming from the doors and stairwells.

“Hopping about in Athens”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

Two companies vie for patronage with their hop on – hop off circuits of Athens. Both seem to follow very similar routes and the red bus happened upon us first. These services are a great way to orientate yourself in a new city and the Athens service is no exception. However, the operators need to keep the commentary in line with what the passengers are looking at and sometimes this was difficult to work out. The Athens ticket we purchased was valid for a second day which is a good idea because one circuit takes 90 minutes and virtually fills in the morning leaving little time in the afternoon to hop on – hop off at attractions and do them the justice they deserve.

“Best one”
Reviewed 27 May 2014 via mobile

We arrived in Piraeus by cruise ship, having booked online by e:ticket €20 instead of€22,if you are at the main cruise terminal, not using lions gate, walk out of the terminal building and keep left walk to the end of the flyover and the buses are on you're left, there are yellow, blue and the red ones.this is for the red ones exchange you're e:ticket for a proper ticket off the driver,he will pin it to a map and supply headphones.if you lose the headphones it is 0.50 cents for a new set!we found stops in good locations for all sights both in Piraeus and Athens itself, beware give yourself plenty of time to get back to the ship.there is only 1 place where the red and blue lines merge and that is by the acropolis stop
