“Great Place to stay”
Reviewed 4 August 2011

We stayed at the Novotel both before and after a week staying in Crete. The hotel is comfortable and clean. The pool, bar and restaurant on the roof are fabulous and the vie over the roof tops of Athens is great. e got a great deal through a late hotel booking type website (not sure which) for a family room. Double bed and good pull out sofa bed.

We had no problem with the staff ho were all helpful. We were allowed acess to the room on our return at 7.00 am ( very helpful as family very tired as ferry from Crete docked at 5.30am). We did not expereince any thing going ,issing or being interferred with.

It is true that the area is not in the least up market and more nervous travellors might feel uncomfortable. We always travelled using the underground (6 min walk to Larissa Station). The area is fairly run down and there are plenly of people hanging around on the street etc. But we had no trouble at all - even hen wheeling our cases to and from the hotel. There is a lot of grafitti around - but that is true for various areas in Athens.

It is easy to get yourself into undesirable areas easily though so you really need to sticl to the main roads from the staion to the hotel. We ere generally back by 9pm to make use of the roof top bar etc. But if you don't feel comfortable just take a taxi.

In our expereince the hotel as great. The children loved the pool and as it was so hot when we stayed it was heaven to have a place to cool off after a day of sight seeing.

I would say don't be put off.

This review is slightly different in that we never actually went to the hotel...We made the booking in June. please read on!
Our experience of the Novotel Athens was of extremely bad customer service from the day we booked this hotel. We specifically booked a room at a price that offered us the opportunity of cancelling up until six pm the day of arrival with no charges incurred. Instead what happened was that the hotel charged us immediately (four months prior to arriving!). Had we wished to pay upfront, we could have secured a room at the hotel at a much cheaper rate. We complained to Booking.com and they investigated but the hotel refused to refund our money, eventually after three weeks of complaining and threatening to go to Visa they returned our money. Obviously we then cancelled, quite apart from the point of principle we could only imagine our stay there would be tainted by further bad service. I have no experience of staying at this hotel, although other Novotels in other cities I have always found excellent, but I’m afraid I would not recommend this hotel to anyone whilst the current management is in place. It’s worth mentioning however that during this process Booking.com acted in a very professional and efficient manner and I wouldn’t want this bad experience to reflect on them.

This hotel offers all you expect from a Novotel , we had a very good price/value especially as our two children could share our room without extra charges . we unfolded the sofabed only when needed so the space was ok . For two nights it is fine , for a longer stay we would have taken two rooms . The pool on the roof is a nice bonus after a long day travelling or visiting the historic sites . Towels are provided , free of charge . It closes after 19 h because they use the rooftop for restaurant in the evening ( with view over the Acropolis! ) . Drinks near the pool are expensive( to greek standards) but as all food is much cheaper ... it's holiday after all and one should not count too much ! Breakfast is excellent , more than we expected anyway . The receptionist on duty was probably having an off day ... it seemed to be hard work to assist us when we found out all taxi's were on strike and we had to find our carrental-place . After some encouragement she called Hertz for us , but did not get any help there so we decided to go by metro . It is wise to travel light ,so these situations do not immobilise you ,our daughters both dragged their own suitcases . People with small kids would have struggled more .
The novotel is a place we can recommend , the area is not the most clean and hip but it is ok , we did not walk around too much late at night , and when taxi's are not on strike it feels safer to use one than to walk back from Plaka especially with the children . In all major cities there are such neighbourhoods I guess .

The hotel is ok. Rooms are spacious and clean enought to have a good sejour.
The technical problem are not solved in time(the bar fridge was out off service). During 3 nights the problem was not solved.
The carpet from each level must be cleaned. The ventilasion nusels are dirty.
Free parking underground for clients.
Prices at the rooftop terase are too higher for the hotel category, even that you have a good panorama.
If you intend to walk during the night in the area don't forghet to take the body guard with you, or an antitero team...its better!
Good luck in your future stay!

Stayed here for a work trip for three nights. The location was ok, as the taxi's were on stike, it was only a 10minute walk to Omonia tube station (although don't walk back from there at night as one of the roads turns into the red light district. It was quite strange experience walking through that carrying my laptop!). Anyway, hotel rooms were fine, bed was comfy and it was relatively quiet. Rooms had good wireless signal (free) mini bar and aircon, restaurant, both breakfast and dinner was good and the view from the bar on the roof was really good.

75 euros I paid for a room and internet was free. A small gym and roof top pool is also available. Top marks to the staff who rallied around to arrange our airport transfer in light of the taxi strike, I paid 50 euros.
