My mother and I stayed four nights in room 206 and found the entire experience to be thoroughly enjoyable. Design to die for - everywhere. Delicious food. Dream-inducing beds. Noiseless aircon! Blockout blinds. Great views.
Our only issue was with a movie package that didn't play properly and our money was refunded without question.
The service and quality of this hotel is first class, yet it lacks pretension and is intimate and friendly all round. Hats off to the New Hotel crew. And thanks for making our Athens experience - and welcome to Greece - so enjoyable.

Stayed 2 nights as part of my "Tour of Greece" and to attend a wedding in Santorini. I trusted my travel agent in booking the hotel and had no expectations for anything but a nice clean and safe place to sleep. This hotel exceeded my expectations before we even checked in! I absolutely loved the decor, from the woodwork on the walls and the Greek shadow puppet decor in my room. The desk staff were very nice and accommodating, giving excellent restaurant and shopping recommendations. We also had the chance to eat at the rooftop lounge. The food was excellent and the view of the Acropolis was superb. Would definitely recommend to friends.

We stayed at the New Hotel for five nights during the last week of August. Based on the reviews that I read, I had high expectations going in and they were easily met during our time there. Overall we were very happy with our stay and look forward to coming back in the future.

If you're interested in a more detailed review - read on, otherwise just make the reservation now. Regarding the specifics of the hotel, I would say the following:

- The Room - to start, it was spacious (we did have a corner room - 301). The bed was extremely comfortable. The air conditioning was outstanding - cool to any temperature and quiet. The internet, while having to login in at nearly every use, was flawless and fast. The shower had good water pressure and a wide (rain) head as well as a handheld device. The room was well appointed with more attention to detail in the bathroom. The funkiness, described by many reviewers throughout the hotel, is in full effect in the bathroom. There is an interesting design where the shower door acts as the door for privacy to the toilet when rotated out from the shower (don't know who thought of that, but it was a bit of a space saver). The shower also has an opaque glass wall that faces the bedroom - adding to the unique design. And the bathroom has a modern brass sink and bamboo floors (which you feel a bit guilty getting wet after a shower - just remember it was part of the design). Style, space and comfort - what more could you want? I should also mention that they have a nightly turndown service and the chocolates that were provided were an ending highlight for my daughter every day - they were excellent.

The Breakfast - it was one of the best I've had in Europe. I know there are booking sites that give you different pricing for the "room only" or "room with breakfast" - if you are a breakfast eater, definitely take the "with breakfast" option. In this option, you can start with a cappucino (although only one is included) which is beautifully made, they provide excellent freshly baked croissants (plain and chocolate), the orange juice is squeezed (almost to order) in the restaurant and served in large glasses. You can order omlets cooked to order with many ingredients and there is a very good spread of cheeses, yogurts, cereals, and cakes. The fruit is okay, but not nothing to write home about (or on trip advisor). The wait staff is highly professional and generally timely. Overall, a top-end service.

The Common Areas - Downstairs, in the lobby, there's a lot of recycled dark wood that adorns the walls with random desk lamps jutting out at all angles - definitely setting the tone for the hotel's artistic taste. There is some seating, but it's only for waiting - not for lounging given the small size. The other interesting note in the lobby is the aroma. There is a plesant scent when you enter the hotel and throughout the lobby - which seems to tie into the scents of the shampoo et al in the rooms. Also, during the day, the hotel leaves out bite-sized freshly baked cakes and goodies in the lobby that you can take as you go by. We certainly had our fair share and it was a very nice touch. Upstairs, there is a restaurant which follows in the funky themed decor - a library atmosphere with huge sliding glass doors all-around that lead out onto the terrace that (of course) has a view of the Acropolis. And the tables are nicely separated so you don't feel you're in the middle of someone else's private conversation. So whether you are inside or out, it has a very airy and transcendent feeling. Over the course of our stay we went up for dessert one night and for a full meal on another occassion. It is very peaceful and the food quite good. Whether you go up for an afternoon refresher, a drink at sunset or dinner - it is definitely worth your time.

The Front Desk - in general it was good, but this is the one area where the hotel could have done a bit better. To start with there are two reception desks, but often (certainly during peak times) more people wanting service than what is available. There isn't a clear way to line up so your left wondering how many people in the lobby are waiting for an open desk (vs. waiting for a friend/customer/etc). Once you engage the front desk, you can recognize their strengths and limitations quickly. For anything that is in the straight and narrow tourist frame, they provide great advice. So for things like - Can you show us a map of the area and explain the best way to the Acropolis? Spot on. Can you get us a taxi? Five minutes, sir. Can you arrange for the (super generic) three-island-hopping boat cruise? Fast and efficient... But, should you want something off the beaten path - the advice and help is not as strong. We are vegetarians - which is not a problem at all in Greece. Still I asked where we might find really good vegetarian Greek food - just a variety of great tasting appetizers. And it was completely baffling to them. On our first night, they sent us to a vegetarian restaurant (Avacado) - it had a lot of international style vegetarian food - very little Greek food. I thought they might have misunderstood - so the next night I went through - where's the place with the best fava, skordalia, gigantes, grilled feta, saganaki, etc. And again I got these blank stares. They started talking about a fish restaurant, but weren't sure. So I gave up - went to our room, searched (on trip advisor) for the best Greek restaurants, looked at several menus, wrote down the adresses and went down stairs to ask which was the closest - problem solved. There was also an issue trying to set up a day of sailing or snorkeling. Surprisingly, there aren't any tour companies that do this and not many entrepreneurs. They located one, but I felt less than supported as I figured out how to engage his service - and the front desk really stepped back when I asked them to confirm his credentials as he had no website and wanted to be paid in cash. In the end, we had a great day on the water, but I felt on my own when I really could have used their help. So if you are looking for unique ways to take in Athens, this is not a highpoint of the service. Overall though, solidly good, just not great (four stars vs five for everything else).

In the end, if we are in Athens again we would look forward to staying at the New Hotel. It is an excellent hotel and we highly recommend it....

Room Tip: Rooms ending in "01" are bigger. They may charge more when in prime season, but if you...

Had 1 night at the New Hotel on a business trip. Both my and my partner's rooms where really perfect. Very specially designed, clean and comfortable. Not too big though. Also we were at the 3rd floor and there's really no view - everything is blocked by other buildings.

As a place to work a bit, take a shower (perfect shower!) and have a good night's sleep - really recommended. The place is beautiful and the staff are much more than nice and helpful. Very good service.

Breakfast also very good.

Room Tip: 3rd floor has no view, would try and get a higher floor.

This hotel is a gem. It has an impeccable location less that 5 mins walk to Syntagmatos Square, 10 mins to the Acropolis, Plaka etc. There are lots of lovely restaurants in striking distance too.
The reception is small but beautifully designed making you feel as though you are mid art installation. There is a table with water and plates of scrummy cake to tempt/refresh you as you wait for the lift or check in/out. Our room had original art on the wall and a funky fur chair.
The view from the top floor bar over the City is good but the view of the Acropolis is only from a small section of the balcony. Breakfast is lovely, a buffet with fresh eggs etc to order. Their pastry is very good, Very good croissants, pain au raisin (which they call escargot) and brioche, sample all of them, I did!
The only minor gripe was that the DVD player in our suite didn't work as it wasn't wired up properly and it took 24 hours for the maintenance guy to come and try to connect it. Even after that it was unsatisfactory as the volume was muffled and distorted. We gave up trying to use the DVD in the end.
The turndown service with chocolate is a nice touch and the complimentary bottle of water int eh room is very thoughtful.
Overall a pleasant experience and a delightful hotel.

This place is awful. I chose it because of its good Tripadvisor reviews and it turned out to be the only time I have been sadly disappointed by Tripadvisor.

New Hotel is situated on the corner of Filellinon St, which in turn is an extension of Stadiou St, one of the main arterial streets going through Athens. So there is a massive amount of traffic that passes right in front of the hotel. The hotel claims to have good sound insulation, but we were in a side room and there still was an unbearable amount of noise that droned on throughout the night. Forget about the balcony - its just too noisy.

The staff seemed to have no or perhaps even negative training and were generally nasty. The hotel is built to resemble a night club and the staff have a "we're too good for you attitude" that you might find in a night club. When we complained about our rude breakfast waiter, our complaints were just dismissed by management.

The rooms themselves are small and uncomfortable. The bathroom is so small that that the bathroom door has to serve as the shower door as well. The bathroom sink sits outside the bathroom in the main room. Our room view looked directly into an office.

This place pretends to be a luxury hotel but the rooms are cramped and just plain crummy.

If you are looking for a relaxing hotel, go elsewhere.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for sharing with us your kind review. Our hotel is centrally located on Filellinon street and conveniently within walking distance from Syntagma square (metro station), Plaka (old city of Athens) Acropolis and Acropolis museum and Monastiraki (flea market). This is why our location is considered by our Tripadvisor reviewers as a great asset. Nevertheless please allow us to mention that all of our rooms feature double glaze windows. Our aim is always to meet and even exceed our guests' expectations thus we keep our staff selection criteria high which is clearly reflected in the vast majority of our guests feedback. It is with great regret that we read of your discomfort caused during your breakfast. New Hotel offers different room types and sizes of impeccable design. We are proud to be included as a member of Design Hotels brand taht is a symbol of distinction and considered to be one of the most prestigious hotel affiliations in the world. Once again we thank you and it will be our pleasure to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the near future.
