“A "Golden" experience in downtown Athens”
Reviewed 25 January 2014

While on a business trip I just spent one night at the New Hotel in downtown Athens. I didn't know what to expect but upon checking in I immediately felt how much the staff genuinely cares or their guests. Professional, frinedly and dedicated personnel everywhere, that make you feel as a valued guest at anytime during your stay.
The hotel itself is a true gem. You may call it a designer hotel as every detail in the common areas and in each room has been meticolously designed from scratch, often using cleverly "recycled and renewed" furniture, while the unconventional layout of the room - the designer certainly had a penchant for gold, which is reflected in every detail of the bathroom, from the sink to the waste bin! -, make it stand out of the crowd.
On the seventh floor the Art Lounge, offers a fantastic view of Plaka and the surrounding Hills, along with a well stocked library and art collection.
Breakfast's highlights were a nice buffet where you can have your eggs cooked as per your request along with the freshest and tastiest pain au chocolat and croissants I ever had in a hotel.
A great address in Athens, and one to warmly recommend.

Stayed at New Hotel for 6 nights, we really enjoyed it and the location was perfect! Very clean hotel, and room was always spotless. Lovely views from the room!
Only thing that got to us is that they use air fresheners all around the hotel that smell like gross cologne. Not a big deal, just a bit gross (you will know what I mean if you stay there).
Great hotel overall!!

This hotel is right in the heart of Athens so great for exploring all the sights. The welcome at the hotel is second-to-none, small bits of cake in the lobby, friendly staff and useful TV screens in the lobby and lift telling you the news and temperature. The rooms are spacious and well-designed, there's even a turn-down service with chocolates before bed! The roof-top bar is great for a night-cap, but beware it is expensive to eat or drink in the hotel compared to going out and about. Breakfast was a shambles, it took a good 15 minutes to get the hot food we had ordered and even then it was wrong! English is clearly not well understood when asking for scrambled eggs and bacon!! The spa is tiny, literally a room so you can't have treatments together and there is no pool to enjoy. The fitness suite, however, is brand new but also rather small. For a location to explore from it is perfect and we would stay here again.

Room Tip: Beware some rooms are covered with the evil eye on the walls! We loved the Greek shadow puppets on...

The New hotel is the only place to stay in Athens. Where should I begin? The decor and ambience is incredibly warm and serene. The staff are super friendly and make you feel at home. I walked into the hotel after recently staying for a month and they automatically welcomed me using my name and prepared me my usual coffee as I like it. They are all very willing to please and help in any possible way.
The food menu is delicious in taste and variety and i would definitely suggest having a great sunday brunch! And no need to worry, when you have eating this extra calories just pop down to the amazing gym and have a great workout!
I could continue writing pages of all the positives of this hotel but ill sum it up in a few words : New hotel is my home away from home.

im a repetitve customer of new hotel cause i respect the consistency in which they offer in both quality and service. Its such a nice feeling to enter the hotel and to be greeted every time with the same smile and professionalism. Right in the centre of town with an amazing view on the rooftop makes me want to say " New hotel thank you for making me feel like home ".

Just spent 4 nights at the New Hotel! Why anyone would call a decent hotel by this name is beyond me - but dont let this put you off)
Very efficient, knowledge and welcoming front desk staff
Cleanliness is great, with turndown service and small treats!
The design is quirky whilst remaining inviting!
Breakfast, was continental with warm staples avaiable on request - the restaurant staff are a genuine asset to the hotel.
The rooftop bar is very nice, amazing views of the acropolis and tasty drinks to boot!
Location is brilliant!

The one thing that really let us down was the Front Desk Staff recommening Zorbas Seafood restaurant in Pireaus - Please Please read my review and make your own assessment of the situation but we left feeling that the quality of the restaurant was so very poor that there must be some link between the staff and the restaurant. It is mind boggling that staff at this hotel would recommend or even want to be associated with such a disgusting establishment.

My husband and I spent most of our vacation on Crete but wanted to tour Athens before returning to the US. This hotel was so highly rated on Tripadvisor that we decided to try it. Glad we did! We came by train from the airport and were delighted that the hotel was a short two blocks from the metro station. We also walked everywhere in Athens that we wanted to go---never did get a taxi (although they are reasonably priced we were told). The decor is as "quirky" and unique as the advertisements suggest. I'll have to admit that there were so many mirrors and glass in our room I was a little afraid I would walk into one of them. Our king bed was extremely comfortable and the mechanical windows that offered either shade or complete darkness were AMAZING!!! We are late sleepers, so the darkening was wonderful. The glass shower that shows into the bedroom is frosted but might make some feel less than private. Also, one little negative was that the shower floor was wooden, I think, and move a bit and had a bit of a moldy smell to it. The staff--from the desk clerks to the doormen--were most helpful as we did need directions and recommendations on several occasions. They were always kind and willing to help. We did not get the breakfast plan as we really enjoy sleeping late and then finding new little places to eat. We did eat once at the restaurant on top of the building---lovely view and good quality food. This hotel worked perfectly for us as far as comfort and convenience.
