We stayed at the Athens Gate Hotel in January, 2012. The hotel's location is excellent, as the Metro, historic sites and Plaka are all within walking distance. Our stay included the hotel breakfast and each morning the hostess greeted us with a smile and made us feel at home. The view of the Parthenon and Zeus Temple were inviting. Attempting to work on my Biostats homework was literally impossible due to the beautiful scenery in my midst. The hotel's staff worked diligently to ensure our stay was comfortable. The room was very clean and it overlooked the Zeus Temple. Our scheduled flight out of Athens departed extremely early; the hotel assisted with arranging taxi service and they took the time to make us a boxed breakfast to go - we appreciated that very much. If we return to Athens, Athens Gate Hotel will be our #1 choice.

Room Tip: Our room did have a balcony that overlooked the Zeus Temple - ask for this if it's something you...

Concerning the location, I guess it is the best hotel in Athens. At walking distance from the metro, the Acropoli, the shopping district of "Plaka", and, a little bit far away (10 min) from Monastiraki square.
The hotel is clean, rooms are adequately equipped, staff is friendly and very efficient.
Unique roof garden with bar service and restaurant, with a stunning view to the acropoli, the temple of Zeus and the hill of Lycabetton. Breakfast (included) is served here every morning. An unforgettable place.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights--first night into Athens and last night of the trip heading back to the US. Perfect location--very central to Acropolis, restaurants, etc. Hotel staff was exceptionally helpful with every question we had. Rooms were basic, but clean (we had a budget crisis room!). Bathroom was nice and spacious with fantastic olive oil toiletries. The rooftop had a nice restaurant, but really I would recommend just going up there for drinks--the view is spectacular!

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary vacation in November with 2 couples. The 6 of us thorougly enjoyed our stay, the room with a great view, the location, the food in the roof top restaurant, and the friendly, helpful staff. We rented a caravan and they let us park it on the sidewalk right by the front door as parking is scarce and crowded. We walked to the tourists sites, very convenient.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the quiet side, not on the street side and ask for a room close to the top for the...

The location of this hotel is amazing, so close to the Acropolis and right by a metro station. The view from the restaurant is absolutely stunning and the food is also very good and not too expensive. Before going I read that some of the rooms can be quite noisy (its on a main road) but this wasn't the case for us as we had a room away from the road.
All the staff were very friendly and really made us feel at home. I would definitely recommend the Athens Gate Hotel!

This hotel earns it's high marks from travelers. First, the greeting was welcoming, warm and friendly. The room, a small "standard" was just right for a solo traveler-double bed, with great pillows and crisp sheets. The bed was even turned down with a little chocolate left on the nightstand. I like the laminate floors as well. Nothing can bring a room down like dingy worn out carpeting. The view from the from rooftop restaurant was absolutely breathtaking, seriously, I gasped when I saw the Parthenon lit up. Even if you choose not to eat dinner there, relaxing in the lounge after a serious day of sightseeing is the way to go.
The staff was also helpful with directions to the sites and where to find a needed pharmacy. Traveling with a head cold is NOT FUN!
The location is perfect as well: across the street from the Temple of Zeus and about a 10-15 min walk to the Acropolis Museum and then of course up to the Parthenon. It's very close to the Plaka district for food and touristy shopping.

Room Tip: I had a room with a view of the Temple of Zeus. It is above a main road, so without earplugs it coul...

My husband and I stayed at The Athens Gate Hotel on our second visit to Greece, having stayed there previously in 2010. The location and view from the room and from the rooftop restaurant and lounge can't be beat. We were able to walk to our favorite restaurants in the Plaka and the hotel is also located near a Metro station. The staff is very helpful and the doorman remembered us from our last visit. The breakfast buffet is outstanding and we enjoyed drinks every evening at the rooftop lounge. A little pricey but worth it! J. Walsh

Room Tip: Worth the extra money for a room with a view.
