We stayed for 4 nights (beginning of Dec last year) during our honeymoon to Greece and should say that the hotel is location is prime ... centrally located in Athens, convenient to the antiquities - Zeus temple and the Acropolis are walking distance, the Plaka, the new Acropolis Museum, the great Metro system and excellent restaurants. Breakfast in the roof garden with the view of the Acropolis is hard to beat. The range of items on the breakfast menu is great ... with sausages, fruits, cornflakes, croissants, pastries, different type of marmalade (that was our favorite :-) The evening dinner is a bit expensive but that shouldn't be a cause of worry as there are quite a few hotels on the way leading to the Acropolis (even opened at night) that serve very authentic greek dishes and are reasonably priced.

Rooms are of decent size, not to big but it didn't matter for us as we were out of the hotel for most part of the day. The rooms and the rest of the hotel facility are spotlessly clean with all the right amenities. The beds are cozy (we took a room on the 6th floor) and though there are quite a few housing building around, the night-time view of the Acropolis is a site to behold and it looks magnificent and great at night .... beautifully lighted up. Just when you step out of the hotel, you will have to navigate through heavy traffic as the hotel is situated right on the main street but what you get to see is a complex but well working transportation system that leaves you in awe ... on the same street you have cars, buses, trams, trains working in perfect symphony !!!

The staff are kind and helpful. Highly recommended hotel to stay if you're visiting Athens for a short trip!

Room Tip: Always ask for a room facing the Acropolis as it is much quieter at the back of the hotel than rooms...

Best location I think you could possibly get in Athens for this price range and this value. Rooms were updated and clean. The morning breakfast was the best part of this hotel due to the amazing views and decent selection of food items. If I ever go back to Athens, I will stay here again for sure.

Tip: Depending on what you're looking for, I specifically chose a room on facing the inside of the hotel. I noticed this hotel faces some of the busiest streets in Athens (though I can't speculate on how bad/good their sound proofing is). Though I didn't have a view (which I didn't care about since I was only there to sleep anyways), it was absolutely dead quiet and I was able to get quality sleep.

Well, not quite sleeping with Athena, but our room was so close to the Parthenon! What a spectacular view at night from the large balcony! We had room 707. It was so clean, great shower, comfortable bed, lots of room! The staff at the front desk were so friendly and very helpful with all of our questions. The complimentary breakfast buffet on the roof was delicious and quite varied! We sat on the side opposite from our room so we could gaze at the Temple of Zeus! All in all a great hotel, close to all of the main sites of Acropolis and the Plaka!

Room Tip: You definitely should take a room facing the Acropolis! It's spectacular, especially at night.

Not having visited Athens before, I had no idea how well situated the Athens Gate Hotel is for tourists. For proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka, metro and all the sites, there is no better location. On top of that, the rooms and the rest of the facility are new and spotlessly clean with all the amenities. Our bed was firm but comfortable. We stayed in an interior, "crisis budget" room which was just perfect. The window looked out into a courtyard, but provided light and air without street traffic. The heating/air conditioning worked great. There is only a minimal glass panel, no curtain, to keep shower water from spraying outside the tub (so be careful), but as the hotel website pictures show, the bathroom and room are very attractive. Two mornings, at about the same time (unfortunately both times when my wife was in the shower), construction in the area caused water to be cut off for a few minutes before the hotel was able to switch to an alternative source, but staff more than made up for lightening striking twice with a free dinner in the hotel's beautiful roof-top restaurant.

It is in that roof-top restaurant where a great breakfast is served every morning (while the breakfast is wonderful, I would not recommend dinner there unless it is free). Directly across the street from the hotel is the Temple of Zeus and Hadrian's Arch. On the other side of the restaurant, the view of the Acropolis is equally amazing. A great morning jog awaits in the huge public park across the street, encompassing the area north of the Temple of Zeuss to the Parliament building (that and Syntagma Square also within walking distance, an especially delightful walk if through the park). The hotel staff were amazingly helpful in giving directions and advice for great restaurants (especially Strophi).

Although the hotel sadly does charge for most internet access, there are two computer terminals with internet access available for free use in the lobby. The hotel also permits each guest a half hour of free wireless use each day in the lobby. The lobby is large, and there never was a problem finding comfortable, secluded seating.

If you are visiting Athens to see the sights, I cannot imagine a better place to stay than Athens Gate.

Room Tip: The budget crisis room was excellent, and at a really great rate.

I was in town for a few days for business and it was a good location for me, it was a nice room and the staff were helpful and useful. Breakfast was average but the view from the top was good. Easy access to the sites and although on the main road it wasn't to loud for me.

Great location, walking distance to evrything. Hotel is clean comfortable and modern. We had a room at the front facing the Temple of Zeus. Nice view but terrible road noise all day and night. We asked to be moved to the rear for the remaining two nights and was moved immediately. Our new room had a great view of the Acropolis and no noise at all. Very helpful staff at front desk.
Rooftop breakfast - excellent.

Room Tip: Must have a room at back.

Stayed two nights in early April 2012 during the Greek Easter holidays. The hotel's location is wonderful - convenient to the antiquities, the Plaka, the new Acropolis Museum, the great Metro system and excellent restaurants. Breakfast in the roof garden with the view of the Acropolis is hard to beat. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Highly recommended! If you are looking for a restaurant, there is a great unassuming, family run place around the corner from the hotel - To Kati Anno, Hatzichristou 12.
