I selected the Athens Gate hotel for our recent trip to Athens based on TA reviews and I was very pleased. The temple of Olympic Zeus was directly across the street for a great view from our room. The view from the roof top restaurant was the Parthenon which was great during breakfast or illuminated at night. The hotel is only a few blocks from the Acropolis Metro and New Acropolis Museum as well as easy walking distance to the Plaka area and several restaurants. The staff was very helpful and attentive and even called a hotel on Hydra when we had a problem with our reservation there. The only complaint is the noise because the hotel is directly on the main drag. We used ear plugs and still heard the street noise.

Room Tip: Select a room on the back side of the hotel if you are willing to trade quiet for the view. Avoid r...

This hotel is nothing special in itself, but the location for one who wants to visit the sites of Athens is superb. All the major attractions were in easy walking distance. The room was on the small side, but certainly adequate and very clean. There is no free wifi in the room. If you need it, you need to go the the bar upstairs which commands a view of the acropolis and the temple of Zeus, but was very hot when we were there. It is possible to go out on the patio though. The breakfast was very good with many options.

Room Tip: If you want a view of the acropolis from your room, be sure to ask to be on that side of the buildin...

We loved our stay here We were only in Athens for two nights, so this hotel with its view of the Acropolis on one side & the Temple of Zeus on the other was perfect. We had not hired a car so being able to walk to some of the major attractions of Athens was a big plus for us, we were able to walk to the Acropolis in less then 15 minutes. I particularly enjoyed taking breakfast on the rooftop, what a way to start the day. The staff were attentive, the room comfortable & clean, the position fabulous.

This hotel is in one of the best locations in Athens. Very easy to navigate around Athens, close to a lovely pedestrian area, close to the subway. Room was very nicely appointed with an excellent bathroom. Highly recommend the rooftop restaurant for dinner. Food was exceptional. Staff very polite and helpful.

We were happy from the minute we arrived. A lovely welcome at the front desk with a drink and a sweet treat was a first class surprise. Our balcony room overlooking the Temple of Zeus was well designed and modern - not a huge amount of room for luggage. A short walk around the corner and you can have a delightful dinner looking up at the Acropolis. Staying here in the old town was the best decision. We had comfort, views and easy pick up for any tours we chose to do.There was an ATM near by and a short walk to shops. We will stay here again and strongly recommend it. The breakfast with a view was amazing and the staff very helpful. You can see this hotel trys hard and does things very well. Don't worry about some street noise into your room the whole experience out weighs this by far.

Room Tip: Its worth paying a little more to have a balcony - overlooking the Temple of Zeus side was a great c...

Smiling and helpful receptionists. Small garage but locked. Nicely and modern rooms and bathrooms. Terrace restaurant a bit noisy and small but with a great view. Risotto to die. Location is great although really on a heavy traffic boulevard.

The location of this hotel was great. It was about a 5 min walk to the entrance of the acropolis, was located in the old town 'plaka' (so close to nearby restaurants). The first impressions of the room were average. It was a budget room (as said when purchased) with a twin bed and a beautiful view of the air conditioning units. The room however looked like it was modern and fresh. The fine details when cleaning were missed. The toothpaste cup (that was white) had toothpaste stains inside (and we had not used it), there was also toe nail clippings on the floor. When the room was serviced the cleaner threw out my partners empty drinking bottle (which we actually wanted, and as a result had to buy a new bottle). The pillows were too soft and we woke up with saw necks every morning (my partner and i have very different pillow preferences and we both disliked the pillows). However, the service was good, and they recommended a wonderful vegetarian resturant nearby called avocado. The breakfast view was amazing, with views of the acropolis. The breakfast was good. Overall, I would stay here, but i found it to be a high 3 star or a low 4 star hotel.
