“Clean and great location”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

We stopped in Athens for a night before catching a ferry to the Greek Isles. The Athens Gate was the perfect choice. Since it was a very short walk to the Acropolis, we were able to explore the whole historic area and eat dinner at a cute cafe all before it even turned dark.
When we arrived at the hotel, the staff was courteous and provided us with some treats upon checking in. Our room was very spacious, clean and contemporary looking.

My only complaint was that the upstairs restaurant didn't serve dessert later, but we still were able to get a drink and look at the beautiful view.

Thumbs up!

Very good location, however, outside entrance and lobby look like they needed a "facelift" at least 20 years ago. Extremely small and slow elevators. Cannot fit more than 2 people and luggage in it. My husband and I do not think the elevator could fit a wheelchair. Room was clean, but the bathroom was very dark and little counter space. The shower door opened into the shower instead of outward. There was no electrical outlet except outside the bathroom, close to the floor, across from the mirrored closet door. I had to use my curling iron by bending down and placing it on the floor each curl. Crazy! The hall walls are paper thin.
Pros- the rooftop restaurant was excellent with great views. Due to the very slow elevators, it could take a long time to reach this restaurant and return downstairs, but it is worth the wait.

Phenomenal location. Made seeing Athens easy (and we only had 2 days there). Clean rooms. Comfortable beds. Quiet. Friendly staff. Delicious breakfast and amazing view. Small elevator (large enough for 2 people) but newish and fast. Also, has stairs for those who don't like small elevators. Would stay there again, and would highly recommend it to friends.

My wife and I picked this hotel because of its strong reviews on TA. We were very happy with our stay. The location is absolutely great! Rooms are on the small side but the lay out is good. The room size was to be expected when staying in a large city in Europe through my travel experience. We ate dinner on the rooftop which was very good with great views! Breakfast was also very good. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We would def recommend a stay at this hotel.

In March I visited Greece for the first time and stayed at the Athens Gate Hotel for 9 nights. I absolutely loved it and was very pleased with the hotel and it's amenities. It is in a great location... across the street from the Temple of Zeus, a short walk to the Plaka, a short walk to the Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum and nearby the metro system and bus stops. Granted it is different from American hotels but it was still very nice.
We stayed in a room that had a view of the Temple of Zeus which also means of the main road. Due to the fact we were there in March they had not turned the air conditioning system on yet (They put it on in May) and there was no ceiling fan so at night we slept with the balcony door open and it was a little bit noisy. On some nights it was aggravating but it wasn't terrible.
The bathroom was very clean and done well but as I have noticed it is common in Europe to not have a shower curtain but rather a half wall or half glass wall. Our room was on the fifth floor and we took the stairs because we are just not fans of elevators.
One of my favorite parts of the hotel was the continental breakfast on the roof lounge. The food was AMAZING. Fresh and delicious with a nice variety for the many different palates. The staff was very friendly and attentive... offering tea or coffee right when you sat down and making sure everything was okay. There was an option to sit inside or outside and we did both because the weather was perfect while we were there.
Overall I loved my time at the Athens Gate Hotel and often daydream about the breakfast meal because it was just so perfect with the view and scrumptious food.

Room Tip: Paid wifi for rooms but FREE wifi in common areas: lobby, rooftop.

Although we only stayed one night, we loved this hotel. Right from check in, to finding a complimentary bottle of wine sent by the manager to celebrate our anniversary, to the beautiful open air patio over looking the acropolis and the temple of Zeus, we wish we could have stayed longer. The breakfast was fantastic with a large selection to please anyone. Location is central to all that needs to be seen. The room was fabulous with an extremely comfortable bed and beautiful bathroom. Money was well spent on the renovations. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. We would recommend Athens Gate to anyone who travels to Athens.

Tip; if you don't mind paying a little extra, ask for the back rooms on the 6 or 7th floor. You will get unobstructed views of the Acropolis.
Amazing location, next to the museum, transportation and Acropolis. Rooms were very nice, the staff was lovely and the rooftop restaurant was an incredible experience for us to end our Greek vacation.
Starting your day, sharing high quality breakfast with my sweetheart looking over the city was a highlight of our trip
Cookies and coffee for early check outs was greatly appreciated
The cons: tiny elevators, and...charge to use WiFi in your room??? No thanks. WiFi in the lobby and rooftop was spotty. I had better connection in the middle of the Kalambaka mountains.
All in all, best in Athens as long as you get the rooms in the higher floors
