“Two Wonderful Days In Athens”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2014

My wife couldn't have been more pleased with the hotel and its excellent location to the major attractions of Athens. On top of that the nightlife was within short walking distance from the hotel. From our suite we had an uninterrupted view of the Temple of Zeus and from the roof top dining area we could clearly see the Acropolis. The hotel front desk staff was very helpful and bar/resturant staff were all pleasant and courteous.

The room was small but very clean. The location was perfect if you are seeing the ruins. Our room had a great very from the balcony. We had to leave early the next morning and they
prepared us a box breakfast to go. Very nice touch. Only thing I would have liked was a pool.

We were greeted by the smell of garbage as we entered our room (probably because the room was located on the back near the alleyway where the garbage gets collected. The room itself was quite basic and whilst clean it really didn't exude a 4 star experience. If you looking for internet access, you can sign up for paid Wifi access in the room or you have go to the lobby in the tiny elevator for free access Whilst the view from the rooftop garden provides an excellent vantage point over the city, the breakfast itself left a lot to be desired.

The saving grace for the hotel is most definitely the location - you are effectively a few steps away from Plaka area with easy access to a multitude of dining and shopping options - not to mention the historical sites and museums.

We were just spending a few days in Athens before continuing on to Crete and we wanted a nice hotel near the Acropolis so that we could see the ruins and the museums on foot. The location could not have been better, and the view from the rooftop restaurant was perfect. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Although the rooms were modern and furnished well, our standard room was little bigger than the bed and was cramped even for just two people. The street noise from the road for rooms facing the Temple of Zeus was substantial, although ear plugs and the quality windows of the hotel tamed it enough for sleep. If noise is an issue, get a room facing the Acropolis away from the traffic. There are few amenities, and the lobby was very plain. An alternative that offers more if you can get a good price is the Royal Olympian just one block away, where our children and grandchildren stayed.

Room Tip: Acropolis view rooms are much quieter

The view from our room was the ruins of the Temple of Zeus, which is directly across the street, and the view from the rooftop restaurant was the Parthenon, a 10 minute walk away! Absolutely stunning! Breakfast was delicious! Additionally, the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms and bathrooms were modern and comfortable. Shopping, cafes, and many sites are easy walking distance.

Room Tip: The spectacular view of the Temple of Zeus was worth the occasional traffic noise. While other room...

We stayed at the Athens Gate for about 2 nights. Location is pretty convenient since the Acropolis is in walking distance and the temple of Zeus is right across the street from it. Our room was located on the 6th floor and we got the view of the Acropolis right from our balcony, which I must say was stunning. So in my opinion, you should make sure you get a room on the higher floors.
Rooftop dinner a must-a little pricey but the view is gorgeous and the atmosphere is beyond romantic. Make sure you make reservations in advance so you can get a table with a view of the acropolis. The complementary breakfast is served at the rooftop restaurant (if you did pay extra to have the breakfast included with your room). If you have to catch a flight before breakfast time don't worry because they have coffee and cookies ready for you at the reception. So now that I said all the great things about Athens Gate, it's time to tell you about the not so great things.
One of the things that really annoyed me was the fact that you had to pay for wifii if you wanted to use it in your room. However, if you wanted to use it in the lobby or the rooftop restaurant it was free. Of course, in neither area was the wifii good enough...not even to send an I-message forget about browsing. We stayed at various hotels in Greece and no one really charged for wifii except Athens Gate. Even all the restaurants in Greece give you free access if you decide to dine in. I really didn't understand what was the logic behind it. Anyway, also be prepared to see the world's smallest elevator! My boyfriend and I barely fit with our 2 carry-ons and backpack. Keep in mind, we are relatively skinny people.
Overall, we were happy with our stay. Honestly, it seems as if Athens really doesn't have much of a selection of high end hotels. I am sure if we were to return to Athens one day we would stay at Athens Gate unless by then they have created a much more modern hotel located conveniently with spectacular views of the Acropolis.

Good value for money and a great location for the Parthenon and other main sightseeing attractions. Also very close to Plaka district which has a good variety of restaurants, all seeming to serve nice food, service very friendly as well.

The hotel restaurant has one of the best views of the Parthenon, great during the day and brilliant at night when it's lit up.

Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: High floor with a view of the Temple of Mount Athena or for extra cost a Parthenon view.
