This hotel was simply wonderful - the staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel is in great condition (looks so new!), the rooms are clean and very modernly decorated! We were VERY impressed. Considering the location and the condition of the hotel the price was excellent! I booked the hotel directly from their website but had to phone them for certain details and it was difficult to get in contact with them.

The location is simply wonderful. A short walk from the subway station, directly across the stress (literally!) from Temple of Zeus, 15 minute walk from Monastiraki flea market, 10 minute walk to the Acropolis.

The views from the roof top restaurant is just excellent - you can see, of course, Temple of Zeus and have a good view of the Acropolis. The breakfast was wonderful!

Despite the slight difficulty in booking the hotel, I would highly recommend this hotel given the price, location, good customer service and ambiance of the hotel :)

The hotel is very close to Acropolis (via a pleasant walk across Plaka) and is just right in front of the Temple of Zeus.

As the hotel is right in the middle of downtown Athens, the noise can be somewhat disturbing, especially if your room is in the lower floors or facing the street.

The hotel has recently been refurbished and the rooms are small but modern. The hotel is fairly good value and this, together with the location makes this hotel quite popular. I felt that the service suffered as a result.

We stayed at the Athens Gate on our recent trip to Athens. It's in a perfect location for anyone wanting to visit the Parthenon and the Plaka area. The rooms are clean, modern and ours had a magnificent view of the Acropolis. The restaurant has a great panoramic view of the city and is a great place to get your bearings before setting out. We recommend the hotel highly to anyone visiting Athens.

We just returned from our honeymoon in Greece and started the trip off for two nights at the Athens Gate (which we choose because of the reviews on this site). We were so happy we choose to stay there. The location with how close it is to the Acropolis and Plaka is fantastic. After walking around for a few days and seeing some of the other neighborhoods, I was so happy we didn't overspend for one of the ultra expensive places near Syntagma Square. The Athens Gate had a small, boutique feel, clean and efficient rooms, an amazing rooftop restaurant with spectacular views and great breakfasts/dinners. Location was exactly where you want to be for a few days of sightseeing and interest in the charm of walking to some of the cafes at night. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would return again if going back to Athens.

We researched a ton of hotels before deciding on Athens Gate and were very pleased with our choice. The location is very central. Walking distance to everything - acropolis, plaka etc. and the port is a short cab ride away. The rooms were well done with all modern conveniences. The staff was very accommodating of all our requests. The view of the acropolis from the restaurant on top is a must not miss. We only had the breakfast there once, it was excellent.

Reservation: We booked through splendia.com, which we found randomly when googling the hotel. The rates appeared just slightly cheaper than the hotel's on website. The process was straightforward and a confirmation email was received.

Check-in: When we arrived, we were offered glasses of cool water and a dish of Greek delights (Turkish delights by another name). Reception staff were cooly efficient, however, the room was not ready at 12noon when we arrived, so they offered to hold our bags and we went out for lunch. When we got back, we found our bags, together with lots of other bags, next to the reception, which I didn't think was particularly secure. We got our keys, picked up the bags (no attempts was made to identify our luggage tags) and went up to the room.

Room: This was European sized (i.e. not huge), clean, modern, flat screen TV, average sized toilet with a shower. The air-condition took a while to cool down the room but was otherwise adequate. The view of the Temple of Zeus was outstanding and we had a small balcony to view it from. Bathrobes and slippers were provided. Highspeed internet was available at a charge, it worked well, and wasn't desperately expensive but still should have been free. The hotel is on a very busy road and despite the glazed windows, which kept out some of the noise, I was still woken up by cars honking in the middle of the night.

Restaurant: This was great. On the top floor with panaromic views of Athens all the way to the Acropolis. Lots of great photo oppourtunities from the restaurant. Dinner was reasonably priced and above average but it was a joy just to sit there over dinner watching the sun gradually set over the acropolis. Another highlight was the efficient and friendly waiting staff. Breakfast was the usual suspects, eggs, sausages, cereal, bread, pastries, fruit salad and greek yougurt.

Location: This is fantastic. Let's be honest, the main reason for visiting Athens is to pay homage to the acropolis. The hotel is 7 minutes to the entrance of the Acropolis, and to the new museum, and 5 minutes to the Plaka. The Plaka might be touristy but it was still a lively place to stroll around, do a bit of touristy shopping, and get a bite to eat. The Acropolis is a must-see, just be warned that it involves a not so gentle 30 minute walk up-hills from the entrance.

Check-out: We requested and received a late check-out to 2pm. Again, this was friendly and efficient and they offered to order a cab for us, which arrived within 5 minutes.

Overall, I do recommend this hotel. It ticks all the boxes for a city break hotel and the location is unbeatable. Free internet would be ideal and wear earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

Good hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, from check in to storing bags - they were courteous and pleasant. The hotel is within very close walking distance to the Metro, which is well laid out and handy. The hotel is modern and nicely finished.
The rooms are not huge, but a reasonable size, well laid out and comfortable. The bed was quite hard. The views from our room were amazing (viewing the Temple of Zeus). The bathroom was nice as well, the only strange thing was the shower - the way that it's designed the bathroom gets flooded everytime you take a shower - not a big deal at all, just strange.
The location is superb with walking distance to Plaka and the Acropolis among other great sights.
The buffet breakfast choices were varied and good, but extremely busy - be prepared to stand in line first thing in the morning, coffee service was quite slow because there was only one waitress, she was apologetic - we did see several tables leave without her ever getting to their table to offer coffee.
The only complaint we have is the noise from the street below - being a large city the traffic never ends so throughout the night you hear honking horns, squealing brakes and motors revving; it was exhausting and very unrestful - even with earplugs we could feel the vibrations and hear a lot of the noise. We were only here for one night otherwise we would have asked to be moved. The doors and windows are not noise insulating at all. I find it strange that more people don't comment on this, we are relatively sound sleepers but this was unbearable.
In summary - good hotel but we recommend you book the view of the Acropolis (not front street side) or go elsewhere.
