“Wedding at Herodion - AMAZING!”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

In September, my wife and I traveled from the US and were married in Athens at the rooftop terrace of the Herodion Hotel; the experience was nothing short of magical. I don't know if my review will be able to truly capture the enchantment of the evening, from the illuminated Parthenon as a backdrop to our ceremony, to the delectable dishes prepared by the chefs, to the exemplary & immensely friendly staff. Every aspect of our wedding was perfect, thanks to the Herodion.

The entire staff of the hotel provided my wife and I the most warmth and professionalism that we've experienced in quite some time. Every whim was accommodated with a smile. Every single person working in the hotel by the second day of our stay knew my wife and I personally and went above and beyond to make our stay special. Everyone.

By comparison, earlier this year we spent a few nights at the Ritz Carlton in Toronto, a brand recognized for service, and they could not hold a candle to the staff at Herodion. Panos Z. was our wedding liaison and on top of being extremely efficient and prompt with his responses leading up to the wedding, when we met in person his calm demeanor kept my wife and I completely at ease. We quickly realized that no matter what curve balls were thrown our way that we would be well taken care of with Panos managing our affair.

I've noticed a few people posting that the rooms were dated, which is somewhat true. I'm sure room renovations are scheduled for the not too distant future since the rest of the hotel was modern and stunning. And having stayed in Athens at the Lledra Marriott prior (a very nice American-style hotel) I can attest to the importance of location, since the Marriott as well as a number of other hotel chains are located about 2 miles away from Plaka in a graffiti-riddled section of Athens that, while may or may not be dangerous, certainly warrants one to be aware while walking around later at night.

The Herodion helped make our wedding even more special than I thought was possible. My wife and I plan to visit Greece as often as we can and will never spend a night at any other hotel. They're our family now.

Your description of our hotel and quality of service is an honor for which we thank you, but it also does justice to our constant efforts.
The motto of our family run hotel has, ever since it started operating 37 years ago, been “to treat the client as a guest at home”. Thank you for being with us and your HERODION Family surely waits to welcoming you again as soon as possible.

The location of the hotel is excellent, close to the metro (Acropolis) and even easy acces with a car (there is a parking at 50 m at a BP). The street is not very busy. The rooms are clean, good bathroom and the roof terrace (view to Acropolis) is magnificient. Breakfast is OK, not very special. We ordered the coffee (for free), because the coffee from the machine was, to our opinion, horrible. The other services are also good, nice staff (including the cleaning lady). For a stay in Athens this is a very nice and good hotel. We'll certainly return.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front have a larger balcony and at the back the rooms are even more quiet (no traff...

We are very proud to have gained your recommendation. Your promise of returning is our best reward!
Truly enough we all try for the best, and are seriously client-oriented in our services; starting from Ms Eleni, our in house morning cook who caters for our buffet breakfast making sure that all home made goods are fresh and tasty [offering three different types of fresh made coffee] to the reception team and cleaning ladies.
Visit our web site page and make sure you are informed of all are offers and packages when booking for your next stay.

Thoroughly enjoyed this hotel for many reasons. Given our short itinerary in Athens, location is key. Herodion is within minimal walking distance to the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum. We chose a room with a view of the Parthenon and enjoyed the evening lights. Service always came with a smile. Breakfast was plentiful and the price reasonable. Although the rooftop was closed during our stay, it does offer a splendid view of the area. The room was basic but sufficient. Since we arrived very early, the receptionist accommodated our needs at no extra charge. Upon departure, the receptionist allowed us to leave luggage in the hotel until late afternoon without charge. There are two elevators, small but sufficient.

Room Tip: Recommend a room with a view. Your in Athens -- take it all in.

It is true that all our efforts to distinguish ourselves from the other honourable 4*s hotels of our city, ‘come with a smile’ from the client-oriented, well trained and loyal team of Herodion Hotel. Thank you for distinguishing it!

We surely hope that next time the weather will permit for you to enjoy –apart from the view- distinguished tastes of Greek/ Mediterranean cuisine at ‘POINT α’ our roof top restaurant

As I only had one night in Athens I chose this hotel due to the closeness to the Acropolis, and could not fault the location. The staff at the Herodion were very helpful and polite.
The public areas of the hotel were great but my room (225) was very tired, dated and small. The room looked out into an internal courtyard, however I was not expecting a view of the Acropolis due to the price of the room.
There was no soundproofing in the room, I could here the televisions and toilets flushing in the room next door and upstairs. I was also woken in the night by a guest shouting in the corridor and banging on doors.
Luckily my stay was only for one night, I will choose another hotel next time

Dear msb1

It is unfortunate that contrary to your satisfaction with our staff, of which we will let them know, and our hotel’s location, you did not enjoy the ambiance of your room that much. The truth is that being a single room it may be described as smallish, yet the spacious bed, storage area and amenities [coffee/ tea] offered, are pleasing to almost all our guests.
Also let me underline that our soundproof infrastructure is absolutely according to international standards, which in cases of somewhat-more enthusiastic guest walking around may not prove that adequate.

Thank you for taking from your time to share with other travellers your impressions of your visit as we are always trying to find areas of improvement.

We urge you to visit our website and learn about our different type of rooms as well as travelling offers, giving us the opportunity of welcoming you again in the future.

We had booked at the sister hotel, the Philippos, but were told at check-in that we were being "upgraded" to the Herodion. This sounded odd but turned out to be great - nicer lobby, extremely helpful desk staff, a room with a view of the Parthenon and a location very near the new Acropolis Museum. The quality of the food at breakfast was not great, but that was a minor flaw

Room Tip: Ask for the fourth floor, facing the Parthenon

Booked Herodion last minute as they could offer rooms with Acropolis view and was in Plaka district. Service was top notch! Helped with all our enquiries including booking a car for the day and having it delivered to the hotel. Yes, there was a view of the acropolis, but our balcony was directly across from a school and it's playground. Never mind, it's an urban area so that's what you get and at night the school was vacant so we could sit on the balcony and view the acropolis in peace. Room left you wanting. Felt more three star than four, however beds were comfy and shower pressure was fantastic! The up side is that the room causes you to go out and explore the city. Breakfast was excellent, plenty on offering. Hotel fine if you're looking for a place to simply wash and rest after a long day of sight seeing, eating and drinking in the city of the ancients!

Dear OzGodHermes

Our ‘top notch’ team and I personally thank you for sharing your comments with the Trip Advisor community.
It is true that some guests wish for certain rooms to have been slightly bigger but …. Herodion Hotel is situated in a distinguished calm urban neighborhood, next to the actual site of the Acropolis and within the archaeological unified area. We have recently renovated most of our rooms and will continue doing so in order to satisfy our honorable clientele.

We urge you to visit our website and learn about our different type of rooms as well as travelling offers, giving us the opportunity of welcoming you again in the future.

I chose this hotel because it is right next to the Acropolis Museum and in walking distance to the Acropolis.
The hotel itself has a modern style, the rooms are quiet. The terrace on top offers an amazing view to the Parthenon.
Breakfast buffet has a big variety, and the lobby has an elegant bar.
Two inconcenients: there is only one small elevator in the hotel which means that at peak times the waiting times are so long that you rather take the stairs plus you have to pay for internet.

Thank you for your comments. We are happy that you enjoyed our location, the hotel’s interior design which combines Greek art and articraft with elegant modern style, our rich-variety breakfast and spacious bar area.

It is true that one elevator faces the main entrance but there is also another one next to the dinning area, which we might have missed to point out.

We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again soon in our Hotel.
