Our church group stayed at the Herodian for five nights on our12 day tour of Greece. The hotel is quite central and in walking distance to many of Athen's attractions. The rooms, although not overly large, are comfortable, clean and some even have a view of the Acropolis. The beds were comfortable and I slept well. At night you can go up to the roof patio and see the Acropolis all lit up - it looks as if it is in your back yard. Our tour included both breakfast and dinner at the Herodian. The breakfast was plentiful and the food well prepared and presented (their yogurt is fabulous - with fresh fruit and muesili - yum) and the dinners were spectacular. Probably the best meals that we had while in Greece - four courses that were not only delicious, but the presentation was good too. The service in the diningroom was top notch and the maitre d'hote - Constantino - was not only charming, but treated us like family. I think it is fair to say that our group thought he was fabulous. In fact, we told the hotel not to bother with breakfast on our last day, since we had to leave at 6 a.m. for the airport. They had the complete cold breakfast ready for us for 5:30 a.m. - they went far beyond anything we would have or could have expected.
If you see the Herodian on your group's itinerary, thank your lucky stars because we were treated like royalty.
One drawback might be that if you want to use the spa tubs, there is a charge - not something that you would expect to find in North America...but then we were in Greece.
Another drawback to Athens is the fact that pick pockets are plentiful and very skilled...so caution is advised.
