The location was top notch... could not beat the view out of the Acropolis view rooms. The room itself was small. The beds were twins that were pushed together so not a "fancy" atmosphere. The staff were wonderful and the restaurant was very good.

I have stayed at the Herodian three times in the last four years - my last stay was in June 2009. The hotel is very well located and within walking distance to most of the main sites in Athens. The subway is a short walk away.

On my last stay I booked with the Herodion's sister hotel the Phillipos and we were upgraded to the Herodian which was much appreciated. It was extremely hot when we were there and it was bliss just to chill out and relax in the rooftop jacuzzi after walking around the city during the day. Fabulous views from the roof.

My preference is definitely the rooms overlooking the street, rather than Parthenon view. The room we had with view towards the Parthenon was smaller and without a proper balcony - it was perfectly adequate for our needs though. On a previous stay I had the misfortune of being on the same floor as a school tour group and they made ridiculous amounts of noise all night - resulting in no sleep for me, however the staff were fantastic and relocated me to another floor the next morning.

The beds are extremely comfortable with quality linen. Bath/shower in the bathroom - bathrooms aren't big but they aren't too small either. Quality toiletries were provided at the time of my stay.

Spacious foyer area with seating and also a terrific bar. I didn't utilise the restaurant however ordered room service and the food was delicious. Buffet breakfast is not to be missed - considering some breakfast offerings in Greece this is a feast! However it does get busy and you may have to wait for a table.

Generally I found the staff to be helpful however I did find their attitudes a little disappointing when I was made to feel I was interrupting their conversation (whilst they were on duty) when I had problems accessing the internet and needed some assistance. My only other negative comment would be the fee they charge for the jacuzzi - surely their rates should cover this without having to charge extras.

This hotel is well appointed. Rooms are not huge but they are well designed and don't feel cramped. Finishings and furnishings are tasteful and attractive. Beds are clean and comfortable. The breakfast which is included in the room rate is the best we had in Greece, with a full range of eggs, cereals and yogurt in addition to the usual sweet breads. Best of all are the roof-top patio garden, and the roof-top hot tub where you can sit and look at the Acropolis lit up at night. Location is excellent - easy walking distance to the primary tourist attractions; and the staff are extremely friendly, helpful, and conversant in English.

Spent 4 nights in total at Herodion. The location was excellent just a 5 min walk to the Acropolis Entrance and within steps to the New Acropolis Museum. The main area of the Plaka is just around the corner as well. Staff is very helpful but not overly friendly (not a bad thing). Rooms are small but nice. If you want the Acropolis view request the 4th floor, room 411 is perfect. The roof deck is very nice as well so a room with a view is not mandatory. My only complaint is the WiFi is cumbersome to use and everyone seemed to have issues with it, and because they charge for it that made is frustrating. Breakfast was very good, as well as the restaurant in the hotel.

The hotel is very well located, on a tree lined road. Unfortunately, this narrow road is the main route to the Akropolis so during the daytime, there are large coaches, minibuses and taxis queuing to drop off their passengers at the Akropolis. (The bedrooms facing this road are well insulated so the noise does not affect you.). A few minutes walk one way brings you to the Plaka area while a few minutes walk the other brings you to the Akropolis. As others have said, the view from the roof garden is impressive (although you can only see part of the Parthenon) and it is pleasant to sit up there with a glass of wine and the scent of the jasmine hedge around the rooftop. On the fourth floor roof garden there is a jacuzzi. Given the price of rooms at the Herodion, it seems petty to charge guests to use this.

The reception area is large and spacious with numerous seating areas and at the back an atrium restaurant, all very peaceful. The restaurant food is good and made on the premises.

The rooms however, are not of a four star quality. They are all small with those at the back facing the Akropolis and overlooking a school playground being slightly larger. Our room had three single beds, one made up to look like a sofa with numerous cushions, which left little room for anything else. There was a very small built -in wardrobe which also contained a safe and the minibar so not a lot of room for clothes. The bathrooms are OK but nothing special. Be aware that there are two internal wells in this hotel, which means that on each floor, roughly six rooms face into these wells. These rooms are very dark and gloomy and not at all what you would expect from a four star hotel. I would recommend you confirm when booking that you are not going to be given one of these rooms. The corridors are narrow and dark, not helped by being painted dark green. There are two small lifts each one just large enough for a couple and their luggage.

The beds were rather strange. There was no normal mattress. Instead, sitting on top of the divan box was a coco-mat mattress topper which normally goes on top of the mattress rather than instead of it. Despite this, the bed was quite comfortable. The pillows were foam and not as comfortable as feathers.

As well as the dining area there is a breakfast room. Of all the places we had stayed in the preceding fortnight, the breakfast here had the most limited choice but was adequate. There is WiFi for which a small charge is made.

Had this been a 3* hotel and priced accordingly, I would probably have given a more positive review. However this hotel is priced as a 4* hotel (rack rate €220 per night) and therefore is expected to be of a higher quality. I do not think the bedrooms reflect this.

I stayed at the Herodion Hotel in September 2010 for a long weekend with 4 friends. The location is perfect. It is only a few streets away from one of the main entrances to the Acropolis and is literally round the corner for the new Acropolis museum. The view from the outdoor jacuzzi was unbeatable - it was none less than the Acropolis. Add the fact that the hotel happily delivered a glass of wine to us while in the jacuzzi within 5 minutes of the request it made the whole thing very special! : )The rooftop garden was beautiful with Jasmine flowers surrounding the seating area. The staff were very friendly and most helpful. The breakfast was buffet style with lots to choose from such as bread, yoghurt, honey, cheese, eggs, cakes, fruit, cold cuts etc etc. I highly recomment this hotel.

Wether for business or city trip, Hotel Herodion is perfect located south of Acropolis. A Subway station is only 300m away and the new Acropolis museum is in the direct neighborhood.
From the roof terrace you have a beautiful view on the Acropolis (unfortunately no pool on the terrace, only Jacouzzi): Anyway, perfect place to have a sundowner!
Friendly staff, breakfast is o.k. (although it always the same). The rooms are small but space is sufficient as long was don't want to stay in the room during the whole day.
