A perfect address, central and conveniently located. Kind service people, the single rooms are a little bit too tiny, but the furniture and service are more than enough for a business trip. Nice breakfast in the mezzanine.

This the poor sister of the Electra palace hotel which belongs to the luxury category. A basic hotel with very small single rooms but nice doubles for only 20 euros more. The location is perfect, close to metro, bus to airport, Syntagma square (so you have constant police presence!) and it is on a pedestrian street so traffic is not a problem (although the street life is very noisy almost any time of the day). The old city and Monastraki are nearby and can be reached either by walking or by tram and metro. The hotel has a nice bar which opens to the street and a good breakfast on the second floor. The corridors are narrow and the lifts very slow so those who like walking save some time. The staff is efficient and helpful but not exceedingly friendly. Good TV but no BBC when I was there. There are cheaper hotels with same level of service and amenities but certainly not easier to find and better placed. I was happy with the breakfast and especially the orange pressing machine was great and very good choice of fresh fruit. And excellent yoghurt! Rooms are well isolated and when you close the window, you don't hear any outside noise. The air conditioning is efficient and easily regulated and can be turned off. Beds were a little too soft for me, but surely nice for lovers! On the other hand this is not a very romantic hotel, cosy and efficient is the word.

Room Tip: The higher up the better, but remember that the lifts are slow, so you may have to wait.

The Electra Hotel is conveniently located on Ermou right in the heart of Plaka opposite Syntagma Square. It's location is perfect for exploring all the major archeological sites in Athens. The Acropolis, ancient Agora and Temple of Zeus are all within walking distance. The room is rather small but with so many attractions around the vicinity, it is not an important issue. Free wifi access is limited to the common areas and restaurant. Breakfast is a satisfactory buffet spread but service can be wanting at peak times between 8 and 9 am. Overall, Electra Hotel is a good hotel for you to explore the major attractions of Athens.

Room Tip: Perfectly located in the heart of the Plaka and Syntagma.

Positives: Great location on Ermou St next to Syntagma Square, easy to walk into the Plaka, Acropolis, Monostraki Square, flea markets. Super easy access to the metro, fleets of taxis at Syntagma to take you anywhere. Ermou St is packed with shopping, bakeries, taverns, etc and is pretty lively in the late afternoon, early evening,

Room size is adequate for a downtown hotel, decent bathroom, clean. The breakfast is pretty good, not great but OK. Bed and pillows comfortable, bed was soft especially compared to other Greek hotels where you sleep on a board. Price was good value for this location.

Most of the staff were super kind and helpful. A doorman guy helped my wife with the internet to print boarding passes, which is not easy when dealing with Air France in Greek! He also arranged a taxi pickup for 4:45 am to the airport and helped arrange a flat fee of 40 euros for the taxi to the airport. (this is the regular rate but it goes up between midnight and 5am so I thought that was nice).

Down side- the nonsmoking room smelled of cigarettes. The room was fairly noisy but given the location on Ermou it could have been much worse. Sleeping with earplugs helped. The hotel has an aged feel, but I still think it is a value compared to the 4-5 star places in the neighborhood. No free wifi but you can walk to Syntagma square and use wifi free there, 1 minute from the hotel door. One of the front desk staff was quite curt and not helpful, but the other staff made up for her attitude.

I would stay here again given the location and value. If you are looking for a luxury hotel go elsewhere, but this was comfortable and we were able to access all the major sights easily.

This hotel has a wonderful location, you can walk to most of the sites, and very near a lot of shopping and restaurants. The desk service is curt. The business center is difficult to use. There is a charge for internet- always a downer- when I visit hotels. The room was clean and nice, however, we were disappointed because we asked for a nonsmoking room, and the room and bed linens smelled like smoke, there was even an ashtray in the room. Back down to the desk, and again they assured us it was a non-smoking room. We were bummed out because it was the first really comfortable bed after 2 weeks in Greece. It is a little optimistic in Athens, getting a non-smoking room. The breakfast buffet was nice. Sit by the orange juice machine. It is a little comic watching people including us, figure out how it works.

Room Tip: Make sure if you ask for a non-smoking room to check it prior to accepting it.

Since my favorite Electra Palace Hotel was fully booked we have tried for the first time the sister hotel Electra. Hotel has been completely renovated in 2011. Rooms have a friendly interior, but mattresses are too soft.
Breakfast service was not up to my expectations. Staff quite rude.

This hotel in "palaka area" is in a fantastic location. Its walking distance from all the nice hotels and bazars.

The hotel is 20 minutes max from the airport, 2 minutes from little palaka bazars, 5 minutes walk to the shopping district and Center square "where the subway/metro" is and just few minutes away from so many places to eat at.

Its clean, cozy and makes you feel home. Staff are friendly and so helpful. The place is safe and you may keep your stuff at the hotel to store when you are away touring around the islands or even traveling away from Athens for couple of days.

You may find one of the best restaurants next to the hotel called "pisirass", do not leave the area without tasting its food. Believe me you will never forget it or regret it.

Note: there are tow Electra Hotels in the Center. Choose the one in palaka and not the shopping district "its more quiet and away from all the noise at night and in day time".

Room Tip: Do not stay at the 5th floor as the noise of the coffee shop may reach to your room and not next to...
