We have recently spent the Easter break at the Electra Hotel. We cannot say enough about the quality of our room, the standard of breakfast available and the very courteous and helpful staff. Very central location for lucky tourists. Highly recommend

great location, at edge of Plaka (old town tourist area)' can walk to all major sites. Easy to get to from airport, right at Metro station. Staff, service, and breakfast 1st class. Although on noisy street, room was very quiet.

I have stayed at the Electra several times in the past. They have recently been renovated, and the result looks stunning.

However, perhaps they should have spent a little money on the air conditioning and heating system. The temperature outside was 24 C, and in my room it was stiflingly hot. The air conditioning was not working - only a fan. I asked for something to be done. A member of the housekeeping staff, who spoke no English, arrived, turned the fan off and stared at me as if I was an idiot. She then opened the window further than I had.

When I complained further at reception, it was explained to me that the air conditioning was turned off throughout the hotel because the system needs a month or more to go from heating to cooling, and would break if this wasn't done. I pointed out the hotel's website which states "Air-Conditioning & Central Heating" as standard room facilities. Note the "&" - not "or".

I was moved to a rather cooler room, which still needed the door to the small balcony open to remain at a tolerable temperature. Sadly, the room was over Ermou Street, so I then had much noise late at night.

Both the breakfast room and the restaurant are understaffed.

Being charged €10 for wifi in the rooms was also, I felt, over the top.

This could be a great hotel, in a very good location. But it's not at present. It needs money to be spent on renovating its air conditioning/heating system, more staff, and more imaginative management.

For a **** hotel, it's not appropriate for such complaints to have to be made.

The hotel was recently renovated and is a great value. The rooms are decorated in an elegant style and have some newer appointments, including new showers. The room I had was on the smaller size but for the price and being in a conference nearby the whole day it fit the bill since I wasn't going to be spending my time in the room the whole time. The room was a bit warm so I had to open the window, which then made it a bit noisy. But the beds and pillows were comfortable. The hotel is in a great location and you can walk to Syntagma square, cool shops and restaurants all right on the doorsteps of the hotel. The breakfast was substantial and the staff very polite and friendly. If you are in Athens for business, I think this is a great option for a hotel.

Electra Hotel is located right in the center of Athens. Wifi free of charge is only at the lobby or in the dining room at first floor. Excellent and friendly staff speaking good English. I've got a room with a pretty view on Acropolis :)

Stayed in Electra Hotel some years ago and got the greatest impression.
We stayed again now, end of February 2014, but unfortunately we were very disappointed by the service. First of all the hotel is in a great location in the center of Athens. Right in the heart of Ermou Street, easy access to almost every place of interest either on foot or with public transportation. Syntagma Metro station is only 3 minutes away, the same with bus station.
Check in was slow and staff at reception were sometimes rude and with no smile. They were giving the impression that was bored to deal with all these people.
The room we stayed on the 8th floor was very spacious, comfortable with all amenities and clean. Espresso coffee maker was available in the room. Bathrobe and slippers were also available. The bed was comfy and pillows too.
Elevator was too slow and going up and down from the 8th floor was difficult.
The big surprise was when we showed up for breakfast the first time. Short of staff for all those people, meaning you had to wait for ages for a cup of coffee. Two waiters running up and down for all these people, imagine what was happening. In no way you could blame the waiters, they were trying hard to do their best, but unfortunately that was impossible. When I serve my self some food I was wondering around with the plate in my hands for 5 minutes to find a table to seat and when I finally sat down I was waiting for 5 minutes for fork and knife and an other 10 minutes for some coffee. This was going on every morning. This is unacceptable for a 4 star Hotel. I understand we are going through difficult times and probable they reduced staff, but not in expense of customers. It's a shame for this hotel.
An other minor for this hotel is the charge of Wi-Fi in rooms. Free wi-fi is available in common areas but not in the rooms.
Except of the above, I have to admit that we had a great time due to the fact that the location is perfect. So I will surely stay here again.
The management should consider all the above remarks as suggestions for improvement and not as complain.

The location is good and the staff are very polite and helpful. However, my single room was tiny and the air conditioning didn't work. As even in February the room was far too hot, I had to open the window which let in a worryingly noisy insect. Some sections of the hotel are in need of a face-lift, with some curtains being really dirty and grubby.I had to pay for WiFi in the room, but it was very slow and unreliable. I could use email and download a few PODs, but that was the limit.

On balance I would not go back.
