Very friendly staff. Breakfasts offered tasty healthy options unlike most Continental breakfasts in US. Quiet location near the Acropolis was wonderful. It was near most of the historic places we wanted to be. It was also near public transportation for longer travels.

Room Tip: Small but clean. A/C so/so.

The Philippos is about 2 blocks from the Aparhanon and the Plaka yet it was in a very safe area. The flexibility of being able to go back and forth to our room (we were traveling with a 12 and 14 year old) was unbeatable. The hotel is very basic but clean. There is a nice breakfast which is included but there are no onsite restaurant services, which isn't an issue because you're so close to 100's of places to eat in the Plaka district. We were supposed to have a family room for 4 but we were upgraded to two separate rooms across the hall from each other. One room was very small (but that is to be expected in a city) and one was quite large with a small balcony. The only thing that would've made it perfect was a pool, but as we found out either you have a great location or you have a lousy location and pool. Well worth the trade off.

We stayed here for one night before getting on a cruise ship. If possible, ask for room 603. It has a balcony with a view of the Acropolis and it is an amazing view at night. It's a very large room although our friend's room was smaller and had a different view. The front desk staff were very helpful and the breakfast met our expectations. It was so easy to walk to the Acropolis and other sites from the hotel. We definitely recommend this hotel if you are planning to stay in Athens.

Room Tip: room 603 is awesome

It's a smaller hotel in a very good location, on a quiet street just a few minutes walk from the Acropolis. There are lots of restaurants, bars and cafes just around the corner, along with the Metro station. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, and the hotel is clean and modern, with nice decor. My room was very small compared to the other hotels I've used in Athens, but then again, it's not like I spent much time in the room. There was a fairly good breakfast buffet included in the price, mostly cold food. I was disappointed that they didn't have fresh orange juice in a city where oranges grow literally in the streets! The room had a fridge, and excellent air conditioning. There was a charge to use the room safe, and also for the hotel's internet service (2 euros for 30 minutes). Most of the pillows in the room were very hard - it took me three nights to settle on one that I was comfortable with! The hotel also has one of my pet peeves: hotel guests generally bring suitcases with them, so why have a bunch of steps and no ramp at the front door? The hotel entrance is locked at 9pm every night, but there is a night porter in case you have problems using your room key to open it. Overall though I was happy with the hotel, it was definitely good value, and I would use it again.

Our family of 4 (two kids aged 11 & 9) stayed at the Phillipos for three nights in late May. I was looking for a hotel that was clean, in a good location and close to everything we wanted to see: the Phillipos was all of that.

We had a large room with a double and two single beds (one was a sofa bed) and a large balcony. The hotel is just a minute's walk from the pedestrian walkway at the base of the Acropolis and from there is just a stroll into Plaka and all the ancient sites. It is probably less than a minute from the New Acropolis museum (which is a must see, in my opinion). We walked everywhere: Acropolis, the entire Pedestrian walkway, Syntagma Sq, through Plaka many times, the Panhelenic Stadium, the National Gardens, all the Ancient sites. We taxi'd to and from the airport.

The breakfast was standard greek but plentiful and the staff were helpful and pleasant. There is a large sitting area downstairs and a couple of computers for internet access. You need to pay for this but I'm not sure of the cost as we had internet included in our rate.

Overall we were happy with our stay and thought we received value for the room rate we paid.

Our stay at Philippos Hotel was very good. The breakfast was very filling & lots of variety. The rooms were always clean & cool (especially as it was 38 degrees outside!!) The staff was very friendly & helpful. So close to the Acropolis & everything else! The new museum was only a 3 minute walk up the street, & just a little further, wonderful restaurants & then shops. We spent our 2 days there walking around the Acropolis & visited all the attractions. No need for public transport or tourist buses that's for sure. Thank you for a relaxing stay.
