We were on a trip with three people, so having the single room made it more expensive. The Philppos Hotel is a good budget hotel, clean and in a great location. It has a sister hotel round the corner which you can have drink or a meal at, on their roof if you wish. Ther are alot of hotels in Athens to choose from so I would probably stay somewhere else next time but like I say, this is a cleam, friendly, budget hotel. Athens is a really great city and I really enjoyed myself.

Dear Gemz82

Thank you for staying with us and for your review. It is true that PHILIPPOS is a good budgethotel with many 4* options deriving from its sister-property HERODION hotel. A unique opportunity for our guests!

Spent 5 nights here visiting all the sights of central Athens. Very convenient to walk to all the major sites, quiet at night but also convenient for restaurants and shopping. Thoroughly recommend for a convenient place with clean rooms and good service.

Room Tip: We had a room on the north side and could see the Acropolis!

Firstly, the location could not be better. Right down the road from the New Acropolis Museum and from there, just a short walk to the acropolis itself. For the hotel itself, the breakfast was great. The rooms were nothing spectacular but the bed was comfy and the water was warm. Would recommend staying here for a good-value stay

The Philippos is practically a stone's throw from the Acropolis (okay, maybe a bow-shot). We searched a number of hotels in central Athens, and this was easily the best combination of reasonable price and good location. It is two blocks from the new Acropolis Museum (which is worth a long visit); just past the museum are the entrances to the Acropolis site and the Plaka neighborhood. Even a walk to Syntagma Square is comfortable (though if you're headed there for the changing of the guard, go late in the day so they are not in the shadow of the Parliament!).

The staff could not have been more pleasant, helpful, or business-like. Every request -- negotiating the neighborhood, traveling on the metro, dealing with a car rental, getting connected to wifi -- was met with gracious competence.

The included breakfast was excellent. Can't get enough of greek yogurt and honey! If you're a coffee-lover, avoid the self-serve machine and ask for an espresso, which the kitchen staff will cheerfully make.

The only downside was the size of our room -- the space was tight enough that managing our two suitcases was challenging -- and the lack of view. But it was kept scrupulously clean, the bed was comfortable, and there was a lovely solarium just off the lobby if we wanted to lounge and read or write. We weren't in Athens to spend waking hours in the room, in any case.

If we were headed back and the higher rates weren't an issue, we might select the sister hotel, Herodion, which has a fine rooftop restaurant and outdoor hot tubs. But for our budget we would gladly return to the Philippos and recommend it to other travelers.

Dear j522

Thank you for doing us justice in such a detailed way! Your promise of returning is the best support to our non ending efforts to single out PHILIPPOS among the other 3*-around-the Acropolis hotels. Cleanliness, courtesy, good quality in everything that we offer are among our priorities. As for the size of the rooms, it is true that they might feel somewhat tight, yet being so close to the Acropolis does not allow for much space!

The verdict : good to very good.
We have stayed twice at the Phillippos.
We need a hotel near to the action without being in the middle of it, a hotel that is clean, quiet, with a good breakfast. The Phillippos supplies this and more eg staff are helpful and the hotel is close to the metro.

Stayed one night in early May 2014. Booked on Saturday 3rd and requested a view of the Acropolis.
Arrived Monday 5th May, we were early and the room was not ready, the friendly receptionist checked us in- no problem we were able to store our luggage securely and went our to explore the fantastic city of Athens.

We came back to be allocated room 603, top of the house. This room was actually a family room, very spacious with its own balcony running the length of the room. It had a table plus 4 chairs and two sunloungers and a brilliant view of the Acropolis.

The room was not the most modern but clean and the linen was fresh, bathroom decent and well presented. Bed was comfrotable and in the two closets were additional pillows and bedding if required.

Breakfast was included and this was susbtantial with enough choice to cater for a range of tastes. The only issue was the breakfast area was small and busy which created a mild chaos;
However this did not detract from the pleasant surroundings of the breakfast area. Staff very attentive and empty tables were prompltly cleared.

The location is excellent, a stones throw from the metro and Acropolis and convenient for exploring.

All in all a pleasant stay and would reccomend it if your were looking for a place to spend a few days. Ask for a view when booking.

Room Tip: Ask for a view when booking- room 603

Hotel Philippos is a standard 3 star place and doesn't pretend to be anything more. You want to stay here for its incredible location though. It's walking distance from the Acropolis, Hadrian's gate, the Plaka area, the metro station, the tram, Syntagma square and the most interesting Thissio market. There's tonnes of choices in terms of restaurants near by and access to the airport by train is pretty easy. If your day is packed with activity it's a good location to have a hotel in, in case you need to take a break or drop stuff off in your room.

The breakfast is modest but satisfying - don't miss out on the awesome creamy Greek yogurt. The staff is pleasant and helpful with directions, tips and are happy to call a cab for you etc.

The room was clean, had a safe and decent storage space. However, we had twin beds pretending to be a double bed. Was a bit of pain for my wife and me to keep pushing the two mattresses together to form a double bed!

So, go here if you want to spend more time in awesome Athens city and less time in lounging around the hotel

Room Tip: Dont stress if you don't get a room facing the Acropolis. You keep seeing it from pretty much ev...

Dear MadhavSrinivasan

Thank you for your review. It is true that Philippos hotel is nicely located absolutely-right-in-the-middle of most [if not all] of the important tourist attractions, in a tranquil upscale urban area, close but not in Plaka and with easy access to transportation. Thank you for appreciating the kindness and helpfulness of our team.
We are sorry we were not able to satisfy your request about the double bed since we were fully booked for those days at the end of April. This has been addressed with the team to prevent such situations and ensure consistent delivery of our high standards and the satisfaction of our guests.
