“Best place to stay in Athens”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2014

I stayed in Philippos Hotel for 4 nights. Perfect base if you want to visit Acropolis, which you can easily find with 5-10 minutes walk. Very friendly staff, tasty breakfast. Coffee and tea available for free for all guests ( free of charge). Rooms small, but comfortable and clean. Free Wi fi.

The hotel is ideally located to visit the Acropolis and the museum which are almost around the corner. Also Plaka is not far away. But the best was the staff (and in particular Elias) who were very friendly and helpful. We booked the rooms through an online site, but they had not paid for our room upon our arrival (though the money was already from our account). He kept on phoning the travel agent and was very patient (he hung on the phone for over an hour) and was very persistent to get everything in order. thank you elias and colleagues !

Perfect for visiting Acropolis (hiking shoes, a hat & sunscreen are musts!) for 12€, unless, like me, you are an over-65 EU citizen, in which case, flash your passport at the ticket seller, and you'll pay only half. Half-price also at the New Acropolis Museum. In case your knees are not up for the Acropolis challenge, or if it's already 10:30 (start of the hottest part of the day in the four summer months), I recommend spending the hot hours at the New Acropolis Museum. From the Philppos, it took us seniors 7 minutes at a slow shuffle to get to the museum. You youngsters will likely do it in half the time.

In my communique with the hotel, I requested a non-smoking room, which was quiet and had a view of the Acropolis. Ask and ye shall receive, Mom always quoted: I got all three requests! OK, OK, it was a partial view of the Acropolis, but it was enough to signal us that we were really in Greece. Comfortable small hotel, safe neighborhood. Helpful staff, including breakfast servers & front-desk personnel. Liked their ecology-conscious request: place this card on your bed if you require a change of sheets, or help the environment by saving water and overuse of detergents harmful to the environment. Room was tip-top in cleanliness. Coffee & tea available on lobby floor at any hour. Lift broke down during our stay, and instead of having to hike up several flights, the receptionist right away offered a most welcome ride on the staff's elevator. (P.S. Lift was repaired within the next couple of hours.) Monta, seeing me struggle to make myself cafe au lait with the coffee maker, offered to make hot milk specially for me. Breakfast could be more Greek, IMHO: Give us some good feta cheese -- no need for Kraft Food products. Also, what's with the canned peaches? Why not some good Greek fresh fruit, whatever is in season? I appreciated the yogurt (a Greek product) and honey (presumed to be Greek as well).

Room Tip: If you're using booking-dot-com, make your request (e.g., smoke-free, Acropolis view) KNOWN! Th...

We thank you for taking time to review us on TripAdvisor. Your explicit description of all the merits of PHILIPPOS hotel as well as the acknowledgment of the friendliness of our staff is very much appreciated; be sure that we will pass on the message to Monta!
As for the breakfast, the canned peaches, even them, are greek -and are a great hit- while there is a platter with fresh fruit of the season, together with in-house home-made bread, sweets, loukoumades…

We arrived early in the morning before usual check in. We needed some sleep before a long tour scheduled for the early afternoon. The hotel was able to give us another room to rest up and even some extra time at check out. Location is great and the hotel is very clean.

As mentioned by many reviewers, this hotel is in an excellent location, right next to the Museum, and the Acropolis. The Plaka area is a short walk, and it's a very pleasant area. The hotel was clean, and the staff was friendly and helpful. We had a double and a triple room for our family of 5 and I will say the rooms are quite small, even by European standards. Still, it served our purposes well. I thought the breakfast was of good quality and there was a reasonable amount of choices for a continental breakfast. The hotel was a very good value for us, and we would stay there again.

Thank you for your promise of returning. Your comments make us very proud of our elegant small, good-valued hotel! I noted your feed back regarding the size of the rooms, yet I have to underline the fact that space is a very “rare and valuable” merit when situated so close to the Acropolis!
