In July/August 2014, I co-led a US university study abroad program that lodged at the Philippos Hotel for several days. Our experience was uniformly excellent in all ways. The rooms and other facilities and services, the staff, the breakfasts, etc., were perfect. And what a great location. ~100 meters to the Acropolis museum, close to metro and bus links, groceries and restaurants, self-service laundry facilities, and, of course, the Acropolis, Temple of Apollo Zeus, and the Plaka. What a wonderful place from which to base a study experience in Athens and Greece.

Dear sdb319

Such a comment coming from “students” interested in history and civilization is very valuable! It is true that we very much enjoy accommodating school, university or other academic people at PHILIPPOS.
Thank you for your feed back and thank you for your post.

The hotel is around the corner of the Acropolis and the Metro station, near restaurants and a short walking distance to the Flaka. I wouldn't stay any where else in Athens. It is a small hotel, very clean, intimate, great breakfast, the rooms in 5th-6th floors have the acropolis view. I had a single room, not big but very comfortable. Free WiFi in the room. The staff are all very helpful and the sister hotel around the corner has a great bar on the 5th floor with the beautiful view of the Acropolis.
I will stay there any time I'll be in Athens. The price was good, taking all into consideration- the prime location, good breakfast and the price it is a 5* hotel.

Room Tip: Some rooms on floors 5th and 6th have the Acropolis view.

Great hotel, and not just 'for the price'. Great location for restaurants, walking around, walking to Acropolis. Friendly staff, everything was nice! We would definitely stay here again and again! The area felt very safe, we didn't have any issues with taxi or metro.

As a first time international traveler, I wasn't sure what to expect from lodgings in a foreign country. I'm happy to say that I was blown away by the hospitality, cleanliness and access to the sights and sounds of Athens provided by the Philippos Hotel. The front desk staff were always friendly and helpful. The rooms, although tiny, were clean and had balconies with a beautiful view of the Acropolis at night. The free wi-fi was a big plus, allowing me to communicate with friends and relatives back in the States. And the breakfasts were simple but tasty and a great way to start the day, while saving a few Euros. If I ever find myself in Athens again, I will be sure to stay at Philippos.

The location of the hotel is great. About ten minute walk to the Acropolis. The Acropolis Museum is even closer. (The museum is great. I'm glad I visited the museum after I had seen the site. The museum helps picture what had been at the site before). The hotel is also very close to the tourist shops and restaurants, which are fun to look at, etc.

Our bathroom was clean but Tiny! Had a 3/4 size bathtub.

Breakfast was included. So-so.

Gentleman at front desk was nice.

Bed was soft. Got to watch BBC.

Have fun traveling.

I stayed in Philippos Hotel for 4 nights. Perfect base if you want to visit Acropolis, which you can easily find with 5-10 minutes walk. Very friendly staff, tasty breakfast. Coffee and tea available for free for all guests ( free of charge). Rooms small, but comfortable and clean. Free Wi fi.

The hotel is ideally located to visit the Acropolis and the museum which are almost around the corner. Also Plaka is not far away. But the best was the staff (and in particular Elias) who were very friendly and helpful. We booked the rooms through an online site, but they had not paid for our room upon our arrival (though the money was already from our account). He kept on phoning the travel agent and was very patient (he hung on the phone for over an hour) and was very persistent to get everything in order. thank you elias and colleagues !
