We stayed at the Electra Palace Hotel in Greece based on previous tripadvisor recommendations. The public rooms of the hotel were beautiful, especially the 4th floor pool area and the 5th floor roof top dining area. A FANTASTIC view of the acropolis. Also very nice was the courtyard at breakfast. The staff were extremely helpful when a "national strike" cancelled air travel plans for some members of our group. The rooms were very clean, all ammenities were present. One disappointment was the restaurant recommendation the front desk clerk gave us for dinner. We wanted to go to an authentic "taverna" and he directed us to an expensive restaurant with mediocre food. We recognized another couple from the hotel at the restaurant, and they also had asked the desk clerk for a local place.

This hotel is amazing. The staff is helpful and nice. The rooms are gorgeous. The hotel in general is beautiful. The beds were amazingly comfortable. The room service was expensive but delicious.

My husband and my two boys aged 11 and 9 stayed at the Electra Palace for 2 nights in September 2011. They made us hire 2 rooms which was unnecessary as we would have fitted quite comfortably in one room. The roof top pool was amazing the view of the Acropolis was breath taking... The breakfast is great with a lot of Greek food on the menu. The Electra Palace is in a TOP location close to everything... I highly recomend it...

Room Tip: Level 4 is the best level to stay on as the Pool is on this level.

We booked a superior Acropolis view room and upon check-in we were upgraded to a suite with a huge balcony overlooking the Acropolis! We noted it was our 10yr anniversary when booking and we definitely appreciated the upgrade. Stayed in room 601 and although it was by the elevator it wasn't noisy at all. When you arrive they give you a fruit basket and a bottle of Greek wine. It was actually a really good red wine that i enjoyed on our balcony that evening. It has a great location - close to Plaka and Syntagma square but on a more quiet side street. The lobby is stunning, one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in during my travels in Europe. Our room was huge by European standards, with nice furnishings, a comfortable queen bed, large bathroom with robes, slippers and Clarins toiletries. Definitely a nice surprise after our stay in Santorini that had a rock hard bed, scratchy towels and lukewarm water. Only disappointment was that the rooftop restaurant was booked for a special occasion the night of our anniversary so we had to make alternate plans. The staff were very helpful with making a reservation for us at Daphne's though. The breakfast was good with quite a bit of variety including some hot items and fresh fruit. I loved sitting out in the beautiful courtyard with a hot cup of coffee in the mornings.
Originally we had wanted to stay at the Athen's Gate hotel, due to the great reviews. But after seeing that the Athen's gate is on an extremely busy street and the fact that we received a free upgrade at the Electra Palace made it the best choice for us in Athens.

Room Tip: The junior suites are nice with large balconies overlooking the acropolis

Stayed in a Junior Suite in mid-September 2011 for three nights; three people sharing.

This was the first 5-star hotel I have stayed in. The entrance and common areas are extremely grand. The staff are all very helpful and polite. There are a wealth of facilities free to hotel guests such as a gym, sauna, steam room and both indoor and outdoor pools. The pool on the fourth floor has a spectacular view of the Acropolis and also features a jacuzzi. As we visited in September when we did go to the pool there was seldom anyone there. Avoid the bar and restaurant unless you want to pay through the roof for drinks/food.

The hotel also offers reduced rates of parking to guests. The underground car park is right next door to the hotel and they charged quite a reasonable 9 euros/day with valet parking.

The Junior Suite was on the seventh floor and turned out to be two small rooms put together separated by a sliding door. Both rooms have A/C (although one of them seemed to not be as strong as the other) and an LCD TV. There were two single beds pushed together and also a couch, which had been made into a third single bed. My friends said the single beds were rather soft and not particularly comfortable to sleep on. The couch was extremely firm and I found it very easy to sleep on. The rooms were nicely decorated and clean.

The bathroom was a good size and I was impressed with the amount of complimentary Clarins toiletries available. There was also a jacuzzi bath. The shower was disappointingly small.

The view from the generously sized balcony was incredible; only thing to bear in mind is that the balconies are not private and are separated by small olive trees.

The hotel is situated in an excellent location - bars and convenience shops are just around the corner. It is also about 10 minutes walk to Syntagma and Plaka squares. The Acropolis is about a 15-20 minute walk.

Breakfast was good. There was a full American-style cooked breakfast available as well as waffles, pastries, bread, cold meats etc... It was a shame that the cooked items were warm rather than piping hot. One thing of special mention is the freshly squeezed orange juice - never tasted anything quite like it; most mornings at breakfast I would have several glasses of it!

To be fair this hotel did not really show me a clear difference between a 4 and 5 star hotel and I did not think it particularly good value for money. However, I did enjoy staying here and would recommend it to others who would be prepared to spend a little extra for something a bit more special.

Room Tip: For an acropolis view pick a junior/executive suite

We ended our three week trip to Turkey and Greece with a four night stay at the Electra Palace. Very luxurious and comfortable. We had a nice view of the Acropolis from our balcony. We used the rooftop pool extensively and dined in the restaurant, which had a great view of the Acropolis at night. With strikes, slowdowns, etc. in Athens you can count on spending more time in your hotel than one might expect.

Breakfasts were very good and the room was large and had all the comforts one would expect from a 5-star hotel. This was a real splurge for us and we definitely could not afford to stay in hotels like this throughout the trip, but it worked out well for our time in Athens.
