“Awesome Location with Average Service”
Reviewed 14 January 2013 via mobile

Stayed at the Electra Palace on our last day in Greece. The hotel is located at the edge of Plaka and a short walk from the Acropolis. We got a room facing the front and were a little irritated by the street noise. The room was very clean and well furnished. However we found some very basic things missing, hence the 3 rating. There is no free WiFi in rooms but only in the public areas. Here too it worked in the lobby and not in other areas. The service was sort of snooty and while we didn't have an issue with service, the staff didn't feel warm or very happy delivering the service. The breakfast was average at best. In fact it was probably one of the worst we had on our Greece trip. Honestly we expected better from a five star hotel.

Slighty disappointed with our stay in a supposed 5* Hotel. Despite being winter the room was incredibly hot and there was no cool air from the air conditioning. If you open the windows then you get all the noise from outside. Athens is a dump and the Athenians as a rule can't be trusted. Why go when you can go to Rome, Madrid or Istanbul!

We always try to stay here... wonderful location in the Plaka, superb food and the best night time view of the Acropolis at night. There is a darling little garden where breakfast (ok, but not fantastic) and coffee can be taken (the greenery is a rare luxury in Athens) and a teeny weeny little pool that is ok for kids but too small to swim in. Too hot after 1 PM.

It is expensive, true, but if you have the money, go for it. The place is well run and the staff are very helpful. Rooms are basic to good, but a bit stuffy. Staff are especially good at helping to coordinate check out and taxis, which is always nerve wracking in Greece. Only criticism was the pool staff who ordered us not to take food or snacks to the pool, which was silly because the next day, there was no problem. This person just did not want to bother.

But overall, one of the better hotels in Athens and away from the busyness of Syndagma.

Room Tip: Avoid lower-level rooms due to noise.

We enjoyed staying at Electra Palace hotel very much. The location is just perfect, within Plaka in walking distance from everywhere. The hotel itself is nice and intimate, in spite of its 150 rooms. The view of the acropolis from our nice room was a joy.
So were the nice Taverna and the wine-bar just behind the corner.

Location was so perfect that for three days we only walked. Did not even use the daily bus ticket, nor a taxi to the Express bus to the airport.
We look forward to visit again.

Room Tip: Ask for #327.

Very nice location and short walk to Plaka and shopping centre.
The only thing we did not like was the room was very hot during winter and nothing they can do about it. We need to open the window to get some fresh air otherwise it was too stuffy for sleeping. It should be a perfect stay of they can do something about it...

The location of this hotel is excellent - walking distance to most sites and in the Plaka. Many points offer an Acropolis view and they have a pleasant garden
The rooms are well appointed. The onsite restaurants are good (our fine dining experience was excellent and the breakfast buffet is solidly good - not the best I've had but good).
The one negative is that night time traffic can be quite loud. The room was hot at night and as we could not turn on cooling (it being January) we had to sleep with the windows open. That results in an exceedingly noisy night. Any traffic on those narrow streets sounds like you are on a runway. Of course, this would not be an issue if the windows were closed.
We were originally scheduled to stay at The Grand Bretagne. This was an excellent value alternative with a better location.

Hotel management should be congratulated for selecting and keeping together such an efficient, friendly and sociable personnel at every level.
Hotel has a very pleasent decoration with selective furniture, carpets and paintings.
Location is very good with very easy access to the historical places, museums, shopping centers as well as very nice restaurants and cafes.
A minor complaint could be the lack of free wifi in the rooms whereas it is available everywhere else. The compatible price rates of the rooms for a five star hotel should let the wifi free everywhere.
I think this Hotel adds value to Athens.

Room Tip: Rooms with balconies may help the smokers :)
