I stayed at the Electra Palace with my mother and husband for three nights and had a great time. The hotel's location is not just perfect but unbeatable right smack in the charming Plaka. You can go everywhere on foot and there are several cafes, restaurants and shops nearby. The hotel is very clean, the garden is charming and the lobby and public areas are plenty, comfy, and extremely welcoming. The room was spacious and the beds comfortable; the room and bathroom were very clean. We were greeted by a box of complimentary chocolates given to us at check in by a very friendly and affable Nikos, one of the most efficient staff members. I want to also mention the doorman Makis, who was very kind to my elderly mother, very polite and extremely helpful and professional. The check in and check out were fast and efficient. Breakfast was good and plentiful; their croissants are to die for. I would just recommend that they include the free wifi in the rooms and not just the public areas, and also complimentary tea and coffee in the room. There was on our arrival, but never replenished. Unfortunately, we did not get to try their famous restaurant as it was booked solid throughout our stay. Hopefully, next time. All in all, a great experience that left us with a very positive impression of our first visit to Athens. If we ever go back to Athens, this is definitely where we will stay. We will also recommend it to friends and family.

My husband and I stayed at Electra Palace Hotel for two nights right before Easter and had a wonderful stay.

The hotel is located in Plaka, in the old town of Athens, and is within easy walking distance to all of the main sights - Acropolis, Parthenon, Olympic Stadium, Museum of Acropolis, etc. We didn't need a taxi or public transportation at all; just good walking shoes. We did take a taxi to/from the airport for about 40 Euro, although you can take the Metro or bus for less.

The area around the hotel is busy with shops and restaurants, but when you walk through the doors to the hotel, you enter a quiet, spacious lobby. Check in was friendly and they remembered our request for extra towels. Our corner room with a patio (Superior Double Room) was on the top floor and had a fantastic view of the Acropolis and sunset. The room was very clean and had a wardrobe, comfortable bed, mini-bar, slippers, robes, kettle, extra pillows and higher-end toiletries. The bathroom was somewhat small (as expected), but certainly fine. It had a bidet, which took more room than I'd like. There weren't enough outlets to charge cell phones and cameras, so I had to unplug a couple lamps. The safe had plenty of space for our laptop, ipad, jewelry and passports.

Our room was very quiet the first night. However, our neighbor came home very late the second night and was quite loud (I think he was "ill" all night). I just put my ear plugs in.

The breakfast buffet was complimentary and included a wide variety of offerings: smoked salmon, fresh croissants, cereals, yogurt, scrambled and fried eggs, bacon (not crispy), sausages, cheeses, fresh bread, juices, etc. There wasn't fresh sliced fruit readily available, but they did have diced fruit that appeared to be from a can in sweet juice. You could also make your own homemade waffles in the waffle maker, but I must say - it was quite annoying to hear the very loud beeping every 3 and half minutes when someone's waffle was ready. Also, there was always a line of at least a few people waiting to make a waffle and they seemed to be annoyed by having to wait in line. We were offered coffee immediately upon sitting down and it was really good!

We dined at the Electra Roof Garden restaurant on the 6th floor and had a fantastic experience. Our table was in the corner with an unobstructed view of the acropolis (floor to ceiling windows). Service and the cuisine were top notch - truly memorable.

We received excellent assistance from a lady at the front desk on sights to see, which entrance to use, the cost, etc. It really helped us to be efficient with our day.

The night before we left and I sat down at the public computer next to the front desk to print out our boarding passes. I mistakenly thought it would be complimentary as wifi was free in public areas. I soon figured out that I needed a code from the front desk (we had one in our room). When I asked the gentleman at the front desk about it, he pointed to the sign with the cost options and wasn't as friendly as he could have been. A smile and a "sorry" would have been fine. I could have had them printed at the airport.

The bellman arranged for a taxi to the airport and was very helpful with our bags; excellent service.

I highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for easy access to the main sights in Athens, a higher-end hotel, and great service.

Room Tip: Room on the top floor with a balcony; view of the acropolis.

Very pleasant and comfortable hotel near the Acropolis. The room was a bit small, but acceptable. The bed situation was a bit odd. My wife and I had single beds placed next to each other, sort of like a 1960's TV show. Our son's bed was a converted couch that was not all that comfortable as a bed.

The hotel had an excellent free breakfast that allowed us to easily start the day without looking for food elsewhere. We really enjoyed this.

The hotel had an excellent rooftop outdoor lounge and pool with an awesome view of the Acropolis. We visited this every day.

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful with directions.

If staying in Athens again, we would most likely stay at this hotel again. The location is unbeatable.

I just returned from a week long stay the week before Easter, at the Electra Palace Hotel in Athens, with my two college age children. My pre travel research (augmented with an Athens street map) pointed to the Electra Palace as the hotel that would best meet our travel needs and requirements. What a wonderful hotel. It was the perfect choice for us.

The location in the old town Plakka on a one way street cannot be beat. The hotel is within easy walking distance to all of the attractions, and an easy walk to Syntagma Square to catch the Metro or the X95 bus to/from the airport. I suggest you take the X95 bus (5 euros per person) to/from the airport to avoid the high cab fare and notorious Athens traffic. Also the Metro workers chose to strike the day before Easter, making bus or taxi the only way to get to/from the airport on Saturday.

As we walked through the sliding glass doors into the quiet elegant lobby of the Electra Palace, we were immediately greeted by uniformed bellmen who relieved us of our burdensome luggage. Check in was a breeze and we were quickly in the elevator on the way to our lovely, spotlessly clean, well appointed room. We opted to pay for the hotel's upgraded room wifi (35 euro/wk) over the less efficient free wifi and were very happy with the signal. I would recommend this option if you are staying for a week to avoid wifi frustration.

We dined at the garden restaurant the first night, overlooking the rooftop pool and the Acropolis. The food and service were fabulous. I highly recommend at least one dinner at this restaurant. The hotel offers an amazing inclusive breakfast buffet every morning from 7:00-10:00. Everything you can imagine from make-your-own fresh waffles to smoked salmon, fresh croissants, cereals, cakes, yogurt, eggs, bacon, sausages, cheeses, fruits, juices, lunchmeats and on and on! A wonderful way to start every day in Athens! Breakfast is served in the large elegant main floor restaurant, which also serves lunch and dinner until 21:00 or 22:00. We came back from a day cruise to the islands one evening and were happy to find the excellent restaurant open with prompt, professional service.

I cannot stress enough that the entire staff from the maids to the waiters to the front desk are uniformed and professionally trained. They are attentive, kind, knowledgeable and available to do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable. Even during the harried, busy breakfast hours, the wait staff is professional, courteous and efficient. What a pleasure to stay in a hotel where they know exactly what international travelers and business people require and expect.

My son and daughter used the sundeck next to the rooftop pool several times. Sadly, the pool area was closed for a few days for maintenance. The Electra Palace offers the only outdoor pool in the Plakka area and was a big factor when we chose this hotel. There is an indoor pool, which really is a big, shallow hot tub, but it closes at 18:00 or 20:00 depending on the night, and we were never able to use it. A later closing time would be more accommodating for guests who arrive back at the hotel after an early dinner.

Since we were visiting Greece very early in the season, we chose to use Athens as a base and planned several day trips to Delphi and to the Saronic Islands. Although the front desk staff would have been more than happy to arrange trips for us, we chose to use Majectic Travel, a couple of blocks from the hotel on Filelinon (the street that goes to Snytagma Square). We saved $100 on the trip to Delphi for 3 adults and $100 on the one day cruise to the islands, from the hotel rate. Each trip was 75 euro/person as opposed to 99/person if booked at the hotel. It was well worth the short pleasant walk as the family Kargadouris who own Majestic Travel spoke excellent English and also helped us secure seat assignments on our return Turkish Airline flights, on air tickets they didn't even sell! Mr. Kargadouris even made a trip to the airport to speak with the ticket counter, as my son is extremely tall and needed an emergency exit row for the leg room. If you go to Majestic, please tell them the "NBA player" sent you. The result was that my son had exit row seats on both the flight from Athens to Istanbul and the very lengthy flight from Istanbul to New York. Thanks again to you, Mr. Kargadouris! As to the price of the day trips, the next best price we found was 79 euro/person at an agency in the Monastiraki area, so they really did offer the best price for these trips.

Check out was quick and easy, with no surprises. I highly recommend this hotel for its location, understated elegance, amenities and professional staff. As to the price, I was able to use frequent flier miles to pay for my stay. Since it is almost impossible to use your miles for actual airline travel, this is an excellent option worth looking into. The Electra Palace will be my choice for any future stays in Athens. It was the foundation that made our entire trip memorable and successful.

Room Tip: We needed three twin beds so our room options were somewhat limited. Our room on the second floor f...

The hotel is very nice, rooms are clean and cosy, but the roof top terrace is the feature that makes the hotel more than average. It has a one of a kind view overlooking Athens and the Acropolis and a nice pool at the roof top. Room for improvement is the service, which is not five star and friendliness of the staff is very random. At breakfast you have the feeling that guest are not really welcomed but bothering the waiters. Fresh fruit selection at breakfast is poor, otherwise there is a nice offer, though the eggs need to be freshly made in a five star hotel and are not to be offered cold in a Bain Marie. All in all the best hotel in the Plaka in Athens and when we return to Athens we will choose this hotel again. Great and central location.

great hotel with an excellent view and service, we will come back, plaka area is worth to visit several times, our girl 11 years old spent one hour every afternoon in the Indoor pool, lots of close restaurants, a tip, go to those that are recommended in the guide books, i.e avoid all the Tourist places serving low quality dishes.

Can't say enough positive - the hotel is perfectly located, steps off Plaka - and minutes walk to Syntagma Square. The hotel is full service and offers restaurant, lovely patio garden area for dining - and fantastic restaurant with view of Acropolis - not to be missed! Roof top terrace and pool are such a treat! Would highly recommend this hotel. Also, when booking, book the Acropolis view room - well worth it!!!

Room Tip: I would highly recommend upgrading and paying for the Acropolis view, well worth it!!
