“Great location, friendly service, unattractive rooms”
Reviewed 19 August 2010

Right in the nicest part of Athens, this hotel is a gem. While the room decor is uninspiring, the service makes up for it. We had booked a single room by mistake (over the internet) and when we arrived the hotel was full. They offered to phone other hotels for us. As the room had a queen size bed we decided to stay as it was for only one night. Within minutes of getting to our room, housekeeping staff arrived with extra towels, slippers and bathrobe. We had drinks from the minibar and upon checking out I told them and also said they should charge us for the extra breakfast as we were two guests. To our surprise, they said the minibar items are complimentary because of our inconvenience. So was the buffet breakfast, which by the way was extremely satisfying (I don't know why one reviewer commented negatively as to it being 'European'; it had everything including eggs Benedict!) A lovely shady courtyard was great to take an early breakfast. You didn't know you were in this bustling city, it was so tranquil. Also noteworthy is the terrace restaurant. Fabulous food, including lobster and other fresh seafood, great wine selection and a view to die for - the Acropolis in the evening sun and later all lit up after dark. In all, a great stay. I can put up with rooms that may lack the modern decor of luxury hotels, because this hotel knows how to make guests comfortable.

We had a suite on a top floor overlooking the Acropolis. Amazing view! Very comfortable room with a large sitting area and ample bathroom. We were greeted with a complimentary wine, cheese and fruit basket. The beds are not as comfy as an American chain but on par with European standards. The breakfast buffet was plentiful but leaned more toward the European tastes.

The location is fantastic. Close to everything. A short walk to the tomb of the unknown and steps away from the Acropolis.

Pros : Situation, infrastructure
Cons : Service !!!, noise (room's windows are bad sound-proofing and the street is near the hotel) and the swimming-pool (the deck one) was, during our stay, dirty.

Conclusion : Too expensive !

We stayed here one night when we had to leave Santorini a day early to avoid the scheduled air traffic controller strike. They were very accommodating and managed to come up with 8 rooms with very little notice. We got in very late and our only complaint was the very surly person who answered the room service number and hung up on us. Aside from that the views are wonderful and we'd stay here again.

This hotel has a great location (although at first glance it doesn't appear to be the case.) The street is narrow, but the Plaka is only one block away and the Acropolis is about a 15 minute walk. The lobby is grand, but the rest of the hotel is not. Our room was spacious, but the carpet and bedding were showing their age. The mattress was VERY hard and the pillows were flat. We didn't get very good sleep the 2 nights we were there. Housekeeping was average. Wifi didn't work in our room so we had to go to the lobby for it to work--but at least it was free. The breakfast buffet had a large selection, but food was only so-so. Wanted to eat in rooftop restaurant, but it was not air conditioned and with tempeatures in the high 90's, it didn't seem like a good option. Next time we will probably try another hotel.

This is a nice hotel in a very convenient location.
Yet some problems:
As mentioned in many reports, rooms smell smoke, even after 3 days stay.
At breakfast there is a nice machine which produces orange juice. Horror, there are worms (white, 5-10mm for those who may know what it is) who happily swim in it! I call the waiter who takes the glass without any comment, that's all...
No apology, no attempt to let us think that they will adress this problem...
After that a table next to us receives water from above (it is outside). The guy there seems to be very angry, asks the waiter (the same). He laughs and says that it is the swimming pool which is on the roof. Again no apologies, the guy left looking very unsatisfied.
So overall very nice hotel yet inapropriate service.
