“ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE EXPERIENCE”
Reviewed 15 December 2013

We stayed a weekend. We have used our car, it was easy to reach the hotel. The next building is a parking which isn't expensive for the hotel's customers (9€/d). The hotel itself can be proud for the 4 stars it has. Pleasant lobby and bar, rooms warm and very well equipped, mini bar full, bathroom very clean. Breakfast excellent as quantity and quality, you can have also dinner and lunch in a very good price. What has to be improved is the rooms sound isolation
The area itself is very good:Quiet, not dangerous, many restaurants and bistrots. Nearby is the Music Building (Megaro Mousikis) and the metro station with the same name.

A fluke versus a trend...A repeat customer is the positive proof of sustained excellence in Greek Hospitality...They did it again at the Golden Age hotel.

Excellent quiet location in an aerated green area of the city centre , well illuminated and receiving plenty of sunshine, a beautiful building in an examplary condition, this is a magnificent place, not just for its spotless premisces where one could eat on the floor, but also for an impeccable staff, role model of all other hotels personel worldwide.

Paying attention to details and settling for nothing less than perfection in all areas...reception, concierge, food and beverage, housekeeping, management at all levels...the list is long.

A personalized attention from a well trained staff who shows a genuine concern for the guest's well being...They read your mind at the Golden Age !...Their smile comes from their heart.

The splendour of Athens is also immortalized at the Golden Age hotel.

Congratulations to all and Happy Holiday Season ! Captain Ray.

The best part of our stay in this luxury hotel was the food. While the breakfast was average, the dinner in the small restaurant was fantastic. While the menu was small (6 main courses, a few pasta dishes, a few salads), the food was among some of the best I've had, and quite different too - the chicken breast stuffed with ricotta and pine nuts served in an orange sauce gained points just for originality, and that fillet steak was without doubt the best I've ever tasted. And the prices were great - around 14 - 16 euros for most mains and 20 for steak, which was amazing value given the quality. The wine list again was small, but the two local roses they had were both delicious, so much so we drank the whole supply! The bar area was small (two tables in the corner) but to be honest, it was never busy, so this wasn't a problem. Staff were very friendly and accommodating of changes or substitutions we requested to the meals which were made without question.

Elsewhere, the room was large and comfortable, with a cosy balcony with table and chairs. Plenty of storage, and a nice big bathroom with a good selection of toiletries. The view wasn't great, because to be fair this isn't in a very scenic or central part of Athens, but was close to where we were doing business. Wifi in the rooms was only free for the first two hours of our stay, but was free 24 hours in the lobby, which had comfortable sofas and a piano (though no one playing). The staff on reception were also friendly and very helpful when we had questions about travel and exploring the local area.

Overall, a very enjoyable stay in a comfortable hotel with good amenities.

No question, Golden Age is the best family hotel I've stayed in all over Europe (over many years and all of the countries). We have teens and travel a lot, and the family room here is the best. Two separate rooms, connected by a small hallway with a bathroom in the middle. Still plenty of storage. WiFi is free for the slower connection, and you pay for faster. I found the slower one to be fine for our purposes (planning the next day and looking up restaurants on Trip Advisor!). If you want the faster speeds for business, the cost was minimal. The breakfast is OUTSTANDING and the best I've stayed in hotels that were not 5-star. The hot choices were different all three mornings that we ate. The other items are fresh, and the coffee was very good, and there were 3-4 waiters constantly buzzing around to make sure all was in order.

The location is great--right on the blue line from the airport (5 min walk to the hotel), and then that line continues on into downtown. Get off at Monastiriki for the restaurants and shopping (or a walk to the Agora or Acropolis) or change to the red line and one stop to the Acropolis & Museum area. The staff was excellent, attentive, and helpful. The only complaint, and some mentioned it below, would be the walls. They are not totally soundproof, so hope that you have good neighbors.

Golden Age is well-deserving of its 4-star rating overall. A comfortable, clean stay, attentive staff, a great breakfast, free internet, good location, and a SUPERB value for the money.

good value for money, average breakfast, walking distance proximity to public transportation (metro), clean nice rooms with very practical balconies for smokers, free wi-fi (low bandwidth, though). Excellent service from the staff.

Room Tip: nothing in particular
