“If you are looking for a room that resembles a Hostel stay here”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

My husband and I originally booked a two night stay here and as soon as we entered the room I started crying! The room was completely outdated and it was dirty. The beds were hard as a rock and the blankets had holes in them. We immediately went out searching for a new hotel to stay in. We returned a couple of hours later and checked out. This hotel should be called a hostel because that is exactly what it is. Unfortunately we booked this way in advance so we could not get our money back, but we had no problem spending an additional $600 to stay in a better hotel.

49 Pictures and 149 Reviews...yet NO ONE takes a picture of the bathtub contraption?

Everything seemed great at first...easy location to Syntagma Square's metro station, near the touristy areas, large room, mini balcony, fridge, decent breakfast, smoking room that wasn't too smoky(thats Athens)...then the comes the BATHTUB!

I'm not sure what this thing was, my wife and I had never seen anything like that. A small tub with a built-in chair, no walls or curtain, and a handheld shower head. It was like I was a baby again! Maybe this was a bathroom designed for elderly and handicapped persons? See the photo I added, should be photo #50.

Regardless, I'm still giving this a 4/5 because overall it was nice room and hotel, despite the awkward bathing situation.

Note: if you're coming in at night, the neighborhood may look creepy and dangerous, but its not. There's nearby cafes and bars still packed at midnight and on. Its just Athens.

Room Tip: Noisy bar in front, ask for a room in the back if possible

We've stayed at this hotel several times. Convenient central location for metro links and exploring" ancient " Athens. Very friendly staff. Good breakfast. Comfortable rooms but next year we'll be asking for a room at the back of the building away from the throbbing music of the nearby bar which went on to the early hours of the morning......or maybe earplugs?

Room Tip: Front rooms are noisy

Stayed here en route to Sifnos, it is 5 mins from Syntagma and less than 10 to Monistiraki when travelling to Piraeus to catch a midmorning or later ferry. Breakfast was fine and the room we had, on the front, was enormous, almost a suite (family room I guess). Unfortunately there is a very noisy bar across the road - it closes at midnight - so be aware if you are an early bedder.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back are probably exempted from the music from the bar across the road.

I can't really say how my stay at Hotel Achilleas was because I really didn't stay there!!
After traveling for almost 24 hours I finally arrive at my destination: the Hotel Achilleas where I paid in advance for my three night stay. When to my surprise I am informed that the hotel is overbooked and they are sending me to another hotel [from the same group] a couple of blocks away. Couple of blocks turned out to be over 10 blocks away in a very sketchy neighborhood where nearly every taxi cursed to pick me up. Do not book this hotel or you might end up like me!!

I was upgraded from a single room at the sister hotel to a double room with an acropolis view due to the inconvenience of being shuffled from one hotel to the next so i have no complaints about the price. The hotel paid for the cab between hotels.
Nice clean room, comfortable. Nicely kept bathroom with a bath I was tempted to use.
Within walking distance from everything you could wish to see or do in Athens. Situated next to a yoga centre. Breakfast was also quite substantial.
The main negative was that I was on the 4th floor near the rooftop garden and was kept up by chairs grating quite loudly across the concrete roof.
Also whilst the hotel is near some lovely taverns the area is not the safest or best for a single female traveller to be walking alone around at night, the local tavern owners will keep an eye on you though if you make friends with them.
